Besides the obvious huge blockbuster action movies, comedies really are the best movies to see in theaters. To me, there's always a tiny bit lost in translation when you see it by yourself at home. The absolute fucking worst kind of movies to see in theaters are horror because I'm always sitting in front or behind the pack of easily scared girls.

Count me in the crowd that didn't see Titanic in theaters. I saw it when it first premiered on HBO and didn't get the hype. Looking back on it, it seems like one of those movies that you have to see in theaters to appreciate. And since when has Martin Luther King Day been anything resembling a major weekend for movies? I've always thought it was in the midst of Hollywood's dumping period.

How exactly do you parody a parody? I think you're thinking that it's a ripoff of Spinal Tap, Invader. Although on the subject of terrible comedy,I wouldn't be surprised if Friedberg and Seltzer attempted to do Parody Movie. A parody of parodies.

WWE 24/7 Classics OnDemand General Discussion

A lot of my fondness for that show is due to nostalgia. Survivor Series '92 and Royal Rumble '93 were two of the wrestling tapes I rented frequently when I first got into wrestling as a lad. When the video store up the street was clearing out their wrestling tapes about ten years ago, I bought both of them alongside some other stuff. But the show really is pretty decent. The two main events are both around the **** mark and The Headshrinkers-High Energy is a nifty opener. Everything else is just sort of there but it's all fun to watch, even The Nightstick match is kind of fun. It's one of those interesting shows in between the Hogan era and The New Generation where WWF is still trying to find their footing. -
That explains that movie's awfulness. What I don't get is that The Grinch and Cat In The Hat movies were equally bad but the latter is almost universely reviled by critics and filmgoers alike (and rightfully so) while the former made a shitton of money and wasn't completely trashed (and in some cases was enjoyed) by critics. It's one of those things I'll never get. Thank God, we aren't seeing anymore live action Dr. Seuss adaptations. Incidentally, The Grinch Grinches The Cat In The Hat special was surprisingly disappointing to me when I saw it as a ten year old. The only thing that I can really remember from it was The Grinch's mother showing up for a musical number at the end.

2008 movies to open with a PSA under $1,000

It's getting mostly good reviews at horror sites but mixed reviews elsewhere. With Vinnie Jones as the villain and a title of Midnight Meat Train it seems like it'll at least be entertaining in a sort of cheesy way. -
All-Time Wrestling Roster Draft

Alright, my next selection is bound to piss off our good friend, Drury but I've been meaning to pick this guy for a few rounds. Admittedly, this guy is a thoroughly mediocre worker if not outright terrible. But luckily I'll be using him mostly as a bodyguard for Ric Flair. When I do use him in the ring, it'll either be in tag matches or against smaller guys who can bump around like pinballs for him. Like I said he's not a great worker and he's not good on the mic but he's got a good look and can play a half decent monster heel. With my 32nd pick in the All Time Wrestling Roster Draft, I'm proud to select... ...The Warlord! And for my third (and most likely, final) venue, I'm going to pick the arena that will hold my supercard. While The Grand Olympic Auditorium and Cow Palace are both legendary venues and worth holding my PPV at, I wanted a venue that would give my show a true "big event" feel and this venue has hosted many big events over the past 15 or so years. It's hosted everything from the infamous Tyson Vs Holyfield and Mayweather Vs De La Hoys fights to numerous UFC PPV events to The Billboard Music Awards to Barbara Streisand's comeback concert (I saw that last fact on wikipedia- don't take away my man card!). In the wrestling world, it's best known for hosting WCW's Halloween Havoc PPV from 1996 to 2000. My next venue is none other than... ...The MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada -

Off the top of my head, I've heard of Meet Bill, The Hottie and The Nottie, Deal, A Lawyer Walks Into A Bar, and Vince Vaughan's Wild West Comedy Show. Haven't seen any of them fortunately though Wild West Comedy Show looks like it might be worth a rental. I'm a sucker for "entertainers go on the road" documentaries. -

Aw come on! While it may be the weakest show of the set (it's certainly weaker than Spring Stampede '94 and I've never seen Taboo Tuesday '05), I don't take kindly to you insinuating Survivor Series '92 isn't a good show. Maybe it's pure nostalgia but I've always enjoyed it. You can't go wrong with Bret Hart/Shawn Michaels and Perfect and Savage Vs Flair and Razor. Even the bad matches are kept pretty short. -
Well I don't think there are enough non Austin Powers/Wayne's World/Shrek Mike Myers movies to determine if he's a draw. Admittedly, I haven't seen So I Married An Axe Murderer in a decade or so but he wasn't the star that he was today when that was released and a lot of movies starring SNL castmembers in their first starring roles kind of bomb for some reason. Cat In The Hat and The Love Guru were just bad, bad movies. All of his other roles were supporting or were part of an ensemble.
-
Hate to break it to you but Mike Myers created all of those characters except Shrek and wrote (or co-wrote) all of the Austin Powers and Wayne's World movies. Even with Shrek, Myers brought some ideas to the table. Call him out for being dreadfully inconsistant but saying he wasn't the draw for the Austin Powers or Wayne's World is a mind numbingly stupid argument. Shrek is a bit different as I think the draw for that (as with any of the DreamWorks CGI movies) is the all star voice cast.

Start a thread. I think there's enough interest.

A wolf whistle? Did he think it was a live taping for Saved By The Bell? Who does that shit?

Looking at the slate of August releases, I think TDK should be in the Top 10 for at least the rest of the month and perhaps well into September. And not that many people being at a showing of it on a Friday afternoon shouldn't be surprising. Friday afternoons are generally dead. Even when I went to a 3:15 showing of TDK on Opening Day, there were plenty of seats available
-
You know I'm mildly intrigued by this movie. You can't go wrong with a movie with a title like Midnight Meat Train and I love me some Vinnie Jones. Might have to rent it on DVD.
-
That's a really odd way to bury a movie too. You think they'd just throw it Straight To DVD or just throw it in a few theaters but putting it in a bunch of second run theaters? I've never heard of a studio doing that. Has that ever happened before?
-
The haphazard, slapped together feel is one of the main reasons I really enjoy Wayne's World 2. I could understand some being annoyed by it but it's so blatant that they're just throwing shit at the wall and seeing if it sticks that I can't help but enjoy it. Anyways I don't want to see anymore Mike Myers sequels at the moment. I don't want to see Wayne's World 3, Austin Powers 4, Shrek 4, So I Married Another Axe Murderer, none of that. He should do some more dramatic work or some supporting roles, anything but more sequels.
-
Like I said earlier, I wouldn't be completely surprised if TDK edges out The Mummy 3. The reviews I've read have been rather mediocre and the fans reaction apparently isn't much better. And has anybody on this board actually seen The Mummy 3? You think a well advertised, big budget sequel to a successful movie franchise would generate some discussion.
-
Yeah but he's talking about the Region 1 release of the UK Series. They shot a pilot for the American remake but it didn't get picked up (Thank God).

All-Time Wrestling Roster Draft

From what mellow was telling me in a PM the other day, I think you can pick as many venues as you want. There's no shortage of great wrestling venues IMHO. Still some legendary venues on the board. There's one I'm downright shocked hasn't been picked yet. -

Well I specifically said no decent storylines. I can remember way too many storylines overall she was involved in. Like when Scott Steiner and Test were fighting for her love and then Steiner turned heel and they became a tag team with Stacy and she became their shared sex slave *shudders*. Ah crappy 2003 WWE. -

To be fair to Drury, he does have The Dudley Boyz and she did manage them for a while. I don't know if I'm the only one who thinks this but while I agree that Keibler's is one of the hottest women to ever grace the world of professional wrestling with her prescence, she was also one of the most useless. I can't remember her being involed in any decent storylines and her mic skills, even by pro wrestling standards, weren't very good. -
Billy Dee Williams was in the movie for god's sake!
-
She was OK but I just don't really care for the Rachel Dawes character. It was the weak point in Begins and the weak point in this one.

Ugh. Ledger's performance was great perhaps even iconic but I think lost in all of this fawning over Ledger is how great the cast was from top to bottom. With the exception of Maggie Gyllenhaal, every featured player was good to great. I can't disagree more with the rising sentiment that this movie is the Scent of a Woman of superhero movies.
