It's funny. They ran this on UK TV over the past couple of months and got terrible viewing figures. Then, suddenly, they take the idea to America and people lap it up. Crazy.

One and Only "ECW: One Night Stand" Thread
King Cucaracha replied to GreatWhiteNope's topic in The WWE Folder
I made sure to catch a replay of this so I could offer an actual opinion, based on facts, instead of what I've said in the thread so far. In my honest opinion, one of the most over-rated PPVs ever. It was good, don't get me wrong. But some people have been comparing it to Wrestlemania X7 which is completely laughable. Whever it was because I didn't watch it live or not, I don't know, but it left absolutely NO lasting impression on me. Whatsoever. Hell, my first thought once the show had ended was "what was all the fuss about". 'Decent' matches, a 'decent' garbage brawl, an ECW vs. WWE storyline that there was no reason to get involved in...good for nostalgia, except that I've seen everyone on the show wrestle since ONS except the tall guy from the F.B.I. It was accurate to the old ECW, sure. But it had no more of an impact on me than watching NTR '99 two hours beforehand. They must have done something right though, to (apparantly) get such a good buyrate and to have so many people 'marking teh fuq out' watching. Then again, that's what Heyman such a good booker. He knew exactly what would push an ECW fan's buttons and he did it. Genius? Who knows? -
Yay me! Oh...wait.

The OAO RAW Thread for June 13th, 2005
King Cucaracha replied to Prophet of Mike Zagurski's topic in The WWE Folder
By the way, the 'BOYCOTT VENGEANCE' stuff is pathetic guys. You do realise who you just paid for your little ECW nostalgia trip? You realise everyone who went to the Hammerstein Ballroom to 'stick it to the man, one last time' were lining the pockets of 'the man'? As long as Vince is getting money, I don't think he gives a crap if the ECW PPV out-draws Vengeance. It was a nostalgia PPV that's going to be forgotten in weeks on-screen. The only thing Vince gained was knowledge, that he can wheel out ECW's carcass everytime he needs to pop a buyrate and get money. I don't see the buzz in a weekly ECW show either. You can't run on nostalgia alone. ECW can't be ECW in a WWE televised environment. -
The OAO RAW Thread for June 13th, 2005

Angle, HBK, Jericho (when motivated), Benjamin. I make that 4/6. 5 if you count HHH, who still has decent matches with the right opponents. To say they 'can't wrestle' is crap anyway. -
Back in 'the day' when wrestling was all the rage, about 20/25 of us had a Hardcore Battle Royal every now and then in school. Somebody even decided to bring in a replica belt for us to run around with. What we looked like I have no idea, but they were fun as hell. I busted up my knee Frog Splashing a friend off of a climbing frame once, jammed my spine by (stupidly) hitting what was apparantly a sweet Stunner. Me and a taller kid would go around 3-Ding people. I managed to play Crash once, with lunch ending with about 10 people chasing me through the school. British education system at it's finest.

One and Only "ECW: One Night Stand" Thread
King Cucaracha replied to GreatWhiteNope's topic in The WWE Folder
Well, guys like Eddie and Rey had nothing to gain from the show. If one of them picked an injury, that'd be their storyline in jeopardy and however long on the shelf. And for what? One match on a reunion show? I can't blame Eddie or Rey to be honest. -

Glad it was okay, Supes. Although, if I had thought about it, I would have asked Chuck to make sure I went over you. Again.

Pre-emptive comments. Best. PPV. Opening. Ever. BIIIIIG ups to Zyon on one hell of a match and his first title win. Now, just don't disappear and you'll be set. Yay the tag title match. Hawke's match was very good. I'm assuming that was either a co-write or a Toxxic-write on the LMS, because I've read enough Toxxic matches in my time to know. That's not a knock on Spike. Looks like a long one so I'll read that later. Yay for Ejiro's match. Two matches still to come, so this is all the comment you get for now.

Swiped from the IWA:MS board. Joe, post Necro match. Ouch.

This is bothering the hell out of me. Is there any way I could get rid of the "edited by...." portion. I don't have the option to uncheck the box when I go to edit anymore. ....I don't have that check box. Which makes this difficult. Is it a mod thing? Because the check box disappeared for me the same sort of time I became a mod.

SWF 13th Hour 2005: The Card!
King Cucaracha replied to Chuck Woolery's topic in Smarks Wrestling Federation
Well, that's cool then. I was just saying, if it's my match you were waiting on, it'd be best to put the show up without it because of...reasons. Yeah, reasons. -

Looks like they pushed the right buttons. I haven't seen this board marking out so much since...well, maybe since Evolution turned on Orton. And even then, not so much. Still don't regret not ordering though. Sounds like the kind of show that'll live in the memory for a couple of months but won't hold up all that well over time. Still, if the DVD isn't edited to all hell then I'll be picking it up, just to see what all the hysterics here were about. -
SWF 13th Hour 2005: The Card!
King Cucaracha replied to Chuck Woolery's topic in Smarks Wrestling Federation
So what the fuck am I supposed to do, considering he's finishing off the Tag Title Match? Leave it out if you want, I'm not really bothered. -
Yeah, as I say, he doesn't work best as a face. Not sure if it's his offense, his selling, I don't know, but something doesn't fit right as a face. He gets the pop and then he only really gets cheered for the C'MON BEH-BAY~! (which is a 'catchphrase', so it's not as bad when he shouts it as random generic face shouting) and when he cheats.

It's okay for a few matches a card. There's nothing 'fresh' on the card though. And it's okay to have a match happen again, I'm not saying every match has to be new. But the whole point of the card is a re-visit. They're advertising each match as a repeat. 'Come watch Benoit/Eddie again', 'here's Tanaka versus Awesome again', 'hey, remember that cool match we did before...well, here it is again'. Okay, for one match, you could use past matches being good as a build. Absolutely. But an entire show? If it wasn't a reunion show, it'd be chalked up as lazy booking. 'Hey, you wanna watch Tanaka/Awesome again?' 'Sure, le me just find the tape...' 'No, don't worry, let us age them a few years and re-hash the match for you'. I don't see Eddie/Benoit bettering their matches in Japan. Tanaka and Awesome are strongly unlikely to top their previous matches. Crazy isn't the same as he once was, so the triple threat is doubtful, although the ending to the original wasn't great. Ditto Psicosis. Dudleys/Dreamer+Sandman lacks any passion behind it because there's no storyline like the original. It's like a sequel to a film...if it worked before, why not again? Doesn't always work like that though.

Daniels was getting hot reactions when he first turned and he got a very good reaction at the Midlo show. I wouldn't say he was 'bland', personally. He doesn't work best as a face though. Then again, it's all down to personal opinion I guess. Seeing as Punk put him over strong, I don't see why Delirious couldn't go on to the HV Title now.

Looking to get into Ring of Honor
King Cucaracha replied to art_vandelay's topic in General Wrestling
Actually, I agree with Jingus. Watching IWA shows, Prazak strays off topic sometimes and gets a little goofy. But he does get away with it because most of the time he doesn't take away from the situation. He does tend to be serious when it's REALLY needed, 95% of the time. Besides that, IWA isn't really a 'dead serious' fed all the time anyway. Punk is okay in small doses. He does tend to no sell people/things sometimes and he's obviously an opinionated guy. Prazak/Kingston works, because Kingston is probably one of the better color guys out there. He's funny enough, he knows his stuff, he puts people over, he remembers past storylines involving him when it's relevant (ie: not instantly liking Hero because he's a heel). Larry Sweeney's decent with Prazak too, although better with Kingston. Bryce Remsburg works well with Prazak as well. -
Spanish football is like that with the over-reaction to tackles regularly enough for it not to cause much of a storm. Part of what makes Spanish football such fun to watch. It's much more open than Premiership football, usually, as well. Anyone see in one of the papers yesterday, where Glazer wants the Buccs to play one NFL game a season at Old Trafford to try and build some interest in the game over here? That would be funny as hell. Especially when hardly anyone turns up.
