Pre-Season College Basketball Discussion 2007-08
Danville_Wrestling replied to Nate's topic in Sports
Well the ESPN ticker says Florida got 26 votes but they are unranked. The SEC writers and AP guys voted them to finish 3rd in the SEC East behind Tennessee and Kentucky this year. -
I definitely agree that the times of the games are getting outrageous, especially earlier with the NLCS games starting at 10 EST but that was acceptable because both teams playing were in the Mountain/Pacific time zone area. I understand that the people on the West coast don't want to miss games but then everyone else in the country suffers by having to stay up really late when they have work to go to in the morning. I agree that it would help to decrease commercial breaks (but we all know that change isn't going to happen) and start the game PROMPTLY when its on the air. I agree with al that it is ridiculous that they do nothing for 30 minutes before game time. I don't really care to see the Star Bangled Banner sung every single night and hearing Joe Buck say a whole lot of nothing doesn't appeal to me either. I shudder to think how late game 3 is going to do because Dice-K takes forever to pitch.

That is absolutely hilarious. Is this the same promotion that has the demon little girl? Because if so they need an American TV deal now. I forgot about the demon little girl. I died laughing when I saw that. I have that Andre-Abdullah match on a "Best of Abdullah the Butcher" tape from RF Video. Not a great tape but interesting match to have in the collection.

That is absolutely hilarious.

Most shocked you have ever been while watching wrestling

The whole Pillman-Austin gun angle. As a kid when that show went off the air I thought someone had gotten shot and died. Also, Shawn Michaels collapsing after Owen Hart's enzeguri was effective for me as a kid. I thought Shawn was going to be a vegetable after that and every time Owen did the enzeguri from that point on I thought it was going to end someone's career. -
There's one fed that I have occassionally been a part of for the last seven years: http://www.striketowers.com I had to quit recently because I lost the reliability of my internet connection. However, like some on this board, I just do it to do something and see what characters others come up with. Since the boom period died it seems that there aren't that many "e-wrestlers" out there.

IGN has a description of two of the game modes: tournament and the Hall of Fame feature. Nice to see that tournaments are finally back in the game. http://ps2.ign.com/articles/829/829095p1.html

Well this just wasn't my week...just like the real Vikings yesterday.

Another question from me about NHL 08 for anyone that has it: how long is the dynasty mode? I remember in 06 it was only ten seasons which was a little too short for my tastes. Just wanted to know if they expanded on it. Thanks. -
Thank god for Florida's late touchdown against UK which bumped up the combined score to 76 and giving me a win after the Seminoles blew the lead against Miami. That keeps my marginal bowl hopes alive and it's nice to actually win a tiebreaker after losing so many of them this year (the exception was the #2 tiebreaker win a few weeks ago). It'd be nice, though, if I could pick enough games right to where I didn't need the tiebreak.

Mine was in pitching machine (Little League for 5th grade): I scored from first on a single by the shortstop to score the winning run for my team in a 6-5 victory over our rival in a first round playoff game. We were the Mets that season and our opponents were the Marlins. We'd swept them earlier in the season 2 games to zero but we were the number 4 and 5 seeded teams in a 12 team league so it was one of those matchups. Coming into the game, my team was on a Rockies-type run of winning our last four games to make the winner's bracket playoffs and we had to play them. They scored at the top of the last inning to take a 5-4 lead. After getting one out on us early, a teammate singled to advance to first and then I singled to move him to third so we had rnners on the corner and on a 0-1 count a teammate who was a very mediocre hitter smacked a hard ground ball past the shortstop. I don't think I've ever run as fast again in my life as the runner at third scored and I figured I'd be stopping at third but I saw the go sign so just ran like hell. The catcher caught the ball a few feet before I came to the plate and I knew if I slid I'd be out so I just said "fuck this", lowered the shoulder (and I'm not a very big guy), and went all Pete Rose on the collision. Needless to say the ball flew way out of his glove and a bit shaken and on the ground I leaned over and smacked home plate with my hand and we won 6-5. The team was jumping up and down and on top of me and it was like the Braves when they won the 1991 NLCS over Pittsburgh. Probably the highlight of my baseball career just b/c we'd lost in the first round of the playoffs the year before and this was essentially the same group of guys. However, the glory was short-lived because we faces the #1 seeded Expos a few days later and lost 15-0. Still, a good memory because it was the only playoff game I ever won in baseball.

One of the things I always say about the Big East is that they hurt themselves by beating each other in a weird combination like you wrote about above. It's great from a "parity" perspective I suppose but it sucks when you want an undefeated team to emerge with a shot at the national title. Just look to the Louisville over West Virginia, Rutgers over Louisville, West Virginia over Rutgers combination that happened last season.

I just don't get a break, like the real UK team. First I got this week's #1 and now I get this week's #2. Let's pray that the football gods are kind to me this week because three of my four losses in this pick'em have been by one game and two of those weeks were lost on game ending drives/plays. THURSDAY Florida State at Wake Forest FRIDAY Hawaii at San Jose State SATURDAY Georgia Tech at Miami Purdue at Michigan Tennessee at Mississippi State LSU at Kentucky Wisconsin at Penn State Texas A&M at Texas Tech Connecticut at Virginia TCU at Stanford Missouri at Oklahoma Indiana at Michigan State Auburn at Arkansas Colorado at Kansas State Tiebreak #1: How many total points will be scored in the Missouri/Oklahoma game? 56 Tiebreak #2: How many passing yards will Kentucky's Andre Woodson have against LSU? 215

Well I couldn't win the close games this week and lose by one to fall to 2-4. I thought I made the right picks this week. Oh well.
-
Well it looks like this might end up as one controversial year with tons of one loss teams demanding a shot at the national title. All those people that want a playoff just might get their wish after this mess of a season ends.
-
Looks like I can get a win if Rutgers and Mizzou can pull off their games tonight. I could've already clinched but Georgia Tech and TCU lost close ones.
-
I haven't felt this excited about a game coming out in a long, long time. I feel as if I'm 10 years old all over again. When this thing hits the market is it going to be carried by the major retail chains or am I going to have to order it online?

I'm also interested in this. I'm thinking of trying 2K8, though, instead of EA Sports hockey genre and was wondering which hockey engine in better: EA or 2K? I've never bought a 2K hockey game, just EA (2001 and 2006). -
For this week I have a question for you fantasy players: would you start Javon Walker or Braylon Edwards at WR? I have Steve Smith in the other slot and he's definitely in because he does good against the Saints but what do you guys think of Walker-Edwards? I'm leaning to Edwards because he's scored more points this year than Walker but am unsure about the respective matchups this week.
