DK64: http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/191702.asp Take a look at the ratings there. It was indeed overrated when you consider that the game is actually quite terrible. I wonder what sort of drugs some of those reviewers were on. Game Fan could only give it a 75/100 average, and they loved the previous Rare/DKC games Isn't that what Dynamite Deka 1&2 aka Die Hard Arcade and Dynamite Cop were (save for the Sarah thing)?

The Wii has way more than 5 games. It just only has about 5 games that are good and are not Virtual Console downloads. However, I tend to use my Wii at some some bit every day, even if it isn't necessarily playing actual, bonafide Wii games. Crackdown and Assassin's Creed are the games that seem to be swaying me the most towards the 360. However, if anything is going to sell me on a PS3, it won't be the marquee titles, but rather some stranger sleeper hit I probably don't even know exists yet. The fact that I don't want or need a 360 *right now* just goes to show you how most of its library appeals to me. The 360 is slowly but surely shedding its image as the space marine machine.

Yeah, but EBA fell well below Nintendo's sales expectations. Still, it should have turned a tidy profit, right? The engine's already right there. Most of the budget I'd assume would have been for licensing/recording the music, though. I wonder if that'd be the dealbreaker.

Well, check the link above. Reviews are in. It's a good game, but what is your tolerance for lame "challenge missions" and cock rock? If it's high and you liked the DC games, it looks like a go.

http://kotaku.com/gaming/top/here-it-is-ni...2007-238388.php Kotaku posted the 1P Wii releases slated for 2007 (Japan): This "sometime 2007" crap is annoying, though. However, this is the first I've heard of Kirby for Wii. There was a Gamecube Kirby platformer in the works waaaaaaaaaaay back, but there was no info released for it forever. So, appears it's finally back on.

I think the Sonic Adventure gameplay seems a lot worse on Gamecube. The control feels too sensitive and it appears to have way more bugs (I'd fallen through solid areas a few times on GC). Those are the versions probably most people have/are playing, though. I've finished Sonic Adventure without encountering any bugs/glitches like that.

http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/21/elite-be...l-is-on-oh-yes/ Friggin hell. I *think* I can pronounce the full title of the original game, but not that. It's Ouendan 2, anyway. Hopefully we get an actual Elite Beat Agents 2, but if not at least there's a solid alternative.

No it wasn't. If you're comparing it to a top tier fighting game series, it doesn't hold up so well, but it's far above other MK/SF clone ilk. Plus this overrated talk seems more like EGM were morons back in the day and gave out high scores like party favors. They're the ones who suck for inflating perceptions of just ok games. Toshinden totally deserves it, though. That was pretty much the game that sold people on the PS1 since every mag gushed over it and how it was prettier/more fun than VF.

Wii outsold the 360 and PS3 in January.

I wouldn't say critically panned. IGN is the absolute lowest score it's gotten: http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/...onicwildfire?q=

Congratulations. I hope you enjoy it. So, it looks like there's lots of systems being snatched by Ebay sellers? *groan* Lame.

He wasn't so upset about the game itself, but what happened because of it. What happened was that when DKC was a huge hit, he was being pressured to have Yoshi's Island turned into a cgi game as well. He complained that Americans would put up with "mediocre gameplay" if the graphics were good. He later apologized and explained the pressure, though. The cgi DK model was actually designed with his input. Rare just put a tie on him. But still, the childish gaming press hates Rare anyway. EGM named 5 Rare games out of their top 10 most overrated games.

Like I said, I think it all stems from Shiggy. However, if so, that's utter bull, because Shiggy's own right hand man made Yoshi's Story. Since Shiggy didn't hit him with a stick until he fixed it, I think he's heavily to blame for it.

http://www.ebgames.com/gs/weeklyad/current/ There's no mention of that specific trade in "offer," but they're offering an additional $20 trade in credit on a DS/PSP.

1up has about a 13% chance of loading on Internet Explorer. As opposed to, oh, 85% on Firefox. Try this: http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/8953/ebga...nylq5sr7yc5.jpg

http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3157319 I think it's fake. I've been to 2 stores today and nobody seems to have anything like that up.

You wouldn't even need to get a PS2-USB adapter--there are tons of USB controllers readily available. However, my computer is iffy about recognizing it, and I always have to unplug/plug it back in. I honestly don't have that much of a problem of $5 for NES games, provided they're A+ titles. However, when I often get carts from pawn shops for 2-3 bucks, I'm more apt to risk it on a title I haven't played before. It's the 8 bucks for the 16-bit stuff that's really iffy. And 10 bucks for N64 games could go either way. The higher quality titles, sure, if they don't have gimped functionality. However, clearly they know they don't have much to offer on N64 with only 2 titles so far (3 if you count Japan's Rumble-less Ocarina). But the value at the Playstation Store has it beat though. $5 for Jumping Flash is a fair price by any standard. Ditto for Silent Bomber whenever they opt to give it to us. XBLA's though I'd be quite annoyed with. It appears original content on there is awesome. Unfortunately, highly-demanded content like SOTN, Worms, and Double Dragon are announced like a year in advance and they don't give you even a time frame for appearance. I'm still shocked to hear that none of those are out yet.

"VC has nothing to do with the Wii" Explain that logic. And while you're at it, explain how your previous post wasn't trolling. There was a Retrogaming topic that would have covered pretty much anything PS store/XBLA/VC, but that fizzled out.

I'd like to add that no one cares that you think that.

Konami seemed to really love that HUD design.

Or rather, a fighter with more complicated button commands than a Smash Bros. smash attack.

If you find the DC controller serviceable, that's good and fine. However, I find it difficult not to believe that the D-pad shape, the lack of buttons, and the obnoxiously huge expansion slots were steps backward. "The Gamecube controller is the best for certain games, Honestly!)" I'm inclined to agree, if those games don't use the d-pad, like, ever. I do like the triggers and the analog stick on the DC controller, though, so it's not all bad. I think Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, for instance, controls way better with its native controller than on GC. GC control stick seemed just way too damn sensitive in a level like City Escape where you needed your character to NOT shoot off in a random direction when you just slightly tilted the analog stick.

Yeeeeeeeeah, who called it? Make sure to have your umbrellas ready while browsing game websites this week, to protect you from the collective pissing and moaning about DKC from the gaming press. In case you didn't get the memo, you're not allowed to like the game, since Miyamoto once expressed disgust over it.

The real reason--content ratings are often stupid and arbitrary. However, it could have been the hookers, beating people with blunt objects, smashing bottles in people's faces, blasting them with a bazooka that nets the T. Streets of Rage 1 is merely a good beat 'em up. SoR3 is a pretty darn good beat 'em up. SoR2 is a fricken classic--one of the best ever. I'd argue the SoR games, or at the very least 2, smoke DD for level design, music, control and overall gameplay. Still giving mad props to DD, though, it's still classic. It's just SoR2 came later and had a lot of history to drawn upon. I think Final Fight is good but the gameplay is very basic. SoR2 has probably 5x the moves, all things considered. Plus, Final Fight and most of Double Dragon's sequels blew hard, while the SoR series was very solid.

Mattdotcom, et al: Thanks, guys, I appreciate the feedback. raza: Well, if the game itself was a perfectly-playing port of a classic, with maybe a few bonuses, I'd say fair enough. I bought the NES Classics Zelda for GBA, so I shouldn't be one to have a double standard on that. However, failing the "perfect port" scenario, if it was a stunning re-imagining of the game that preserved the core gameplay (Sonic Pocket Adventure on NGPC), even better. If it were a mini-version of Sonic Jam, with decent representations of Sonic 1, 2, 3 etc. it would even be awesome. However, 20 bucks for a single, terrible port is unacceptable. Now, unlike the Virtual Console games, there's still cost going into making/packaging the game with the box and manuals, so naturally I expect it to cost more than a download that has likely no fixed costs whatsoever. Venk: Yeah, seeing that did help motivate me (well that and having an unexpected day off), so there ya go. Probably a few more days on the next update(s), though.
