  1. I took my last final tonight. I'm done. Its over. I officially get my fucking Master's in a few weeks, and hopefully I don't have to wait for my pay raise.
  2. I swear I'm not asking this to be a dick. Can someone please explain why I'd want to watch this show? It looks both interesting and bad at the saem time. I'm mildly curious, and want to know why I should give it a chance.
  3. I think Bob was trying out his brand of ironic sarcasm again. Not as funny as the running Lance Armstrong gag.
  4. But that's the point. It was advertised as being about how Columbine occurred and why there aren't school shootings in other nations, and then switched halfway into some crazy rant about gun control that didn't solve the issue at hand. Or was Moore trying to say that Columbine occurred not because the two kids were legitimate psychopaths but because of racism via lame-ass flash cartoon? I'm still trying to figure out the message of the film, because it starts off so damn well...but then Moore goes on some tear-jerking tangent about some 6-year-old that got shot because a classmate brought a gun to school, and it all goes fucking nuts until Charlton Heston walks out of his interview due to Moore just being a prick. I think Moore's final point was that the news media makes people edgy and paranoid, and more likely to be violent. That point was somewhat negated by his earlier point that our entertainment media doesn't make people violent, but its our violent history. That point is negated by his comparisons to Germany's violent history and how there society isn't very violent, but they have gun control. That point about gun control was negated by his pointing out that Canada's gun control isn't any different than ours, but they have a different news media. In short, Moore spends the entire film confusing the issue without ever comng to any real conclusion, but winning praise for being topical and irreverent.
  5. My comment was more of a criticism of pro-socialist dogma than the individual reforms particular to this instance. Economic reform, like democracy, should probably come from within a country and not be imposed, in order for it to work.
  6. I describe the new Blue Beetle this way: This is the comic book I wanted to grow up to create myself when I was a kid.
  7. The media outlets that cover the music industry are largely ignored by pretty much anyone over 25. Just one of the many joys of getting older.
  8. Yeah, because Western style capitalism that was imposed was doing so much better for them. I'm sure Nicaragua can attest to that. And socialism has done wonders for...no where.
  9. Humphrey was the early favorite, before the voting actually started. He wasn't an official candidate until Carter had the nomination sewn up. I mean, you also had guys like Scoop Jackson and Lloyd Bentsen, but they're campaigns didn't go anywhere. Humphrey was the most popular name floating around in 74 and 75 before anyone knew who Carter was, i.e. like Hillary is now, Cuomo was in 92, and Hart was in 88. The unofficial "anti-Carter" candidate was Jerry Brown.
  10. From the "Please, God, No" file... Hillary Clinton discussing presidential bid LOLZ I guess its just a question of who the anti-Hillary faction (i.e. people who can see outside the confines of liberal group-think) decides to rally around. Obama would be the obvious choice, but I can't wrap my head around both of them running. Hillary Clinton thinks she's Bobby Kennedy, but she's actually Ted.
  11. Here is the rundown: The Guardians nervously talk about sector 3601 and the "52" The Green Lantern rings are afraid of the Blue Beetle and begin to act up around him. See IC#6 and Blue Beetle #1 The "M" thingie on Blue Beetle's chest forms a 52 To elaborate...The new Blue Beetle was fighting Guy Gardner in the first issue of "Blue Beetle". The new Beetle had no idea why they were fighting, nor did he know why he couldn't remember the last year of his life. LF, the story you're missing really hasn't been told yet, but will in the coming issues of "Blue Beetle" and "52."

I'm not so sure since I moved last year, but I'm thinking I live in a Time-Warner area.

I don't know if they look as good as digital cable, but they look better than analogue cable. The reason I wn't go back to cable (and Rant already once explained why they do this) is because the lower-tier cable channels aren't digital. I wouldn't care if it wasn't for the fact that I like to watch the Sci-Fi Channel and Comedy Central, and those looked super-snowy. I signed a 2 year contract when I got my DirecTV HD, so I'm stuck until they get their satelitte's launched anyways. I basically let them screw me because they lied and said I'd be able to get the broadcast networks through the East or West Coast affiliates, but then everyone but my local Fox affiliate declined my waiver. The antennae they put on my house to pick up local affiliates only gets about 4 local HD channels.
  14. My birthday was 3 days before Black Friday... "Apcalypse Now" the Complete Dossier "West Wing" Season 7 "Sports Night" the Complete Series "Smallville" Seasons 1-4 "History of the WWE Championship" "The Daily Show Presents Indecision 2004" "Underworld Evolution" "X3: the Last Stand" "Alexandra Pelosi's Journeys with George" "Superman II: the Donner Cut" "Supergirl" "Superman Returns"
  15. Webb said, "That's between me and my boy." LET'S FUCKING EXPEL HIM FROM CONGRESS RIGHT NOW!!!!! I don't think either man was being really rude. Bush was trying to make nice (albeit to the point that he was almost being pushy), and Webb didn't want to talk about his son. The only person I can't honestly say was being a total dick about it was George Will and some other media operative that want to spin this into a big deal, who weren't even there. I'm not sure who started the version of the story that Webb said he wanted to "slug" Bush.
  16. The new song is also pretty good, IMHO. I think the worst song was either "Die Another Day" or "The Living Daylights".
  17. I think that smell's formaldehyde.

Im not wrong here though. He said "well it is a CRT TV which is the best kind of HDTV". Generally, projection sets, even if they technically are CRTs, are not considered the best kind of HDTV due to the odd viewing angles and such. Regular flat screen CRT HDTVs are still considered the best for picture quality (most notably better black color than any other option) despite the fact that they are about 50 times larger and 1/3 to 1/2 cheaper or more for comparitive options. "Mole..really..do you know the difference between CRT and Projection..it doesnt seem like it." He may have been talking about the wrong kind of CRT, but you were wrong for insisting that the TV in question was not a CRT. I'm curious about this as well.

  20. A lot of people, myself included, had never even heard of Kanye before Katrina.
  21. Here's some candidate news... Kerry assessing impact of 'botched joke' on '08 prospects Like 2 years ago, Kerry is the last one to realize he's in trouble. Vilsack blasts McCain's call for more troops in Iraq I'm not sure what foriegn policy credibility Vilsack brings to the table, but his plan is interesting. Officials: Bayh to take first step in 2008 bid next week I'll reassess his chances of actually getting the nomination once we get a firm answer from Hillary and Obama. There's different combinations of candidates that will get different outcomes as to who the nominee will, and there's no absolute as to who could just roll in and crush everyone. Edwards, Bayh, Obama, Hillary are the contenders, and all have their own strengths and weaknesses. Biden, Dodd, Vilsack, and Kerry would be better off just staying home. The Democrats almost never nominate the early frontunner in non-incumbent primaries (Humphrey in 76, Hart in 88, Cuomo in 92). On the Republican side, its a 2 man race. Usually the GOP goes with the early frontrunner, but both McCain and Guiliani have equal claim to that title. They'll crowd out every other candidate in the field, with Brownback and Romney jockeying to get enough attention to get the VP slot. Pataki probably won't run if Guiliani's running. The odds are against Bill Owens and Mike Huckabee running as well. There's different combinations of who can beat who in the general election, with Guiliani having the best chances of any of the 16 people I've mentioned. If I had to pull 2 tickets out of my ass this minute based purely on likelihood, I'd say McCain/Romney and Hillary/Bayh. Which, of course, means it probably won't happen. There's still a remote chance Hillary won't run, the Republican see reason and nominate Guilinai, or Al Gore gets into the race.
  22. Oh...snap.
  23. I want to wear one of these t-shirts to work.
  24. When I was still watching wreslting, I'd often record the broadcast on a DVDRW, and then transfer the 15-30 minutes of the show I was interested in keeping onto a VHS tape. Not the best system, but I actually prefer the picture quality of a VHS in SLP/6 hour record to the picture quality of a DVDR in SLP/6 hour record. I have a cabinet full of VHS tapes which I am planning on going through and figuring out what to discard when I have the free time next summer. Thanks to affordable releases of my favorite shows on DVD, I have already eliminate dozens of VHS tapes from my collection. right, I am planning on getting a dvd recorder, and if I was home to tape the shows I could record it in either the 1 hour or 2 hour mode (depending on legnth) i assuming you can pause a recording to cut the commericials right? but if I was out id have to use the cheaper mode I suppose on RAW and sd I really need to stop taping shows. I did when I didnt have avcr from the begin of this year thru october, but now Ive got one and this bad habit continues. I mean its not like Ill ever watch these tapes, unless something memorable happened on one of em. Pausing is not a problem. With a normal TV transmission, there's really no point in using the 1 hour mode, because the 2 hour mode captures the standard image quality just fine.
