  1. Nigga Please is only good if you judge it as a comedy album; it's ass if you take it any other way, outside of maybe "Got Your Money."
  2. Prince's 3121 starts strong but runs out of the gas in the second half. I'll give it a couple more listens just to make sure. And I'm really liking the new Morrissey. I wasn't expecting to, either.
  3. That high synth in "Black Sweat" is a little irritating. Also, did the Neptunes do this track? If not, it's a passable imitation.
  4. Listening to it right now. The first few tracks—which is all I've heard so far—are nice; a throwback to Sign o' the Times-era stuff. In terms of sound, anyway.
  5. I used to think WL/WH was the best, though I ended up settling for the debut. And weird that that's your favorite song.
  6. I'm gonna be a dork and admit I liked "softcore haterism."
  7. When The Superstar sees this thread, I want him to know I shouted along to the "something in my veins/bloodier than blood" part of "A Shot in the Arm."
  8. Wilco's on the list. I saw them earlier this evening. Great show, though they only played one song from the very fine Summerteeth—"A Shot in the Arm," which was wonderful, since they didn't play that last time I saw them—but they made up for it by playing five songs from my favorite album of theirs, Being There.
  9. Either fastnbulbous skipped it or I glanced over it, but I went and edited the first post to include Papa M's Live from a Shark Cage. LFASC would make my top ten of '99, were I to sit and put together such a list. fake edit: I've done "best of '99" lists in the past, but I probably wouldn't agree with the ranking now even if I could remember what I put on it.
  10. I pulled all the records I liked from the list at http://www.fastnbulbous.com. It's in the order as they appear there, not my own personal ranking. 11. The Czech Republic is anti-fun and good times with bros.

  13. Speaking of Beefheart, I couldn't get his saying "GIMMIE THAT OOOLD TAHM RELIJUUUUN" out of my head the other day. By the time I got home, I was too tired to dig out my copy of Trout Mask Replica. If I ever organized my CDs, that wouldn't have been a problem.
  14. Dissension within the cabal.
  15. And thus concludes my twice-yearly trip to this folder. Thank you and good night.
  16. Hollywood is shallow? What an old fool. That whole essay is as empty-headed and ignorant as the very thing he rails against.
  17. Hey, that 14-minute "Magic Bus" you guys are talking about is actually "My Generation"—a song I like in its original 3:21 form, but have little desire to hear extended almost five times its original length.
  18. I always liked "The Dope Show" because it's a pretty convincing T. Rex knockoff.
  19. He sounded rougher on The Heart of Saturday Night than he did on Closing Time, but it was nothing compared to the leap from nasally crooner to Cookie Monster from THOSN to Nighthawks at the Diner. That it's so obv. an affection on NATD is a big part why that one's always been my least favorite Waits (alongside The Black Rider, though I dislike that one for different reasons).
  20. Like welders get stock options.
  21. I'm feeling pretty spry for someone in their early 40s, all things considered.
  22. I don't understand this folder anymore. It's like I'm starting to feel my age.
