These are good things. Keep 'em.

OU's edge lies in their defense. An amazing marriage of power and speed. Their linebackers are faster than some teams' receivers and will be very handy in cutting off the short/intermediate passing game or stopping rushes from going for more than medium gains. The secondary can get blazed, but the seven in the box by themselves could probably fare better than most teams' entire eleven men. USC may have to end up relying on the big play, which is a huge mistake (even though they're capable of it, big plays I mean). A real national championship team can be consistent in every phase of the game and win in a methodical manner to assert their own superiority and wear down the other team's morale and stamina. Any attempts to wear down either side won't work, as each side of the ball is covered with tremendous athleticism (although I feel USC is more of a pure athlete team while OU is a pure football team, if that makes any sense). OU could also torch the secondary of USC, which has improved since last year (and a big reason I consider them a real #1 this year) but still might not be able to match the Sooner passing game. Then again, to say there's a weak link on either team is relative.

I considered that, but there are basement dwellers in the others too.

No, I don't mean the game show. I mean they had actual Scrabble competitions on ESPN and ESPN2. With commentators.
-
Don't they feel goofy putting that stuff on and taking it off? It just looks awkward to have a T-shirt over a dress shirt. Anyways, The New Amsterdams are the only band I listen to that falls squarely in the Emo category. But I think they're really good, so I don't like to think about the Emo part. My new name for similar music is "pussy white boy shit."

I forgot to mention that I really liked Maven on commentary. A part of his heel schtick should be to have ludicrously exaggerated numbers for everything. When he said "I had 67 of my closest friends over, and we watched, on my massive 70 inch flatscreen TV, footage from two weeks ago about 16 or 18 times," I about died.

Now the only people in this thread are Loss and myself. Man, it's going to be awkward whenever we see each other now.

... the hell? SEC 6th?!?!

No one mentioned the televised Scrabble. Man.

For a period in 2001-2003 I felt like I was watching just out of habit. I'd say I turned the corner and started really enjoying it again in the summer of 2003. These days I'm pretty excited about Raw each week, but still can't get very interested in Smackdown. Raw's been especially entertaining since January of last year, I think.

Yeah, last year was okay because it vindicated what people had been saying except the voters (LSU v. USC in the title game). Is it just me, or does USC just look like a college team? The colors and uniform style just scream it, to me. As the opposite, Miami(FL) looks like a professional team 'cept the exposed legs on the uniforms. Speaking of Miami, I'm glad they don't play the Orange Bowl in the actual Orange Bowl anymore. I can't STAND stadiums that are open on one end like that.

So nice he had to say it thrice. Why can't multiple posts ever be ones you'd want to see more than once?

Oh, I'll still recognize the winner of tonight's game as a national champion (although the "they were here last year so they deserve it" logic is flawed since it says that a team's previous season means jacknanny in relation to a current season), but more like an personal version of what happened last year I'll end up calling Auburn the co-champs whenever I talk about it with people. It's been really hard to defend the BCS the last two years, but I still stand by it. OU and USC are certainly deserving contenders, but one (arguably two) other was left out. My beef's really with preseason rankings more than anything, to be honest. As I said in the December 31st bowl thread, no polls until the first week of October. They don't start the BCS rankings until mid-October anyway. Letting all the teams go out and play a few games before saying who's 1, 2, 3, and so on is much more prudent than just conjecturing based on recruits and returning players, where, unlike the professional ranks, the rankings are really life or death for a team. As for the game tonight, it is going to have to be awfully good to live up to the hype it's gotten. Blowout snoozefest or heated epic game, it'll be one of the two. I'm still picking USC to win.

Boy, what losers they were. I think you guys are confusing losers with people who aren't as nerdy as we are.
-
Oh yeah, I'm leaving it at that. I'll play nice. Just wanted to put that out there since the #1 talk's in this thread. No SECsault stuff here.

I think last night was the concession that HHH/Orton for Wrestlemania isn't going to work out. Orton might be over huge as reports from house shows and whatnot indicate, but they're doing the right thing by abandoning it. If that's what they're doing, that is. I personally hope so, as I haven't really found Orton entertaining since the Flair feud. Plus Batista's character has shown way more depth and little idiosyncrasies that Orton's one-dimensional "cocky dickhead that acts like a prick to heels instead of faces now" character has never come close to portraying. At least Rock had the ability to get that conversion to work without deflating his gimmick.

Ooh, I can't wait to see this. EDIT: Between IDRM and Coey, I mean.

Ha. It's funny how no one noticed me at all for like 3 years + (counting the old board) and then as soon as I switch to an Ashlee Simpson avatar/sig, all my quality contributions (which, again, no one ever noticed) are disregarded and I'm labeled a fag. On top of that, I'm labeled a fag for having an Ashlee avatar when Kotz has all that Kylie stuff and is infinitely more effeminate than I am. Plus we have actual homosexuals on this board. I must also note that those guys (I'm thinking of Kotz and Loss in particular) are amongst my favorite posters, so please don't think that my comments are meant to be derogatory. P.S. I'm not a feline. Whoawhoawhoa.

4 wins against eventual 9-win teams. 1 game decided by seven or less. The least points allowed by any team in the nation. Went undefeated in the toughest conference in all of football. Virginia Tech just handed them the Sugar Bowl? I'm sure that driving three times into the #9 team's red zone can be called handing them the game, including one that started on their own one yard line. Virginia Tech didn't hand them shit, they went into what I'd call a calm panic mode. They're no slouches and you can't win the ACC by sucking, so they managed to come back as much as they could but the vaunted Beamer-ball special teams play couldn't get ONE onside kick to work out of two that they tried, plus a missed field goal. That's Auburn pressuring a team into fucking up by their play in the rest of the areas game. And the only, ONLY reason that they aren't in that ESPN/USA Today title game tonight is because of preseason rankings.
-
Nor will I, unless one of the teams tonight blows the other one out of the water.
-
I can't ignore that Auburn was five minutes from shutting out the 10-22 9th-ranked ACC Champion that could have been 12-0 coming in without a couple of unfortunate happenings. Unless either USC or OU totally manhandle the other team tomorrow night, Auburn is still my #1 team.

I've never had bloodshit. I feel left out.

I turned my brain off right around the "WHY ARE WE YELLING?" argument and found it pretty damned funny. I think Old School was better though. -
66 posts over a year and four months, and one of them is calling me out on this wee mistake. Wow. It kinda goes without saying that I'd rather see Green Bay win than Shaun Alexander getting killed. The bolded part's the best.
