I really liked my David Schwimmer gimmick much more than Whiskers. The former was subtle and clever; the latter was a bunch of dumb cat pictures. How was Schwimmer clever? You gave me posts to work from, like the following:

Tool is no more prog than Mars Volta. And fuck Mars Volta. In additon to the crimes Edwin listed, Cedric Bixler sings like the dude from Air Supply. That said, prog is one of the most joyless, relentlessly masturbatory genres of music in existence. There are exceptions, naturally, but I can do without it on the whole.

I've been summoned five (5) times in the last three years. That I'm a student got me out of it everytime.

Trout Mask Replica is a noisy, chaotic, clanging, gorgeous mess. Herky-jerky rhythms and wildly atonal guitars chug away as Beefheart howls surreal, non-sequiter lyrics like an old bluesman. It may take awhile for it all to sink in--it's 28 songs and 78 minute running time give you a lot to digest--but it's worth it. Or you may just want to throw your stereo out the window. It's been known to provoke such a reaction.

Dylan's influence is felt more in spirit than in any specific thing. As far as music from the 60s goes, the Beatles and the Velvet Underground were, far and away, the most influential bands.
