The NFC is just a mess right now. If Carolina were to somehow lose to Philly, you'd have both of the wild card teams at 6-6, with two other 6-6 teams and three 5-7 teams giving chase. Even if they win, you've still got six teams at 6-6 or 5-7 fighting for the last playoff spot.

I don't think that's true. If there was an independent out there that could go 25-3 or something like that, they'd probably get a look from the committee for a bid, especially if they had a marquee win as big as Marquette. It's just that most independents tend to go 6-20 or so, and never even get a second thought. Next season, NDSU joins the Mid-Continent Conference, which they should dominate.
