"Lay it Down Clown" and "Shooting Dirty Pool" are as every bit juvenile as the moments of lower humor on Let it Be. Maybe there aren't as many dick jokes.

A friend of mine recently experienced something which proved what you said isn't necessarily true.

I have a crush on PLAGIARISM! Don't tell him!

Jon, you were fat once. Surely you know the pleasures of banging zaftig ladies.

Ha, I actually went on a business-related trip to NYC when I worked in college radio, but that slipped my mind. This current job is a Real Job, so I count this one.

I went on my first ever business trip! I think this means I'm an adult now.

Speaking of the Modern Lovers, this record store I visited while I was away had the debut on vinyl. I would've picked it up, but was surprised to learn that only nine of the 12 songs I'm familiar with—thanks to my long ago pirated copy—were on the original release. I didn't know that. Anyway, I passed, but it's still a pretty great album.

What a horrible board.
-
After I accepted that not all the songs were going to be pure jangle like "I Will Dare," my favorite became Let it Be.
-
Just spent the last five days in another city/state and found this board wasn't high on my list of Things to Do.
-
Yet the disco breakdown at the end of "Station to Station" is the best part.

I'm listening to Antics for the first time in who knows how long. I'm on "Take You on a Cruise" right now, bored by everything I've heard thus far save "Evil." Whether I'm just not in the mood for this right now, or I no longer like it as I once did, remains to be seen. Truthfully, it'll end up being the latter. Oh hey, "Slow Hands" is on. I still enjoy this song lots.

Five Cover Songs That Arguably Improved on the Original, Though My Saying So is Not to Slight the Original: 1. The Circle Jerks - I Wanna Destroy You (original: The Soft Boys) 2. Pixies - Head On (original: The Jesus & Mary Chain) 3. Galaxie 500 - Ceremony (original: New Order [or Joy Division, if you want to be a pedant]) 4. Tindersticks - Here (original: Pavement) 5. TV on the Radio - Mr. Grieves (original: Pixies) I've found a number of people agree with me re #1, which was a pleasant surprise, given the overall inconsequentiality of later period Circle Jerks. #2 is more or less a given, though JAMC's is a good song in its own right. #s 3-5 have gotten me a number of hairy eyeballs and outright scorn, but I stand by them.

I should note that my list was more "of the moment," with the Velvet Underground and Mercury Rev songs being the only mainstays. "Street Hassle" and "Marquee Moon" are excellent choices; Can has some great ones, too, though I'd rank "You Doo Right," "Mother Sky," "Halleluhwah" and "Bel Air" above "Peking O."

Five Favorite Songs to Exceed Ten Minutes in Length, Not Counting Either Jazz or Tracks from Live Albums: Mercury Rev - Meth of a Rockette's Kick The Velvet Underground - Sister Ray Don Caballero - please tokio, please THIS IS TOKIO Neu! - Hallogallo Yo La Tengo - The Story of Yo La Tengo

Three John Barth books—The Sot-Weed Factor, Giles-Goat Boy and Chimera (specifically the "Perseid" section)—are evidence that he's the only writer I've come across who can write truly hilarious, lol-worthy rape scenes. You think I could get a course out of this? I'll call it "Screamingly Funny Rape Scenes in the Fiction of John Barth." To counter the mirthfulness, I'll also teach Barth's Sabbatical, which features a very disturbing, particularly unfunny rape scene.

I only ever took two classes that concentrated exclusively on pre-20th century lit; one focused on American writers, the other class was for British ones. Austen never came up in the former for obvious reasons; the professor for the latter simply did not assign her. And good deal on getting to read Pale Fire. Awesome book, though most of your class will hate it.

I love it. Which is exciting, because I rarely feel that strongly about newish bands.

Last five albums I listened to: The Delgados - The Complete BBC Peel Sessions (two discs, but I'll count them as one here) Deerhunter - Cryptograms D'Angelo - Brown Sugar The Futureheads- s/t Peter Tosh - Legalize It

Joe Walsh also played on the James Gang's "Funk #49," which is also a good song.

Count me in as another fan who also saw it when it came out. And yeah, Jennifer Lopez pre-music career was a good actress.

Why is no one else saying this, too?

I appreciate the intent, but the execution was way off on this one.
