  1. Who underrates Stephin Merritt?
  2. I have spent the last few months fighting my way through William Gaddis' The Recognitions, an extremely exhausting, almost comically dense novel that, for me, suffers from one very big flaw: it's not good enough to where I want to plow through its 900+ pages as much as possible, but it's not bad enough to where I want to put it down. Especially now, when I only have 200 pages to go. I wish I had my copy on me. A number of times throughout the novel, Gaddis will drop one of his erudite references to describe a perfectly mundane moment. I've highlighted a number of these; later, if I remember, I'll type up some. They go something like "with Otto very much on her mind, Esme reached for a pen and sat down to compose a letter, much like that Queen Heirosyphius, who drove the Moors out of Prussia and made servants out of the Visigoths."
  3. I prefer to think my mother doesn't have feelings.
  4. Just got back from a quick and relatively painless meal at my mom's. She's such a medicore cook. Anyway, she wanted me to stay longer after eating, but for what? Watch the Sunday Afternoon Snooze Block on the Food Network? That's all she and my sister were doing!
  5. I updated the list. B&S is still #1; Neko Case is #2.
  6. I'd read about that but never heard it. Not bad, honestly.
  7. I was thinking the same thing when I was reading this thread and then bam, Edwin posted it.
  8. Boring, and I like some post rock.
  9. Pssh. The pirate is one of my favorites. I'm out of touch on most board-related matters, but I've no doubt Downhome is still one of the worst people ever. I know nothing about AndrewTS, other than his being a name I might've read somewhere before. Bob Barron and I have a special relationship, consisting mostly of tender pm's that I'll never share with the lot of you.

  13. And so it does at track four.
  14. I'm in two songs into Built to Spill's You in Reverse and I really like it. Still, I'm thinking it won't be long before the quality drops off. I hope I'm wrong. fake edit: I have a couple of 2006 albums to add to this thread. Remind me to do it later.
  15. I hate soulseek, but then I'm spoiled by this private ftp I have access to. Everyone should have a special ftp in their lives.

  18. True story: I remembered that thread, but didn't feel like finding it. Why? I knew you would, saving me the trouble.
  19. I live in the same town as No Face Girl and haven't, fortunately, seen her in public. Still, she lives in the darkest recesses of my mind. I fear the day will come, and, when it does, that it'll be at the Wal-Mart down the street from my place.
  20. I like that they put "baby" in quotes.

  22. I actually remember treble changing it once, when I kept doubting the unusually low score he pulled on one of those "How gay are you?" quizzes. His subtitle read "20% gay" for a day or two, before going back to the present one.
