    CTDWAT: TNA Edition

There's the smart way of working the 'net, which TNA actually has done before, and then there's the dumb (Russo) way. Kaz is a guy I want to like. I really, really do. He's talented in the ring, he's got a great look, and he can at least have an entertaining match with just about anybody you put him in the ring with, and a downright very good/great one with a capable opponent (read: Chris Sabin or AJ Styles, who he seems to have the best chemistry with in TNA). It's just...there's something about him that makes me not care. I'm not sure if it's his personality, or just a complete lack of direction, but there's some reason I don't particularly care for him.

I think the perfect example of that theory (psychology throughout matches as opposed to just one match) is the ever-going Tajiri/Crazy/Guido series. By the end of ECW, it was all mixed up in tag warfare, but it resulted in much more hardcore brawling than pure wrestling, mostly because they knew each other inside and out, so frustration began setting in and they would begin pulling out ALL of the stops.

The Stretcher Match blowoff is the best in the series that I've seen, IMO. It builds off of RVD targeting Sabu's neck at A Matter of Respect, and adds in the broken ring match with both men being taken out on stretchers for a short while before Sabu makes his escape to get the win. Wow...a series of 4 matches, with the finishes each having something to do with an earlier match? Isn't...isn't that...PSYCHOLOGY?!

    Desert Island Draft: Movie Edition

Brick - Rian Johnson (2005) Joseph Gordon-Levitt's announcement that he can actually act after years wasted on 3rd Rock From The Sun and teen-oriented flicks like Halloween H20 and 10 Things I Hate About You, and a great modern update on classic film noirs. The pacing is deliberately slow early on, the characters intentionally dry at first glance, but once you get further into the movie...it all starts to unravel, and little things you thought were maybe just one-liner's are expanded upon.

What was the very last thing you purchased?

Bud Light is even worse, Budweiser gives me a bad aftertaste, I hate the "full" beers like Guinness and Sam Adams and the like, never cared for LaBatt, the aftertaste of IPA's makes me want to puke, and they don't sell Yeungling up here. I didn't want to get drop-down hammered, so I chose beer over my preferred Jagermeister, though my girl did get a nice fifth of the Doctor menthol mint that we all (me, her, my band) demolished in the span of a couple hours, and I had one of her Sparks.

Things that Amuse or Please You

I've tried. I'm sick of people staring at us, because it makes me feel emasculated, which just leads to me hitting her more. I don't want to kill this one.

Things that Amuse or Please You

When me and my girl rent movies, and the ones she picked suck and the ones I picked are good. This amuses me in an entirely spiteful manner.

You know when women get all pissed off after you do some shit like piss in their coffee or cheat on her with her best friend, you know, trivial shit, and then they're ready to kick your ass? And then you remember, "I'm a man, and this is a woman. Threatening me. With punches. I'm twice her weight." Funny how that works. I tend to let them punch/kick me anyways. They end up hurting themselves more in the process, because I'll either move and they'll hit something around me, or I'll just block quick and they'll get hurt. Has never failed me in the 10 years or so that I've been pissing females off.

2 bottles of blue Gatorade Frost, and a 12-pack of Coors Light.

    The Dark Knight

I'd say save Bane until Nolan and crew decide to end the franchise. Base the entire last movie on Knightfall, with the introduction of Jean-Luc in the one before it, Bane destroying Batman in the first half hour of Knightfall, and the rest of the movie being Jean-Luc as Batman as Bruce recouperates, with the last 20 minutes or so dedicated to Bruce and Jean-Luc battling it out. Throw Bruce saying something to him that Dent said ("you either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain"), and we got a tie-in to the other flicks.

    The Mike Levy Incident

That Tank guy...wow. I'm glad he's making real money. Forcefully beating the shit out of somebody, and then getting mad that they're not over-selling when they're trying to get away from you so they CAN sell? And then, getting hit with a move that EVERYBODY would sell as death and standing right back up? Jesus, man...this guy is a professional. Future WWE champion. Short temper, low level of actual talent...man, I hope he makes it out of IWA-MS and onto my TV every Monday night.

    WarGames

Best parts of Fall Brawl '98: That awesome Raven/Saturn match, which just stole the fucking show. Hey, Raven stealing the show on a WCW PPV in 1998... Roddy Piper's face when making his entrance during WarGames. THAT is why I will watch that match again sometime.

Would that be the Stretcher Match, the Respect match, or just a singles? Because the Stretcher Match is a thing of spotfest beauty, man. In defense of Sabu: The entire gimmick was that he never quit, and so long as he could get to his feet he would fight you. His sloppy style fit his entire gimmick, which is why I dig it. It's the same way that RVD's overly flashy "I'll do a cartwheel AND a spin before just hitting you with a fucking crossbody or a legdrop" style of ringwork fit the character of an arrogant prick, which is why I dig that. If Sabu was meant to be the most animalistic, brutal, caution-to-the-wind wrestler to ever exist (which is what ECW promoted him as), then would it make sense for him to wrestle more like Ricky Steamboat with a couple of highspots and mostly matwork? No, of course it wouldn't. It makes sense that he'd continue the attack for as long as he physically could.

    Guys who you KNEW sucked

I always disliked all the members of the DOA (though I liked Chainz, AKA Brian Lee, the most, and Crush/Brian Adams the least), hated Los Boricuas, and thought that the only halfway decent people in the Nation were Rock and D'Lo (I'm not counting the month or two that Owen was in there). Never cared for Glacier or Ernest Miller (but I loved Glacier's entrance, and Miller's "somebody call my momma" routine was entertaining, as was when he was WCW commish in late '00), and I always thought that Hugh Morrus could have been a better character for somebody more talented.

    News You Can (barely) Use

So sad...go from being in the most well-regarded tag team on the US scene to being told you don't even deserve a jobbing position...

    Armchair Bookers:What if...

Nothing would change, but the product would have had much higher quality wrestling, and considering, ring-wise, it was already the best overall in the States at the time, that doesn't say much. Here's the fatal flaw: Heyman was already starting to bounce checks by then, which is why Douglas left in '99, Axl in '99, Bam Bam in '99, Awesome in '00, and Storm in '00. So seeing as how it was known that Heyman was bouncing checks, I don't think the Radicalz would have gone back to ECW in the first place.

Things that Amuse or Please You

Me, Rob (Excyde singer), and Eric (drummer) running around the band studios, looking for people practicing in their rooms, with a foam skull on a wooden stick made to look like a vertebrae (a cheap Halloween decoration) to stick into their doorway to weird them out, only to find nobody else practicing at the time but us. It sounds lame as fuck, but hot damn was it funny at the time.

    The Concert Thread

...are you saying moshing to Bad Religion is undeserved? I'd say moshing really started going downhill when "heavy" music became popular in the late 90's/early 00's. There's a lot of bands these days who get nasty moshpits, but then better and heavier ones get next to nothing. Seeing people go crazy for Lamb of God but stay silent for Mastodon at Unholy Alliance '06 made me shed a silent tear, as did having to START a moshpit at a show my band played during Bangladesh's set (Bangladesh is a Texas metalcore band who sound very similar to Unearth and Bury Your Dead; you might not like them, but you can't deny that they'd be great for pits). It just seems like most of the wrong bands get pits these days. At least Slayer still gets amazing pits...I think just faster heavy music in general does, really.

My ex's friends and I started a pit at their Junior Prom. Cops broke it up and threatened to kick us out. Fun was had by all.

    New Cthulhu movie

No, he's not, but he's probably not the hardest. A talented director could easily do it, and even Stuart Gordon and Brian Yuzan have done at least ENTERTAINING adaptations of his work (and made their entire careers off of it). Just go rent Carpenter's In the Mouth of Madness. It's the closest thing to a real Lovecraft movie you'll ever get (including a TON of nods to HP's work, most especially naming the innkeeper Mrs. Pickman, a reference to the Lovecraft story The Pickman's Model).

    The Emmy Nominations

"Reality" show means gameshow now. Anything not involving a set script, basically. Road Rules? Game show. Big Brother? Game show. Survivor, Amazing Race, etc.? Game shows. Reality shows are just episodic documentaries, like Real World, Jon & Kate Plus 8, and just about everything else on TLC.

    Desert Island Draft: Movie Edition

Pan's Labyrinth - Guillermo del Toro (2006) Grotesque beauty. Wonderful acting, and del Toro's direction is...grotesquely beautiful. This remains the only sub-titled movie that my girlfriend likes (she hates sub-titles), and the acting is so great that I don't even think a bad dubjob could tarnish the movie itself.
