And they did it WITHOUT Rocco Baldelli as well. If they can get some pitching together and a good manager to build on their good second half this year, they might be in the WC hunt next year. In fact, for part of the season at least, the AL East might be a four horse race next year (Baltimore being the odd team out).
-
Oh yeah, I forgot about that. So I guess the Red Sox, since they didn't win a division, would be #4 and play Chicago while the Yankees play Anaheim.
-
So say the Red Sox win tomorrow to get the WC. What would the AL matchups be? The Yanks and Sox would have the same records, so how would they decide who is the #2 and #3 seed (since Anaheim would be #4, correct?)
-
Sox only have themselves to blame for this one. It isn't a 1978-level choke, but not winning a single H2H series against the Yankees in the second half (unless there was one between the 4-game after the ASB and the last one at Yankee Stadium I'm forgetting) led to this. But, honestly, why the fuck start Millar? I like how Buck said "With Millar, Francona sacrifices defense...." and never finished the thought because he probably couldn't think of anything Millar brings to the table. Power? Uh-uh Production? Only 50 RBIs Speed? HA!

How about "He had a bad at-bat and was outguessed by Timlin"? Come on man, even your fellow Yankee fans on this board are telling you to clam up. I told you to knock it off last time. This is your last warning. Anyway, if I had any beef with the home plate ump tonight it was that he took about 3 hours to signal a strike after the ball hit the mitt. The games are already long and tense enough without you making us wait for a fucking strike call, dude.

Look, all I'm saying is that they won last year, and it is incredibly difficult to repeat, so I'm not going to torture myself if a team that is inferior to that team where it counts in October (pitching and D) doesn't win. I've had that mindset all year. Besides, they've definitely got a bright future ahead of them (if he gets his off-speed stuff going, Jonathan Papelbon is going to be a fucking HOSS next year in the rotation) unlike the Yankees, whose minor leagues are in shambles and there's no guarantee they'll win this year, so they will still have the distinction of being the only MLB team to choke away a 3-0 lead. There, is that negative enough?

This Sports Guy article sums up my feelings pretty well. EDIT: And just to rile you guys up more, I'm probably only going to watch the game tonight off and on. I'm not giving myself an ulcer at 22.

Uh, I was complimenting the Yankees on getting it mostly together in the second half while saying that the Red Sox were getting along mostly with offense, but that has cooled down over the past month and their weak bullpen (at least the Yankees have set roles in set-up and closer, unlike the Sox) and inconsistent rotation is being exposed and couldn't keep the Yankees at bay any longer.

You know something? I don't care as much about what happens this weekend than I thought I would have in this situation. Really, if the Red Sox lose 2 of 3 and miss the playoffs, I won't really be bothered as much as if this happened last year. You know why? This team is lucky to be in this position in the first place and all their weaknesses are starting to catch up with them. The offense is banged up (only Ortiz is really getting it done in crunch time. Sure, Rentaria is hot, but that's in the early part of the game. How many clutch hits does he have? Two?) the rotation is full of #3 starters (though Wakefield is the de-facto ace right now) and the bullpen is crap (Papelbon is the only reliable guy and he's not pitching tonight). The offense had been saving the team's ass all year, but not now. Meanwhile, the Yankees have an ace (Johnson), two reliable starters off the scrap heap (Chacon and Small) and two guys that can finish it off in the end (Gordon and Rivera) to go with the offense they have. THAT'S why Ortiz should be MVP; if the Sox don't have him, they would have been out of it a month ago. The Yankees fought through bad pitching and the Giambi thing and have gotten it all together. The Red Sox let them hang around too long (I believe they are something like 2-6 H2H since the ASB) and now it finally caught up with them. A Sox sweep isn't out of the question, but it is highly doubtful they can do it.

Well, he's not a heel per se, just extremely frustrated that he lost the biggest match of his career and went out there to vent. He kind of got roped into the tag match and when he lost, the frustration came back. Though why did he not help Zack when the GPX attacked, hmm?
-
Well, he does fart a lot, but he's still adorable. I think that's what my brothers girlfriend says about my brother, actually.

My sister got a pug and I've dog-sat him a few times. Very well behaved and already housebroken at two months.
-
Nope, you can go ahead and do it Tony. How did I forget the Love Shack? Hilarious. So will it be a post-show thing from now on?
-
Well, since almost every other playoff spot is settled (save for the NL WC), I guess it wouldn't do much to create a seperate Red Sox/Yankees thread because it would probably kill any discussion in this thread. Still, let's behave ourselves this weekend (you know who you are). Looks like a sweep by either team is the only way to avoid a one-game playoff of any fashion, unless the Indians can't beat the AAA White Sox this weekend.

A good follow-up to DD. What I was involved in was a hell of a lot better than what I planned to do myself (though I wrote some funny segments, dammit). Really, Fall River is like 15 minutes from Providence. WHERE WERE THE PK FANS?! I think Zack was paying off people, taking a cue from most RI politicians. Yeah, it was mostly promos and skits, but post-PPV shows usually are like that to build up stuff for the next PPV. Besides, the main event (which I wrote a bit of) was a good match.

I should make Alf a Whiney Bitch and change his name to "Colts Suck"? Can do. EDIT: Should be done Alf. The moderating thing, I mean, though I still have the Admin CP open (heh heh heh).
-
In a bit of a "WTF?" move, the Red Sox trade for Mike Stanton to play the last four games of the season (since he won't be postseason eligible). So is he going to have 20 IP before the weekend is over or something?
-
OK, I forgot that Parka is busy with CW, so I'm open to suggestions for challengers.
-
I'll go along with every idea proposed here with me in it. I think PK will drop the X-Title at WWE and that's what will cause him to "snap" and that will lead to it. All I need is an opponent, though I have an idea.

It is direct to video. That's what the (V) means. Looks like it is about Stifler's little brother, though both the Sherminator and Finch are in it(does Eddie Kaye Thomas need work that badly?). It kind of sounds like they're taking Stifler's subplot from American Wedding and stretching it to fit a whole movie. -
I had that thought last weekend and was going to beat you to the punch. Tomorrow's game is essentially a must win for the Red Sox, because they're done if they go down two games. There's no way in hell they will sweep the Yankees at home (especially since they will probably stink against Wang, like they have against almost every pitcher they have faced for the first time this year).
-
No, but if the D does have a bad game, the offense can pick them up. And anyone that says the Pats receivers are "average" are just saying that because there is no Marvin Harrison or TO that Brady throws to all the time, though Branch might be turning into one. People are just not giving the offense (not Brady, the entire offense) the credit it deserves and aren't saying the Patriots win by being the most balanced team in the league, which is the truth in my view. The way they play is their defense makes their opponents make a mistake or choke under pressure and then the offense crams it down their throats.
-
HE DIDN'T MISS A FUCKING PASS IN THE FOURTH FUCKING QUARTER LAST WEEK! God. I also think Brady has gone over 300 in the last two Super Bowls (I know he did in 38, don't remember if he did in 39.) Look, yes the defense shut the Steelers down in the second half, but the defense didn't go 12/12 for 140something in the fourth quarter. Did you see the AFC title game last year? Was that a "conservative offense"? They can be if the situation calls for it and they have to kill the clock (the Colt game) and they can also put 30+ points on the board (the Cincy game).
-
Last year's offense was: 1st in average margin of victory (11 points) 4th in total points (437) (they were 12th in '03) 4th in PPG (27.3) 7th in total yards (5722) and YPG (357.6) The problem with the offense was that they didn't have a real running game (just 100.4 YPG in '03), but Dillon gives them balance (improved to 133.4 YPG in '04, good for 7th in the league). The Patriots are built to win any type of game you throw at them. Blowouts, defensive struggles, high scoring games, close games, you name em'. Just because Brady doesn't run for 150 yards a game and doesn't throw 49 TD passes in a year doesn't mean that he's not one of the top QBs in the league. He's had two 300+ yard games already this year, I believe (Oakland and Pittsburgh).

If you want to post the show Alf, go ahead. Otherwise, I'll do it.
