  1. I suggest whoever intends on picking this up to do it ASAP. I just got my copy from EB--when they opened the new shipment there were a tone of Resident Evil 4s (PS2), Ratchet Deadlocked, Soul Calibur IIIs....and three Gunstar Super Heroes--which will be gone by the end of the day between me and the employees. Not sure if that's the exception or the rule nationwide. The game looks and feels incredible. While I would have compromised for Megadrive visuals in exchange for 2-player, considering it's a portable and such an opportunity would be rare, it's not that bad. So far--a simple introductory stage, then you pick which moon to tackle. Just started Moon 1, which has a starting sequence where you're standing on top of an airplane, barrel-rolling away from shots. Then it's a graphically souped-up version of the original Gunstar's 1st stage.
  2. Reminder-- Gunstar Super Heroes should be available tomorrow. I'd assumed 25th--but you know those ship dates, and recent wacky weather (at least in my area)... Hopefully I can pick it up and play a while before work.
  3. I wish I could say I'm shocked.
  4. I'm pleased at how the thread's taken off. Shyeah, right. Who are you kidding? One of the few launch titles I could go back and play (or if it wasn't launch, it was close). My favorite in the series is still TM2, which I still play from time to time to this day. Any handheld that is going to provide a haven for quality 2D titles is worth picking up. That's why PSP could hardly get a bigger "meh" from me. That, and the fact that I can play most of its good games on PS1 already. El Luchadore Magnifico: I've been considering that one as well, but the inability to rent DS games makes me a little leery. Evolution: ....um...what? When the heck did you buy it, anyway? PS3 I'll probably wait on. I've been checking out the rumored/probable launch titles, and it seems PS2 will suffice for me for a while. I checked out the X-Box 360 demo unit at EB today. So far, I'm only mildly impressed. Kameo is cool, although what I played seemed rather simplistic. Everything looks really pretty, but it's just a little prettier than current gen right now.
  5. watching the tape of Raw--holy crap, did Edge go to the HHH School of Burying Every****ingbody on the mic? I hate to say it, but he needs a nice, long, sit down talk with Foley.
  6. It's a house show, probably nobody will care.
  7. Bah--somebody merge my post with this one I guess. Oh, forgot that I did find one 1 dollar game, Quake 3 DC.
  8. I'm not sure if it is just a few select KBs, but mine was marking down a lot of games. Here's what I picked up: Tekken 5 - $10 (2 of 'em) Shadow Hearts - $5 Pac-Pix and Polarium for DS, each 10 bucks. Final Fight One (GBA) - 5 bucks. Sword of Mana - 10 bucks Prince of Persia Sands of Time (GC) - 5 bucks There were some Donkey Kongas for 10 bucks, but other folks already snatched them up.
  9. MGS2 was also a factor for me, oh if only I knew... However, I had gone through the whole reserving spiel and picked it up on the release date.
  10. The X-Box 360 is right around the corner, and it's got its share of reasons to buy (expanded XBL, high end specs, stronger development support). The DS has its dual screens, touch screen, and soon wifi online play. PSP can do the online thang as well, and can play movies, MP3s, and make dopey people pay 40 bucks for old PS1 games with crappy control (although the DS had that phase too--I haven't forgotten about Rayman and Mario 64 DS). However, specs mean nothing without the games. I remember that despite the hype surrounding the PS2, when I tried to decide on whether to get a used PS1 or just plunk down for a PS2, I looked over the pitiful (at the time) library, and I saw one game I actually wanted to play--Klonoa 2. I never thought it'd get a sequel, but was grateful there was one, and picked up the system with a copy of Klonoa 2, although the library of games coming out in the near future was also tempting. My first video game system was the Genesis. At the risk of sounding mundane, I got it for Sonic. I was disappointed to get the "Core" system for Christmas, but my brother in law got one as well and gave me his Sonic 2, so I still ended up with it soon enough. For the SNES, it wasn't Mario, exactly. Finding demo units of SNES units with Super Mario World in them was a common sight, but playing it...it never really resonated with me like SMB did, and I could still play SMW all the time without buying. I will admit, however, that seeing DKC, and then looking back in old magazines about all the great titles I was missing got me into begging for an SNES. The announcement and arrival of Knuckles' Chaotix suckered me into getting a 32X--my dumbest gaming purchase decision ever. Just finding a copy required me to pester my mother to drive all over the greater Pittsburgh area until we found a TRU with copies of the game. Sega CD: my first used system. Got it fairly cheap when we were in the pseudo-next-gen period when Jaguars and 3DOs were on the prowl. Sonic CD was the breaker on that. No longer own it. PS1: I rented one to play the nearly-as-close-as-possible-to-arcade version of Wrestlemania The Arcade Game, but the real reason I actually bought the friggin' thing was that the demo disc included as part of the rental unit included several games that just blew me away--Jumping Flash and Tekken. I didn't see the big deal over Ridge Racer, although I liked it too. So, initially--WM arcade. Let he who was not influenced at all by Toshinden cast the first stone. No longer owned since I have a PS2 now. N64: Mario was nearly enough, but OOT actually convinced me to pick up the system. Saturn-- also was purchased used, from a pawn shop. Not really purchased for one game so much as multiple old titles, but since my EB Games sold import Saturn titles, I picked up mainly to play X-Men vs. SF and Guardian Heroes. Dreamcast -- Sonic Adventure and Soul Calibur did the trick, although my DC was purchased long after the fact. Gamecube: Metroid Prime made me cave in, Mario didn't hurt either. X-Box: No longer owned. I got mainly because of the good price, but didn't find a lot of games worth keeping the system for. However, Ninja Gaiden is the game I miss the most. GBA: Castlevania CotM and Wario Land 4 sealed it. DS: Dawn of Sorrow sold me on it, and so far I'm very pleased with that decision. So, anyone else? What's *the* game that compelled you to open up the old wallet (or beg the parents) for a new system?
  11. Renegade hasn't replied, so I downloaded Buster's Hidden Treasure...and it's basically Sonic the Rabbit. Imagine Sonic sans spinning, and a little slower to pick up speed, and you've got a good idea of what the game is like. Not as tight or HQ, but still fun.
  12. vivi: how much did you play it? I know that I, for one, *hated* the first hour or so of the game. The excessive enemies, the Time Bitch, all that damn Godsmack, the Balde Dancers who knock you to your death a few times, etc. Yes, that sucked. However, it has since tapered off, and the 2 hours or so I've played of it since buying it and continuing my game has been pretty darn fun overall. The free form combat is winning me over, too. I miss using the dagger in combat, though. Plus, in SoT it was nary impossible to end up falling off a ledge when fighting, while it can happen here.
  13. SPP hasn't even been announced for the US, so patience...maybe they'll do ya bundle with SPP down the line. I'm sure Nintendo will will be having pink DSes by themselves in addition to the bundles, so worst case you'd have to buy them separately. I doubt it'll top Yoshi's Island, but hardly any games do.
  14. Straightloop.com has a new "Pixelante" shirt--said phrase was coined by ol' Jack. Proceeds from sales of the shirt go to Child's Play. http://www.straightloop.com/
  15. Is VHS okay? http://product.half.ebay.com/Blue-Collar_W...nfoQQprZ3066702 Never try to find even marginally rare stuff from Amazon. They'll really blow the asking prices out of proportion. EDIT: check your PM box, TOOG.
  16. From: Jeremy Parish's 1up blog Japanese site, containing gameplay vids: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ds/aspj/index.html BTW, NoJ already has a pink DS over there, Anya.
  17. Not ready to splurge on the DVDs yet, but I really want to hear the director's commentary for B&R and BF. Which one has the better commentary track?
  18. Warrior Within is now only 20 bucks! Got it at EB for $19.99, and seems to be the same price everywhere (well, Walmart for $19.82). After playing it for about an hour straight, I'm reminded it still is an awesome game. That hour was free of Balde Dancers, the Dahaka and the accompanying Godsmack riff of course. And since I'm bumping anyway, here's a recent OPM article on Two Thrones: http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3144341&did=3
  19. According to the CNN photographer, no they don't. Who the hell asks for a PHOTOGRAPHER's opinion on something like this?
  20. Since when has Thompson justified his positions on a religious basis? Not saying his ilk doesn't, but I don't recall him ever doing so.
  21. I'd heard some tidbits of info about an alleged 3rd NES Zelda that was pushed back indefinitely when the Genesis was starting to really take off. However, even those rumors were in the *maybe* 20% complete range. Supposedly it was more like the original LoZ (like Lttp), but I haven't even seen a screen shot of it so I doubt it got beyond the planning stages. That cart has got to be a fake, for many of the reasons mentioned on that link. If it were real it would have likely been leaked and dumped a long time ago.
  22. And even then, it would have to be complete and factory sealed to be worth very much.
  23. Stone age thinking. Who plays fighters for good fighting engines, anyway? And darnit, with online play T5 could have gotten an extra 1/10 point! It look that long to do what DA did in about half of a month? That's sad. I had hoped it would have done worse, though. GBA > crappy online play.
  24. Well, unlike SC2, SC3 doesn't already have an arcade release. Still, I expect it'll do better than T5, which I haven't gotten around to giving a damn about and so have many others. It was a brilliant marketing move, though, esp considering how hard it is to sell people on fighters these days (even good ones). It's not like tourneys allow the exclusives anyway. (<--- Owns a version for GC because of Link, as well as a PS2 version because the GC controller sucks for fighters) T5's bonus features, in comparison, were lame. Arcade versions of games I can get about 5 bucks each, but without the cool extras? You can put different hats on the game characters? *Another* crappy beat 'em up mode that is utter trash? Hotwhoopedydamnshi! Then again, MKD had 5 special editions, kollectable kards, a bonus disc with MK1, the expanded konquest mode, a bigger krypt, a revamped roster with tons of old faces, puzzle kombat, chess kombat, ONLINE PLAY, and was still pretty much the same game only in some ways worse. Yet, it still sold like crap.
  25. As the theory goes, ozone has little to do with global warming. Supposedly the abundance of CO^2 is what's causing global warming. Thinning ozone is supposedly linked to more cancer cases.
