  1. But if he was to play first base full time, he would've done marginally more fielding as a first baseman than a designated hitter, since it's just not a demanding position to field, compared to catcher, center field, or shortshop. I'm not saying that this means no first baseman should go to the Hall, that's ludicrous. I'm saying that with DHs that would in all likelihood be first basemen in the National League, you can't really get on them for a lack of fielding, since it's such a secondary part of the job.
  2. Yeah, I'm just being a Partisan HackĀ® and calling the Democrats a bunch of socialists. Someone has to! I'm like the last conservative standing.
  3. Daschle, because he needs something to do? He's a failed Senator. He ain't shit. Nobody likes him. He sucked as the floor leader so badly that he was voted out of office and replaced by a Republican.
  4. It'd be remarkable if they did. I wonder how they'll do in September, traditionally their big month.
  5. I feel that he's in. If Edgar Martinez gets in, Frank Thomas is definitely in. And besides, without the DH, he's a first baseman, so it's not as if he would have been terribly active as a fielder anyway.
  6. Getting rid of Manny is a horrible idea for Boston.
  7. Butkus. Put a quarter in the jar.
  8. Barack Obama Rising Star! Barack Obama Rising Star! Barack Obama Rising Star! Barack Obama Rising Star! Barack Obama Rising Star! Barack Obama Rising Star! Barack Obama Rising Star! Barack Obama Rising Star! Barack Obama Rising Star! Barack Obama Rising Star! Yeah we look to be just as fucked in 08 as 04, because the Republican Party has abandoned small government and civil liberties for statism and "homeland security." Then you have the Democrats, who have no ideas whatsoever and sound ridiculous whenever they open their mouths, because everything is just BUSH IS HITLER BAD BAD BAD! 2008 will be the first presidential election I can vote in (I missed 04 by a month), and nothing the Republicans do to fuck up is going to be enough to make me vote Democratic. Please, GOP, let the minimal government crowd take the party back from the neoconservatives, because neoconservatism vs. socialism is a dreadful matchup.
  9. ...so, that said, quite a schedule of games today! Baltimore tries to keep their heads above water against the White Sox, Cubs try to stockpile (what should be) easy wins with game 3 against Arizona, Marlins try to gain ground in the wild card against the slumping Nats, and the Mets try to cool off the red-hot Astros. Yes, what a day! Now let's all be positive for two hours.
  10. Ah. You see, I was imagining like the end of Nights In White Satin, but with Seth Putnam's lyrics.
  11. Is there a band that can be accurately described as a cross between the Moody Blues and Anal Cunt?
  12. Can somebody remind me what the original instance of "ripping the flesh off tit" was? EDIT: Oh yeah, it was Banders Kennany trying to describe that one mixer
  13. ...off tit. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Slam dunk.
  14. Yeah the Thomas & Mack Center is hosting an All-Star Game. I assume that having given up on getting the Knicks to the Finals, getting a team in Vegas is David Stern's new "I'll do it or die trying" crusade.
  15. Michael: "Get the Seaward out of here." Lucille: "I'll leave when I'm good and ready." "Don't come asking for a handout, because I run a tight ship." "There's a pool table over there." "...it's a gaming ship."
  16. Anyway, more big games coming up for the Cubs: two more must-wins against Arizona, then a chance to really make a splash in the wild card race against Philadelphia and New York. I think Houston is soon to follow, so the pressure is really on here. It'll be interesting to see how Wood pans out as a reliever for the rest of the year. I'm hoping he can be the solution to the bullpen woes, give us a good inning or two most days to spare us from the instability of Michael Wuertz and the litany of guys that just seem to lapse between the majors and Iowa. It looks like Rich Hill is going to get the nod as the #5 starter, which I'm still iffy about. I'd really prefer that Glendon Rusch was moved back to the rotation, since that's where he really seemed to excel. He's been all over the place since Dusty demoted him. EDIT: Oh I totally forgot that Scott Williamson is coming back from surgery soon. That might help our middle relief become more stable than the Italian government. Let's hope!
  17. AHHHHH ALL I WAS TRYING TO SAY IS NOBODY GAVE A SHIT ABOUT ASTROS-CARDINALS BECAUSE EVERYONE WAS WATCHING YANKEES-RED SOX AAHHHHH
  18. This was reported in the scientific journal Duh.
  19. Hm. He's in his eleventh season of Major League service, and his seventh with San Diego. Maybe I'm wrong
  20. They say Nevin can't block a Rangers trade because it's not in his no-trade clause, but can't he block it with the 10/5 rule? Not like it matters; he might as well just go with it since Kevin Towers is dead-set on running the poor guy out of town.
  21. I was joking, because nobody watched the NLCS.
  22. Annie Waits should be on the Ben Folds one. Love that song. Also, I don't like Greatest Hits albums.
  23. What was the NLCS last year?
  24. The Cubs. Why do they do this to me. Good win, though.
