Where did this come from anyways? In Canada the stereotypical Englishman is drunk and violent. Sort of like a Scotsman without the kilt.
I think it must just have to do with discrepancies in American and Canadian cultures, as well as us really not knowing what Britain is about. Most Americans, when asked about the English, will associate Shakespeare, castles, London, and the royal family. Oh and Austin Powers. We think the British are superior, but we resent it, so we mock them with our stereotypical English butlers. I think the Canadians have more of a British influence on their culture and can make a more accurate stereotype (?) than we can.
