Why is ESPN not cutting to the end of this game?
-
Lloyd Carr is like 30 seconds away from being fired. I'm loving this.

Yea, I don't know what the experience will be like if I get the tickets. I imagine that it will be packed and I'll have to keep my mouth shut when there because I root for the Europeans over the United States each time the Ryder Cup is held (ditto for the Presidents Cup). However, I've never been to a major golf tournament in person so it's just to go for the experience of going and seeing some of the golfers in person. If my work schedule a year in advance had been good I would have just gotten tickets for the practice days because from what I've heard the European guys interact with the fans quite a bit during those and autograph golf balls and other items during the rounds.

Why didn't Croom just bench his quarterback for the second half? My roomate (who is black) was yelling @ the TV for some kind of change to be made but Mississippi State stuck with their guy. He doesn't understand the mentality of black head coaches to stick by their quarterbacks even when they are playing horribly.

Well I get to wait until November to find out if I won the random draw for Saturday tickets to the Ryder Cup @ Valhalla. I imagine that everyone wanted the Sunday tickets for the singles matches so I decided I'd rather go watch the four-ball and best-ball matches. I like that team brand of golf anyway. I agree that the FedEx thing is a bit of a joke. There really wasn't any drama last week in terms of who made the cut to 120 and who didn't. Granted that was probably because only 24 players got eliminated. This week might be more interesting with 50 getting cut. I do agree that the playoff system needs changed. I understand why there has to be a "reset" but it does seem unfair to me that Tiger's lead gets wittled down to nothing. I'm not even a big Tiger fan but he earned those points so he should be allowed to keep them. I just don't understand why they don't have a "real" playoff with a smaller field. I'd just start with 100 for the Barclays and all 100 golfers play 4 rounds. The top 70 golfers move on to the Deutsche Bank Championship the next week and play four rounds with the top 45 going to the BMW Championship. Then we have another 4 rounds @ the BMW with those 45 to cut it to the top 30 finishers at that tournament and the winner of the TOUR Championship wins the playoffs. To me that would create MUCH more drama and interest but the Tour probably believes that system is messed up because a really unknown guy could come in and win the TOUR Championship and kill the TV drama around Tiger and Phil. One of the most hilarious things about these playoffs is that when the final FedEx Cup payouts are given based on how players finished in the standings SIX players who DID NOT EVEN MAKE THE PLAYOFFS get paid like $32,000. Like wtf?!?!?! Why do players who were 145-150 in the standings get $$$$ for not even PLAYING in the playoffs? The PGA Tour has just really ticked me off as a fan this year. They moved all the early rounds to the Golf Channel so I can't really watch Tiger/Vijay/Phil play with each other today and tomorrow and I'll have to miss all the "Quest for the Card" tournaments. This was also a dumb move because ESPN doesn't give a crap about golf anymore w/highlights because they don't air it on their network. And for all the "buzz" that these playoffs were supposed to generate the only people who really seem to give a damn about them are me and CanadianGuitarist. But I digress....

Nice little listing of matches but I can't believe they didn't include the awesome Psicosis-Mysterio opener from Bash @ the Beach 1996. I love that match.

Vince and the WWE better hope one of those Congressman doesn't have the footage of HHH making fun of Chris Masters when he came back being less muscular than he was before and the issue of WWE Magazine where HHH commented that a thinner version of Bobby Lashley had been put into the dryer.

Whoever would have thought that Steve Stricker would be leading the playoff race after the first event when the season began? I'm glad he won last week, though. Pretty exciting duel between him and KJ.

The Van Daminator was always silly to me. It's like "oh wait, I have a chair! Let me hold it in front of my face and turn towards RVD."

It'll be interesting to see how good Mexico does with Richardson coaching them. They aren't in the pool that has the U.S. in it so they could be a factor later on. However, they aren't beating the U.S. even with Richardson's "40 minutes of hell"

Yea that was a really good match, I think it lasted over 16 minutes. SummerSlam '89 also had the fun Brainbusters-Hart Foundation opener and Warrior-Rude match that was 100x better than their WrestleMania V encounter. However, only the Warrior-Rude match surprised me on the undercard for being good because I knew the tag match and 6 man tag were going to be good.

I was just relieved yesterday that the Reds bullpen was able to go four innings without surrendering any runs to Atlanta in the 4-2 win. Only 9 1/2 back baby!

The OAO Thread For The Twentieth Annual SummerSlam Games

I still remember laughing hysterically last year when Booker was facing Batista and at a contract signing on Smackdown! when Batista told him something Booker got up in his face and yelled "BALDERDASH!" Booker totally OWNED Batista on the mic that night and it didn't look like Batista was taking it too kindly. Regretably, though, Booker is gonna lose to HHH this time which sucks since Booker has had to do the HBK thing when he feuded with Hogan in building the feud up himself. I swear, though, if HHH tries to do the Pedigree of infinite doom to Booker this time Booker should just kick out. -
That's exactly what I thought when I heard the news listening to Toronto-Oakland this afternoon.

WWE General Discussion for August 2007

If Benoit is a major figure in the storyline of the game I hope he doesn't have any cryptic lines or anything. It was weird enough that Eddie Guerrero had that Undertaker storyline in Smackdown v. Raw 2006. -
Minnesota is making Seattle their whipping boy early, scoring 7 runs in the first inning.

Thanks for posting the notes, pretty interesting stuff. Sounds to me like Booker has every reason to be pissed over not getting the development territory. It always seemed to me they wanted to put it in Florida to benefit friends/its a much more attraction location. It's ridiculous FCW didn't get AC until recently, must've been hell to train there. The WrestleMania card at the top looks pretty good right now. Edge vs. Undertaker should be very interesting from the standpoint that both are undefeated at the event in singles competition. Granted, Edge "lost" MITB last year but I bet the argument will be he had to get stretchered out so that is why he lost and it shouldn't count. A win over Undertaker could really solidify Edge's career so I wouldn't be surprised if they pulled the trigger on that one. The interesting thing about the card is that if Cena isn't in the main event where will he be? I'd love to see D-Lo back. I'm a big mark for him and loved the push he received in 1998 and 1999. He'd be a welcome addition on Smackdown! or another more wrestling oriented brand. It'd also suck for Dusty to leave the creative team but I understand his reasons for doing it. -
Yea, I've never understood those things either.

I've never understood in no disqualification matches why wrestlers break a submission hold when the other wrestler gets into the ropes. The perfect example of this was Survivor Series 1995 when Bret Hart had a figure-four locked on Diesel and Diesel gets to the ropes and Earl Hebner demands there be a break. Why should Bret have even broken the hold? I'd just keep it applied and break Diesel's leg if he won't submit because you can't get disqualified for not breaking the hold at the count of five.

I'd forsee any future war between China and Tibet as more of a guerilla campaign that would make China's hold of the territory intolerable. It would be interesting to see how the Chinese populace would react to a territoral war, though, due to recent economic growth and the seeming isolation of people in China's urban areas from the problems of the country's rural and far away places.

Anyone here going to enter the random drawing for tickets to the 2008 Ryder Cup in Louisville? I'm thinking about it since it might be the only time the Ryder Cup is in my home state which will be very exciting. Also, FedEx Cup playoffs start this week. Any predictions on who emerges victorious at the Barclays?

I'm glad someone else has Holliday in their sights too. I'm still holding out hopes for the Reds. Is it stupid? Probably yes but hell, with the way the NL Central is going we are only 9 1/2 back with about 38 or so games to go. It's better than being back by a double digit margin of games for the better part of the season. However, any hope I had of some miracle comeback was shattered by Atlanta today.

At the end of last season my friend and I made the prediction that after this coming season Vick wouldn't be playing for the Falcons and that they'd be drafting Brian Brohm to come in and run the offense. We also made the prediction that Vick would eventually be playing in Baltimore. Little did we know how quickly half of the first prediction has come to fruition. I'm not entirely convinced his NFL career is over. He's still a talented player and a team would be stupid not to want to have that talent on their team. Granted, it's a PR nightmare but if Vick issues a sincere apology I think America is forgiving enough to give him a second chance (however his despicable actions may render that invalid). If he never plays in the NFL again it's going to be interesting to see if he plays in the Arena league. I bet that'd spike their bad ESPN ratings.

WWE General Discussion for August 2007
Danville_Wrestling replied to DrVenkman PhD's topic in The WWE Folder
Yea I was shocked. The only person I remember seeing pin the Undertaker prior to that was Hulk Hogan. The WWF just really screwed that 1995 tournament up bad. It was pretty clear that HBK, Undertaker, and Razor (before he got injured) should've been semi-finalists. However, it was also clear HBK and Undertaker wouldn't both make the next round because face vs. face/heel vs. heel stuff wasn't in vogue then. I was also pissed that Bob Holly lost to the Roadie. I was a mark for "race car" Bob Holly and I don't really know why. I remember marking out when he was Intercontinental champ for like 5 minutes on the Action Zone before Tunney voided the title change and marking out again when he beat Mantaur in the qualifying match on Monday Night Raw (simply because as a kid I thought Mantaur was some unbeatable guy).
