  1. Another 100 pages down and I'm really starting to dislike this book.
  2. That's what it's supposed to mean. I've never heard any of these terms used in the MTS3k context outside of the show itself; I assume they were either now outdated mid-western slang or in-jokes among the staff. Maybe both.
  3. The closest I've come to hearing any of those in real life is "batch"; even then, it was meant to convey semen, which, well, comes out of something located in the crotch region.
  4. I've been doing that, yeah.
  5. I couldn't sleep at all last night. I should probably just drink a soda, huh.
  6. I've had a headache for the past three days; I haven't had any caffeine in four.
  7. I've been in a grouchy mood lately (I've taken to giving up caffeine PLUS I've been having women troubles) so it's manifesting itself here. That said, none of those threads need to be pinned. Gene's thread served its purpose for awhile, but that's long since passed; the "smarkipedia" (ohmygod I actually typed it) thread is arguable, though I'm not the one to take up the pro- side. As Czech already said, any remaining thread, if popular enough, will remain near the top. Plus, I don't like how it ruins the front page's feng shui.
  8. She continues to be as mild and pleasant as she was on her first album. That's isn't a bad thing, but, also like her first album, nothing here sticks. It's fine background music and little more than that.
  9. About 130 pages into this. Very spotty in parts—the detective story cliches are grating, though I suppose Chabon's previous book, the novella The Final Solution, should have prepared me for this (even still, I was hoping he'd gotten the genre fixation out of his system with that particular exercise; I guess not)—but there's enough good stuff here, including Chabon's graceful prose and fine wit, to keep me reading. A bit of letdown, though, considering this is his first "proper" (i.e. non-short story/mystery novella/children's book) follow-up to the great The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay, published seven years earlier.
  10. Alfonso Ribeiro was a comic genius.
  11. Why not pin every goddamn stupid thread on the first page.
  12. What should he have done? Catch a bus to your town and beat you up?
  13. Something I read once said that Cohen has the potential to be this generation's Peter Sellers, which I can see. The guy can immerse himself into a character the way few actors can. I'd like to see Cohen branch out like this. However, I have little-to-no interest in seeing a movie about Mercury.
  14. That is what happens when gary floyd decides not to rewrite someone else's post as his contribution to the thread.
  15. Someone put a bullet in that account's head already.
  16. I was let down when I finally saw that; I was expecting a lot more bloodshed. I did like how, at the end of it, Mailer says, almost proudly, "Now that's an actor for you!"
  17. Bump. I'm currently reading The Deer Park, by Norman Mailer. I think he's gonna be the next author I get on a really big kick of. Next in line is the new Michael Chabon novel, The Yiddish Policemen's Union, which I picked up the other day. Can't wait to start.
  18. http://www.forums.spinner.com/2007/05/01/i...-is-bi-coastal/ Which I found thanks to Pitchforkmedia. About four years ago, I had my picture taken with Paul Banks in an Orlando record store. He was a very nice man.
  19. I take back what I said about not doing them any favors. A little tweaking and Interpol could be the next Killers.
  20. Obvious aside, that's an awful title. The song itself? Eh, pretty by the numbers for these guys, which doesn't give me much hope for the new album. The biggest difference from their norm is this song's emphasis on the guitar rather than the rhythm section; I don't think that's a great direction for this band, as their best material is usually bass-and-drum centered. (I think the only Interpol track where the guitar riff absolutely makes the song is "PDA.") The production's a bit crunchier, too, more processed than anything from their first two albums, a sound which may not do them any favors, either. Chalk that up to being on a major label now.
  21. Add an "everyone on the previous page who started talking about wrestling" option.
  22. razazteca is a reminder of how this board's old guard used to be tolerant of any feeble-minded shut-in, as long as he wasn't actively trolling. He makes a great cautionary tale; his presence will keep the TSM denizens from getting soft again.
  23. You can't seriously think this, right? Didn't you see banky's post earlier in the thread? People who like Joy Division are incapable of free will. No one really likes it.
  24. My post on the first page was not meant in jest or to be snide; al's behavior indicates he's still hung up on this girl, so he lashes out at the dumbass she's currently seeing. We've all been there, so it's understandable behavior, but let's not pretend those morons (the ex-gf and the new guy) deserve his abuse. The girl, in particular, has gotten on with her life; al appears to have not.
