  1. PS3 GPU less powerful than GeForce 7800. Not really an earth-shattering news item, but at least it helps ground speculation about PS3's power a little more in reality. I won't be shocked at all if it turns out PS3 is weaker than the 360, or about even. I expect them to each do certain things a little better, though. (Note: Yeah, I noticed the source, but it isn't like they're the only ones supporting it. That article also claims 360 got more raw power, although just on paper now.)
  2. Weren't there talks last year or so about Vince trying to get Tito Ortiz in WWE? Or were those totally unsubstantiated? Of course, I wouldn't put it past Vince to try to buy the biggest UFC name willing to whore himself out and get buried on WWE TV just to make UFC "look bad." Although the thought of Tito knocking Edge dafugout with a single punch is amusing. I don't expect it to get a huge audience right away, but WWE is experiencing no growth worth mentioning. There might be plenty of disillusioned WWE viewers (and considering, in general, the core audience is aging), they might be open to a more mature product.
  3. Yeah, newest in the series.
  4. They'll do the same thing they always do against something that eats into their ratings--do the same old **** and make lame potshots. i.e. "There's a clear difference between a fighter and an entertainer", and JR will try to contrast WWE's "old school storytelling" with "some upstart bloodsport" in the RR.
  5. Anya hasn't played Shaolin Monks, and she actually asked for my take on it since I have played the demo. The controls for the platforming sections are pretty bad. Otherwise, it's alright for what it is, but I wouldn't drop 40-50 bones on the final game, personally. If they fix the platforming sections in the final, or keep them to a minimum, the game'll be pretty fun. However, it doesn't seem to be anything groundbreaking.
  6. My EB gave me a free demo of Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects. The demo is light on features--only two playable characters and one arena is featured--but it's Smash Bros-ish, but with full 3D arenas like Power Stone. Simple control scheme, idiotically simple juggles, and so forth. But, it's going to have a decent roster, it's 3D, EA will promote the hell out of it and the final version will be online, so it will probably sell well anyway. Of course, judging it on a demo may be rather unfair. Yet, the previous EA X-Men fighters didn't set the world on fire either, so I don't expect this game to when they've yet to pull off a good "true" fighter.
  7. Well, Bandai jumps on any new (Japanese) system. Just like the GC is riddled with licensed American crap games here, it's riddled with licensed anime crap over there. However, Japan in general has embraced the DS more, in no small part because of Nintendogs. And, hot damn--a game I actually want to play on PSP!! http://game-science.com/news/001175.php I'm still waiting on that Demon's Crest sequel, but this should do nicely, Capcom. Looks like old school plus some bitchin' new art direction.
  8. Five-O's got a little bit of the Bionic Commando thing going on with the wire as well. However, to play the entire game, you have to play it on hard. Last level is filled with gigantic beams that just nuke your health, so it takes forever to make much progress. Still damn fun, though. Sigma Star Saga also a ditto. However, it can be frustrating when you get stuck with the huge, slow as hell ship. You knew about the game way back when though. Any of the Klonoa games are excellent (GBA and PS2, although PS1 original is worth checking out as well), although they're a bit on the easy side. The original game holds up well too. Ape Escape 2 (PS2): Kind of a short game, but so damn fun it shouldn't be passed up. Rumble Roses (PS2): A bit short on modes, but plays better than any of the WWE games on the big 3. Circuit City has it for 10 bucks, and by looking around you should be able to find it for under 20 easily. Definitely check 'em out, although I feel Going Commando is the best one. Looks like I'll be getting a DS when Dawn of Sorrow hits. Most of the reviewers who have played it seem to like it more than Aria and it may very well be as good as SotN (or darn close).
  9. El Satanico: Great! I am not certain if my Wal-Mart has that particular model, but I might pick one of those players up and check it out.
  10. Since this seems the appropriate place for any DCAU discussion... http://wf.toonzone.net/WF/batman/DVD/volume4/ While overall not as awesome as the TAS/B&R episodes, it'll be great to get the New Adventures on DVD at last.
  11. Obviously you missed the "Ultimatum" ep, although the Ultimen also appear in Panic in the Sky in a way.
  12. At this rate, HHH will be rated an Overall of 98. AndrewTS sounds more right every year about the crappy stat system for the Smackdown games. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah. I remember when games would tout how "realistic" their stats were. Since HCTP the stat system seems more for are reinforcing the kayfabe rankings. In SvR I think they improved (cruisers were practically worthless against hosses in HCTP), but SvR's gameplay and story mode had changes I didn't like. The gameplay seems have regressed a little. The countering system is ridiculously inconsistent. It's even worse online. I understand lag is going to happen, but it seemed like every single match the timing for counters was different. Plus there were matches where it seemed to be impossible to counter anything. I'd have my legs worked over for several minutes straight, without even a lucky escape or break. Playing with friends is fun, but don't even bother with strangers. I've fought too many 98 Point Batistas with turbo-pads (quitting a game if the match is turning my way) to ever bother with that again.
  13. http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3143353&did=1 VF5 trailer out. Sadly, it's just a "real time" demo of what the in-game graphics should look like. Plus, it's status is still "arcade only," which probably translates to "look for the upgrade on one of the new home systems." Looks more impressive than DoA4, though. If MS could nail it down, a home VF5 version could give the Japanese 360 a bit of a boost.
  14. He's desperately seeking a purpose on the forums, it seems. He should stick to the Pit, honestly. Outside of CE stuff, he has nothing to contribute. Myself and half the mods have him on ignore already. Just try that.
  15. Hooray for another 2-week ratings pop, a book plug, and a job to some worthless young slug. I also think Masters is the most likely candidate. If Foley and Michaels don't at least clash on the mic at some point, it's going to be kind of dull, IMO. At this point, we have no idea for when/how long the deal is for, right?
  16. I see it supports DVD-R and RW, but it's still US/Can region only, right? What's the best value on a DVD player that plays DVD-R/RW and is region free? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Actually there's a code that is suppose to make it region free. I haven't tried it myself. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ah, any idea where I'd find one?
  17. AS knows InuYasha is cheesy, but they keep it in decent slots almost constantly (except for like 3 weeks, then they put it back on at midnight). That repetition of names commercial always kills me.
  18. Edited for truth.
  19. Don't worry though, Squeenix fans--DRAKENGARD II still is supposed to make it in the US this year.
  20. Those people have them, because Wal-Mart sells one for less than $40. By the way, those less than $40 players are the best DVD players I've owned. Those little bastards play everything. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp...3A62055%3A95987 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I see it supports DVD-R and RW, but it's still US/Can region only, right? What's the best value on a DVD player that plays DVD-R/RW and is region free?
  21. "Actually this version of the Legion of Doom is made to be like the exact opposite of the JLU, which means there are like 30 members in the group." So we'll probably see a lot of the same faces from Injustice for All--minus Grundy and Joker and the addition of a bunch of others. Are we going to get a JL DVD set at some time, or are they going to continue to do the lame 4-eps-per-disc max thing thing they've been doing?
  22. "Speaking of Game Boy Games...anyone know if the DS or the upcoming GBM will still play the old, old OLD...pre color Game Boy games?" Micro is just a GBA in a new casing. It plays all Game Boy games including those. DS only plays DS games and GBA games. Why? Well--there are a couple ways of looking at it-- (from ArsonWinter's excellent Game Boy compatibility FAQ, hosted on GameFAQs.com)
  23. I love the ignore feature, even though some people have to muck it up by quoting dumb posts. *adds XxMariaSantosxX to list, alongside deinley1 and MikeSC* As lame as the non-finish was for the street fight, at least it wasn't a total Matt burial job, which I expected. And Matt needs to make it clear that he wouldn't piss on Lita now, and he's back more to beat Edge's ass for betraying their friendship than any interest or pretense of "getting Lita back." That Altar Bridge cameo was pretty pointless. Even if the backstage attack on Ric/save at the end was old, dumb, and predictable as all hell, damn did Ric look messed up. The blood smeared on the wall was a nice touch, too. However, the street fight ending bump was really, really lame. It was an improvement on the Kane/Snitsky ending bump ("you okay?"), but it wasn't much easier to take seriously. As horrible as Torrie was as a face, she's 10 times more irritating as a heel. Victoria looked huge as she was kicking the crap out of Ashley. They need to just dub Torrie/Candace's voices over whenever they cut promos. Another great HBK promo, one of the few good face ones he's cut in a while. Although the "man makes the title" comment is kind of funny with Shawn's history. Big Show getting the Giant push seems silly at this point, but the crowd seemed to totally eat up that squash. But...they really are doing a Snitsky/Show feud, though. *sigh* Okay--building up Big Show--sure, why not? Building up Tomko...? Give me a break. Relatively less lame than usual Cena promo. I still want to see Angle beat the hell out of him, though.
  24. This game isn't being developed by AKI, so I wouldn't expect that. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> AKI only let you edit appearances. Yukes let you edit the moves. Neither one let you edit both (you'd have to clone a guy to a CAW spot in the AKI games). The chick from the last Diva search who actually wants to wrestle and didn't do too badly--as green as she was--when she was on SD. That is a bad rendered pic, though. She looks like Lena in Clonus...after getting lobotomized. So that shitty stat system is still in place, I take it?
  25. "My problem with both these systems so far is that they both seem really oriented towards Japan, with any success in the US just being a happy coincidence that they don't really care about" The PSP?! How do you mean?
