"A Blaffiar to Blackmember". After watching all of Season 1 and 2 on DVD after Christmas, I've determined I really, really enjoy 30 Rock.
-
For this year's viewing of the show (which is only the 2nd annual viewing of the show, probably only the second time since 1996 or so), I really tried to pay attention to everything that is wrong with the Rumble match itself. As I think I said above, it was last year's viewing that it hit me the Rumble match isn't good at all - I used to think it was fine when I was younger, but it is quite clearly not. 1. The roster. As a devoted fan in 1995, I didn't REALLY notice how bad the situation was, but HBK and Bulldog at #1 and #2 are two of the biggest names in the entire thing. Lex Luger comes is the 3rd biggest name in there, sadly (I believe after several jobs to the Million Dollar Corporation while Bulldog had been well proctected since his summer 94 return, he was a bit higher up the card, though they were practically equals). Sadly, I determined that Adam Bomb was the 4th highest legitimate "chance to win" star in there, but maybe that's because I was an Adam Bomb mark. Vince was pushing Crush as a likely winner but the very existence of Evil Japanese Crush in 1995 seems like an anachronism to me. It's funny watching the beginning of the show to see the roster lined up to hit on Pam - the FRONTLINE ROSTER is The Bushwacker, Well Dunn (WELL FRIGGIN DUNN), and Heavenly Bodies. 2. Nothing Happens - Part 1: The 60 second intervals are a total match killer. I can see WHY they would think the concept of making it the "fasted paced Royal Rumble in history" could be a good idea, but all it means is people come in at a rapid pace, nothing happens, and there are no well booked "Rumble moment" spots. Lots of people just entering and being tossed for no reason. The highlight - and think about this one - is Lex Luger coming in after Shawn and Bulldog cleaned house and eliminated a bunch of jobbers that piled up due to someone new entering every 60 seconds. He gets a good pop too. And what a waste this was of Rick Martel (who I also consider existing in 1995 WWF an anachronism - wikipedia says it was some last minute one shot to replace Neidhart). Also, Bulldog acts like his typical "Battle Royal Idiot" self by lifting up Shawn several times and purposely throwing him back to the mat. Someone else does this too but I forget who. 3. Nothing Happens - Part 2: Because it only takes 28 minutes (possibly less) for all 30 guys to enter the match, the match continues for another 10 minutes or so (it's listed as being 38 minutes long). Fine, great - the 2007 Rumble is largely great for the final 10 minutes between Taker and Michaels. This is a REALLY dull 10 minutes with Mantaur and Henry Godwin - who makes it to the final four, though they even screw that spot up by making it a "Final Five" spot - and such battling it out until they all get eliminated in unspectacular fashion. I still like the undercard, but yeesh, what a bad Rumble match.

Byron, you're a fucking douche...

I had fun. -
The Dead Space movie was on TV here a few days ago. I watched a bit of it, then watched something else.
-
Well we had over 50 votes last round and my rough count has has at 40 now, so yeah, woo 11 voters EHME! You can do it!

You know who isn't a bitch? Antwon Mitchell. VOTE FOR THIS MAN in round 2. -
Co-ub, Smew-z, and pee-bone. That's my take.
-
2009teal2.jpg Region: 1. DrVenkman - The polite thing to do would be give Dandy a return vote, but I think this match will be closer than he thinks. 5. EHME - I realize we were at odds at the beginning of 2008, but somewhere in there I realized there was no reason to be. He still thinks there is, so here's an olive branch of a vote. Also, I'd rather face him in round 3 than Inc. 7. Cheech - Byron either strongly dislikes me or has a large soft spot (possibly hard spot) for Angle-plex. My large victory in round 1 seems to have offended him. That's besides the point - Cheech is Tremendous! 6. Ortonsault - I could have voted either way, and I'm glad Slayer can still be in such high standing with a very subdued 2008, but I'd feel like I was betraying Ortonsault with a vote against him after his comment for voting for me. 2009blue2.jpg Region: 1. Kinetic - He seems like he's patronizing me. Or very disturbed. But, very funny and will do very well in this year's tourney. 5. Chris - Nothing personal Matt, but I have to back the homeland / former POTY Tournament opponent in this round. 2. Mellow - I don't want this guy getting too sure of himself and bang a great tournament performance out of nowhere or we'll have another DrVenkman on our hands, so look for a vote against him in Round 3, because he should make it that far. Also, I'll probably still vote for him in Round 3. 6. Fazzle - A funny thing about this year's DrVenkman POTY Voting is it's the first year I've had sigs/avatars turned off for almost the entire year. I still assumed fazzle was rolling with the La Parka sig. 2009purple2.jpg Region: 1. KOAB - One of TSM's cool kids that's still into sports entertainment. That's a plus in my books. This entire bracket is KOAB's for the taking. 5. Mattdottcom - I like Smues. I really do. And had his cable company offered 24/7 before Matt's did, I might be able to justify voting for Smues over Matt as a member of the 24/7 Crew 2008. But that's my justification for voting Matt over Smues. 2. Kamala - Is this Kamala's year for a dream run? I guess that depends on how far he wants to go, but I'm backing him until at least Round 3. Maybe even beyond! 6. Agent - Mod battle! Agent vs. Battlenuts in a Wedding dress was a fun end of the year feud. 2009copper2.jpg Region: 8. CG - I like Kreese. If he wins here, I'm sure I'll be voting for him in Round 3. But in the early rounds, National Pride plays a big part, plus - unless I'm completely confused - I think he, much like C-Chris, is a former POTY opponent of mine. It was a real close match, too (unless I'm again confused with Chris). 4. treble - I'm glad Lushus is rallying for my victory here, so I'll abide by his wishes and not vote for him. I get to vote for another Canadian this way too. 7. 909 - Mr. POTY 2008 didn't vote in the first round! Posters of the Year shouldn't miss the vote, but I'm happy he voted (and for me!) this round. 3. VX - The possibility of a VX vs. Milky Round 3 match-up is pretty intriguing. Both guys are running wild, so how will TSM vote in that? I can't wait to find out.

Dumb Facebook/MySpace status updates...

It was huge when they removed "is" being mandatory. HUGE, I tell ya. Now I can "thinks" instead of "is thinking". -
Since I seem to live a week in the future now, I have to comment in advance that the Jericho/Regal match from Backlash 2001 has some of the best scratch logo blurring I've seen. If this is how post Mania XIV Raw episodes will look on 24/7, excellent. Obviously the larger WWF logos on the ring apron have fairly large and obvious blurs, but the turnbuckles alternate between not blurred at all to just blurred enough that they're JUST managing they're court mandated blurring orders. Recent DVD efforts have been like this too, except I've noticed that if the match has close up action shots around the turnbuckles, the blur becomes visible on top of the wrestlers. Nothing like that was found here. Also, they didn't change the WWF in Regal's Commissioner title.

I'm not going to lie, I just pre-ordered the DVD. -

The "Vent about not having Program X on 24/7" Thread
DrVenkman PhD replied to EVIL~! alkeiper's topic in WWE Multimedia
Woo. Edit: Ok, now I have next week's Raw and Nitro as well as next week's Shorties. I won't hold my breathe for getting the episodes that should actually be there and I'm just happy I have content. However, they did put up the Lawler HOF profile and that is part of last week's update, so we'll see. -

Kane needs to be in the Rumble so Glenn Jacobs can be in his 27th Rumble in a row.

I recently turned a thread intended for serious discussion into several people doing the rap lyrics to the "Nation of Domination" theme. This is my ace in the hole for round 2.

The "Vent about not having Program X on 24/7" Thread
DrVenkman PhD replied to EVIL~! alkeiper's topic in WWE Multimedia
I sent the angriest of angry e-mails when I got home from work this morning (you know it's angry when it includes demands for partial refunds for a full week of paying for no content and cancellation of the service) and in waking up for a few minutes discovered the system works - I now have HOF: Jerry Lawler! Edit: And now they've put up the 1998 Royal Rumble. This is so wacky. -
Ruining his thread. The ensuing thread was awesome.

I just want to hear the real estate company try and sell the house. Ned Flanders: Oh, my-diddly-eye! Will you look at this place. And the price has been slashed repeatedly. Maude Flanders: It's sure built solid. The kids could scream bloody murder and no one would hear. Ned Flanders: Well, I'm just going to spill my guts. I love it to death. I'm going to give you a deposit this minute.

He would probably say it's not his fault. It's been said before, but when he's assigned to do commentary and he just comments on what he sees and tries to insert some humour, he's great. A great example of this was the "Showdown at Shea" commentary he did with Foley for WWE 24/7. His commentary with Tazz on the 2002 "Global Warning" DVD from Australia is pretty good too.

Based on how it was obviously booked for the #1 / #2 storyline, I doubt this is the case, but I do have to wonder if the one minute intervals were booked based on the 1994 Rumble. That was the first 90 second interval Rumble and it wasn't advertised as such - they said it was cut down for "time constraints" and Vince felt this would make it the MOST EXCITING RUMBLE EVER! Hence, his logic would be one minute would make it even MORE exciting. Just a theory.

Why do people spoiler tag anything (not including spoilers)? Why do people make you scroll down for ages just to read one word? Why do people quote other people and add nothing else? These things must end, and under my rule as POTY 2009, they will, so vote for me! On a more serious note, I quite enjoy this site / discussion forum - www.digitalhome.ca It's a bit off putting that they have some expert advice telling you to watch 4:3 programming in 16:9, but they are right in the context of why they said it (preventing screen burn-in, which I became a victim of within 3 months of watching shows in their proper aspect ratio). Also lots of cable talk for Canadians. Complaining too!

I actually prefer hard copy articles about video games too, but the problem became that I work in front of a computer for 8 hours and find it easier to pay attention to my actual job if my reading is limited to online webpages and not my head looking down at a magazine. I don't really read books in my spare time either. My only real "hard copy" reading time is waiting for / riding a bus, but since I stopped working at a location that was a 1 hour bus commute and am back at 15-25 minutes, there's not much magazine reading time in there.
