Black Friday 2008/Holiday Video Game Deals
Rendclaw replied to YourKock'sReallyGreat's topic in Video Games
Yep. Shockingly we had a well organised BF, the peeps even walked in when we opened. I pretty much spent the better part of 16 hours ringing up since I am a store vet and all. Saturday was still busy. Damn working retail makes you dislike Christmas. Our deals were pretty lame so I got no games (we weren't allowed to buy stuff on Fri anyhow) All I wound up getting was House Season 2 dvd for 14.99 on Sat, since it was the only season I hadn't got yet. I need a real job stat, I'm getting too old for this BS. I haven;t worked retail in like seven or eight years, and I *still* hate Christmas. It never goes away. Ever. That's great to know Get out while you;re still young and you don;t hate Christmas as much. -

The whole series is dumbed down, even though I understand why they took some things in different directions. I got through maybe 3/4 of the first book, where I had to stop before I flung the book at the wall as hard as I could. There are not many authors who can write books from a first-oerson perspective, and do it well. Charlaine Harris cannot. The first book is extremely annoying.

And just when I consider deleting my account because of boredom with the aforementioned simian feces-slinging, I read something like this.

Yeah, that was definitely a dickish moment with Frank... Up until then I liked him, but he lost a couple of points with me... And seriously, the overabundance of pranks is really tiresome. Straight up ridiculous.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0Qr5b2mzxg A first class beat down indeed. Though the music the guy who uploaded this selected made me laugh while wincing at the murderlizing BJ was dishing out. Yikes.

There is more to this. Billups saw the writing on the wall as far as Stuckey being the future starting point guard for the Pistons. Billups and his agent went to Joe and asked to be traded to Denver if he was going to be traded at all. He's from there, he wanted to be close to his ailing mother, and if he couldn;t finish his career as a Piston, he wanted to go home to Denver. Getting Iverson is a good trade from the aspect that he is a guard that is completely unafraid to take the ball to the hole, unlike Chauncey who is bigger and stronger than AI. I (along with the Piston fans here) could count a number of times just in the past year where he could take a smaller guard right down to the block and score on him and he wouldn;t, preferring to shoot threes with the clock winding down. The Pistons lose something defensively for sure, but I think this makes them a tougher team. This might be the shot in the arm that the rest of the team needs. If McDyess get bought out and doesn;t get picked up by another team, you can bet he is coming back to Detroit. I'm looking forward to their next game with AI, just to see what happens.

Agreed. That was an excellent piece, and Lesnar is a dick at times. Brutally honest at others, but he can be a rather large penis as well.

The Big Mac section was very funny. Paintball with frozen balls?? Damn. I know I am stating the oh-so-obvious, but it does *not* suck to be Anderson Silva.

How many fights of Bisping have you seen? Did you even watch his last two fights before the Leben fight? Leben is a top 10-15 caliber fighter on a great night, and is known for having a big chin. It would be stupid if he fought Leben the same way he did against Jason Day, as Leben is a different fighter then he is, and can end the match at any moment. He's a fighter, and he came in with the right gameplan to WIN his fight and move up in the ladder in the middleweight division. You can't bash fighters for wanting to win their bouts and not playing into the strengths of their opponet, thats fucking retarded. Bisping knows he doesn't have even pop in his punches to hurt Leben, so why even try to finish him off throwing haymakers when there is a great possibility he can get rocked by one of Leben's haymakers? Leben didn't bash Bisping for his performance or his gameplan, EVERYONE EXPECTED BISPING TO FIGHT LIKE THIS. Anderson Silva backed up and countered Leben as well, but he was able to rock Leben, because A) He has more power in his punches, and B) He's a better striker then Bisping. Bisping had a lot riding on this fight, and it would be stupid if his trainer to not prepare that type of gameplan for Bisping. The Leben of a year ago might have gone ahead and bashed him for jabbing and running. Obviously Chris is a different person now, and he was a good soldier in saying what he did post-fight. Silva backed up and countered, Bisping did not. Jab, score point, run away. That is how I saw the fight. You saw different, don;t waste your keystrokes trying to change my mind. You would be wasting your time. I am not arguing about his gameplan in that he should have done something that would have gotten him knocked out, but considering Bisping's last couple of fights (and yes I saw them), but what I am saying is that this is not something I want to see in MMA. I'm not looking for two guys standing and throwing punches and kicks at each other with no concept of movement or defense, but the last thing I want to see is a fighter in any sport; boxing, MMA, whatever, land a point scoring punch and then spend fifteen to twenty seconds staying way out of the reach of the other fighter. Defensive fighting is different to my view, in that a fighter is moving around to set up his own offense, providing a harder target to hit and countering when the opponent is on the attack. Bisping was not doing that at all to my view, and I certainly hope that this is not the trend in the way to win fights.

Hawk pretty much said what I wanted to say without the Machida comments. I don't know enough about Machida to comment about him or have seen his fights, but I have seen enough fights to know when someone is counter-fighting and when someone is doing just enough to win by points and running away before he gets his block knocked off, and that's what Bisping was doing. B-o-r-i-n-g. In a little bit of an ironic twist, the Ali-Liston fight is on ESPN Classic while I am posting this. Ali was sticking and moving, looking to frustrate Liston into a mistake that he could take advantage of, and that is exactly what happened. Ali knew he couldn;t match Liston's punching power, even though Ali had a pretty solid punch back in the day. Ali wasn;t looking to hit and run. I'm watching round 3 right now, and Ali came out and tagged Liston repeatedly with punches and actually hurt Liston. My point is that Bisping wasn;t looking to wear Leben down in that fight, or to take him down and try and neutralize Leben's striking power. He was looking to win by decision and whats worse, he said it in the post-fight interview with Rogan, which was one hell of an indictment against him.
-
If Vera was a smidgen more aggressive he might have won that decision. There were points in the fight where he just stood there and pretty much dared Jardine to come to him, waiting for him. I have to agree with Hawk about the Bisping fight. If this is how he is going to win fights, Bisping has no future on this side of the pond. I am not saying that he has to stand and bang, or always try to choke out or submit guys, but what he does is not what I really want to see in MMA. He fights MMA like Floyd Mayweather fights in boxing, and I don't like seeing *that* either. Land jab, score point, evade. Circle, circle, circle. Yawn. I'm not worried about Bisping becoming a threat or making any significant noise (especially considering who is champion right now; Anderson is faster than he is and would quite frankly destroy Bisping), because he is going to run into a guy who can move just as well as he does who can cut off Bisping's avenues of escape and force him out of that weak ass gameplan. Chris is a banger so that immediately was a clash of styles and not a good one in regard to Bisping. But considering Chris was a replacement, beggars can't be choosers, right? The Lytle fight was very entertaining, despite the fact that my girlfriend and I were arguing throughout most of it. And Davis impressed me as well.

Seriously, fuck having characters. This isn't WWE. I understand the need to have these guys show a little personality, but as was said before, Leben set the extremely high and Junie just leaped over it. And to think that I was digging this season because for once its not all about the coaches and their rivalry or issues that spring up during the season... I just want to see who the coaches can get these guys to listen to them and actually determine who the better fighter is out of the 8 LWs and LHWs. I seriously despise those guys who get picked just because they can act like an idiot in an attempt to get face time. Watching Junie break shit and try and pull people in the pool is not being a character, its just being stupid. I am seriously hoping that he gets thrown off.
-
Yeah, its patently obvious they all wanted Junie off the show. I think the only reason why Dana didn't kick his ass out after the first or second incident is because the kid has talent. Talent that can be used. But all the talent in the world means nothing if you cannot control yourself. If I was Dana, he would have been gone after the second incident. He would not have been around to jump in the octagon to go after Nog and Efraim.

Seth was right, it was a shitty situation for both fighters. It already looks bad that Ken was stupid enough to get injured... or smart enough, depending on what you might think. There was no way that Kimbo wasn't going to pussy out on that fight, even though some fighters would have. Maybe he should have, but coulda, woulda, shoulda. The next step for Kimbo is to start from scratch and develop defense, never mind a ground game. You can't just wade in punching because you will get caught. My first reaction about the TKO was that he either got caught or poked in the eye, because no one drops that fast unless one or the other happens. Seth hit him right on the button with that short punch. Kimbo needs to be a fighter, not a brawler. He may have knockout power in both hands and a solid chin, but if you get caught in the right way at the right time, that's it for you. But that overhyping of the win by Seth just made me sick. Its not like he KTFO'ed Fedor, for gods' sake.

The unis will change within five to seven years to something more acceptable to you guys.

Yeah, this is an obvious "strike while the iron is hot" cash grab by Dana, but the thing is that everyone is going to see it. If it was up to me I would have waited another six months, but that's a big risk because of Randy's age. At the same time, Brock is not ready yet. I can see Randy eating a few shots from Brock and then shocking the world by knocking him out somehow or submitting him. Brock's eagerness and inexperience can most definitely be used against him, but you have to overcomes his power and wrestling skill to do it. Frank Mir was the perfect counterfoil to Brock, and that panned out in 90 seconds. I watched the replay last night, and I had to laugh. We all got shocked by Brock's speed and power, but his inexperience cost him big time.

Of course the Fords should take the blame. And before you start heralding Ford Jr. as the savior of the Lions, you should take a good look at how Ford Motor Company is doing. This is one step in the right direction after so many steps in the wrong direction for the Lions. This team has provided me with a constant source of amusement since 1993, when my roommate revealed herself to be a huge Lions fan. That mirth has increased exponentially since I moved up here and listening to the overwhelming majority of Detroit fans on the radio eat the cornbread that the Fords have been serving... they get angrier and angrier with each loss during the season, building to a crescendo as they go with double digit losses for the season, with them swearing off the team at the end, only to get fired up again for the upcoming draft, watch them get pissed off (the level is only behind Jets and Eagles fans) when the team drafts the wrong players and goes for flash (wide receivers) instead of substance (offensive and defensive line), and then grumbles through the spring months, only to get right back in line for tickets once training camp starts. Its the funniest thing I have ever seen in my 39 years of existence. The only thing is that I have seen more and more people in the last two or three years swear off the Lions and mean it because of the overwhelming level of ineptitude in the front office. For the sake of the city and nothing else, I hope and pray things get better.

Epcot center is about ten years behind the times... go, if only to say that you were there. I'm just happy that Sci-Fi City is still in business.

I thought that run play on 3rd and 6 was going to come back to haunt Michigan, and it almost, ALMOST did. Rodriguez dodged a major bullet. Fuck that, he dodged several. If they make that first down the game was over, but RichRod decided to play it safe. Those are the kind of plays that make a football team better if they make them. I know he has a young team and over half his players are wrong for the system he is establishing, but to line up in the I formation and run it up the middle for two yards or so when if the first down is converted you lock up the game AND you give your team a much-needed shot of confidence. There was no indication that the offense could not convert that 3rd and 6. Rodriguez already has a little case of Carr-itis, in playing not to lose. He got very lucky not once, not twice, but three times in the final 20 or 30 seconds. Wisconsion marched right down the field on Michigan at the end of that game.

The US Economy and Current Financial Crisis
Rendclaw replied to Cheech Tremendous's topic in Current Events
I know my money is insured by the FDIC, but I am seriously considering pulling my account, anyway. -
I'm on FT. I used to be on Stars, but when I saw three royal flushes in the same tournament, I deduced there was something wrong with their randomizer, and I am on FT exclusively now. I used to be on Doyle's Room but I can;t get the program to work right, and I used to play on Chanpoker before it went under. I'm on under this name, though I am currently taking a break. I was in the process of honing my game to where I would and could play for money.
