The WGN announcers dogged him a little bit for misplaying Soriano's throw last night from left field. Speaking of passed balls, in this game Guillermo Rodriguez had to leave the game for dehydration which was messing with his vision and composure behind the plate. This was pretty apparent after he allowed passed balls on back-to-back batters which allowed Soriano to score from third. Soriano's sequence around the bags was interesting in the fifth because he got on after a walk by Cain, advanced to second on a passed ball when Theriot was batting on the first pitch of that at-bat, advanced to third on a wild pitch by Cain on a 3-2 count to Theriot, and then scored after the second passed ball during Ward's at-bat on a 1-1 count. Never seen anything like that happen before.

The Cubs are laying a severe beatdown on the Giants right now through 5 innings, leading 9-0 thanks to a 5 RBI performance so far by catcher Koyie Hill who I guess is feeling Jason Kendall breathing down his neck or something. Lou went ahead and pulled Zambrano after he threw 5 shutout innings because he just isn't needed with a lead that big.

Edge injured; out of action for undetermined length of time
Danville_Wrestling replied to Hunter's Torn Quad's topic in The WWE Folder
Well I'd definitely have Arquette as #1 since he was a celebrity with no wrestling experience. Khali at least went to wrestling school (and we know the story there) but a guy who chops and screams having the world title just seems so wrong to me. It's as if the WWF had put the strap on Giant Gonzalez in 1993. -

Would it be much of a stretch to say that the Great Khali is one of the most limited talents to hold a world championship in recent memory? -
I'm sure all these "changes" will lead to nothing because the people behind the fall of the ratings (poor creative team led by Steph) won't be blamed/dismissed. Instead, lets get rid of Michael Hayes who's actually done a decent job. I didn't think Hayes had any impact on RAW at all, though. I thought he was a Smackdown! guy.

Past the halfway point in the MLB season
Danville_Wrestling replied to Failed Bridge's topic in Sports
As a Reds fan I'd say pitching, but what else is new. We have Matt Belisle sitting on a 5.02 ERA in the starting rotation and a bullpen that's just been shredded this season. For example, you've got Mike Stanton (5.34 ERA), Todd Coffey (4.75 ERA), and Kirk Saarloos (6.58 ERA) throwing stuff that isn't too fancy out there. I expect some kind of sale by the Reds as we near the trade deadline. We keep getting Griffey rumors but as the trade deadline approaches I keep hearing fewer and fewer of them. I think Adam Dunn is probably gone, though. Might not hurt the Reds to also look into getting another catcher because Darren Ross has had declining numbers since he arrived in Cincinnati and this season is only batting .196 with an anemic .247 OBP. -
This could shape up in any number of ways. One, Vick plays during the year because this is his "first offense" while still having the trial over his head and the NFL is blasted for having a "double standard" on player conduct. Two, Vick is suspended due to the indictment and Atlanta has to try to find a good QB to replace him to have any chance during the year. Or three, Vick is suspended due to the indictment, the Falcons ownership gives him the boot, the Falcons proceed to suck this coming season earning the #1 pick in the draft, and then Bobby Petrino decides to draft his boy Brian Brohm #1 out of Louisville.

Yea that 1-0 game was pretty much a pitcher's duel. Tough loss for Garza to take as he went 7 innings and only surrendered three hits with the only run given up coming on an error by Bartlett in the 6th inning that put Inge on. Of course the Tigers deserved to win regardless as they were creating a lot of offensive action by having eight runners left on base versus the Twins four and had more viable scoring chances through most of the game (with the exception of the sixth when the Twins put two men on with one out and Mauer and Cuddyer proceeded to strike out).

I think the Blazers probably win the NBA title BUT since the Pacers took LA to 6 games it is not beyond the realm of possibility that the Pacers lose that series. Larry Bird was still coaching at the time (and doing a damn good job) so it would've been a fun series to watch. Here's one for the poker world: what if Sam Farha calls Chris Moneymaker's bluff in the 2003 World Series of Poker final table? I think Farha would've crushed Moneymaker from that point on and won the championship. Without Moneymaker winning the "poker boom" might have been more muted than it became but I think there still would have been some type of boom regardless.

Yea, the voiceover options have been crap. I don't really know why they were added in the first place other than to please young fans who are like "this video game system is so revolutionary! I can hear John Cena talk to me!" I already know that everyone on this board hates the inclusion of divas into the game. Trish was fine but when they take up 6-7 slots and other wrestlers get left out that is such crap. I didn't buy '07 but it really pissed me off in '06 when they had the divas in there for that "Pillow fight" mode or whatever in the hell it was. I agree that the CAW mode hasn't been good since HCTP. I missed having good generic themes that were in that game because I remember they had one for my Rick Martel CAW which was pretty cool.

Well the Angels surely let one slip away today. They had the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the ninth and were not able to convert and Mark Teixeira ended the game with a home run in the 11th. Nevermind the fact that they also could've won if they hadn't made two bone headed errors earlier in the game.
-
Speaking of the AL West, the Angels and Rangers are having a fun little game that is in extra innings. Jeret Weaver had a good outing (7 IP, 2 R, 0 ER, 4 H, 6 K, 2 BB, and 60 strikes on 96 pitches) ruined by Scott Shields in the eighth when he allowed two runs and blew a 4-2 lead. The two runs allowed by Weaver came on terrible miscues defensively by the Angels, one by Chone Figgins and one by Reggie Willits. However, Figgins did do a lot of offensive damage thus far with three steals breaking the Angels club record for steals. If the Angels win they probably gain another game over all the teams in the division and become the team with the best record in the American League due to Boston's 2-1 loss to Toronto today. It's currently two outs in the bottom of the 10th with a pitching change going on for the Rangers.
-
Your probably right. I thought the games would be later today than they were and nearly missed the Rangers-Angels game that I'm watching right now.

Matsuzaka picks up an ugly win, his eleventh of the season, tonight against Toronto where he surrendered three runs in the top of the 6th to blow a 4-1 lead. However, thanks to a Jason Varitek two run home run accompanied by three more runs by Julio Lugo, Coco Crisp, and Dustin Pedroia the Red Sox were able to re-establish an insurmountable lead in the bottom of that same inning. The 9-4 win keeps Boston ten games clear of the Yankees. Matsuzaka's line tonight: 6 IP, 4 ER, 2 K, 2 BB, 70 strikes on 110 pitches

Two years ago the then-named Cold Pizza simmed the 1994 baseball playoffs and found that the World Series came down to the New York Yankees and the Montreal Expos with the Expos winning in 6 games. I totally agree with alkeiper that the Phillies would have lost to the Blue Jays even with a pitching change in game 6 and even if they had won game 6 they would've lost game 7. Here's one I've always wondered: What if the Packers are able to stop the Eagles on 4th & long in the NFC divisional playoffs in 2004? The Packers looked to be hte hottest team going into the playoffs with a Brett Favre that was playing his heart out after the death of his father. I have to believe that if the Packers make that stop they have a chance to beat the Panthers and then play the Patriots. Does anyone here think that team might've won the Super Bowl?
-
Yea, definitely not going to happen since the last thing the Reds want is Griffey in the division. However, although I'm a Reds & Griffey fan I think he needs to get the hell out of Cincinnati. He's never been the same since he's arrived and a change of scenery would probably be good for him. I see Griffey being traded this year and maybe Adam Dunn too which would not bother me since I see Dunn as a "swing for the fences or nothing" type hitter.

Well it's certain that a Vikings-Broncos game would've been a helluva lot better than the Falcons-Broncos game we got instead for the Super Bowl. If you think about it a lot of changes might have happened if Gary Anderson had made that field goal and Minnesota won the NFC title (or hadn't fumbled near the end zone late in the game). First, Dennis Green would've become the first black coach to lead a team to the Super Bowl a little less than a decade before Tony Dungy and Lovie Smith were able to. Also, it might mean that Green is still coaching in Minnesota today as opposed to being remembered for last year's meltdown in Arizona with "crown their ass." Second, it would've further cemented Randall Cunningham's legacy and given him a chance to finally win a Super Bowl that always elluded him. My dad is a big Vikings fan and to this day he's still super pissed about that Falcons game. He talks about it as if someone died everytime he watches a Vikings game. I've got another "what if" from that '98 season, though: What if Steve Young doesn't get injured in the divisional game versus Atlanta? Do the 49ers manage to win and play Minnesota in the NFC title game? If they do win, do they beat Minnesota and play the Broncos instead?

Cubs leading the Astros 3-0 after the fourth thanks good baserunning and to a pair of errors by the Astros on one play. With the Cubs leading 1-0 after a sac fly by Jones that scored Cliff Floyd, Lamb threw a ball past Berkman at first which advanced DeRosa to third and got Soto to first and then Berkman threw a ball back to Lamb thinking that DeRosa was way off the bag (although DeRosa was clearly holding up) and the ball went way over Lamb's head and into the stands. This scored DeRosa and advanced Soto to third where he was subsequently knocked in by a Zambrano single to left field. Heading into the bottom of the fifth now and the Astros have only one hit.

Movie moments that gave/give you chills *Spoilers throughout*
Danville_Wrestling replied to Angle-plex's topic in Television & Film
The Natural: Final scene where Roy Hobbs hits the game winning three run homer off the lights in center right field. The awesome music by Randy Newman definitely gave me chills. The Quick and the Dead: One of my top 5 favorite films. I get chills when there is the duel between Herod and the Kid right before they draw. You pretty much know the Kid is screwed but the first time I saw this scene I was on the edge of my seat. For the Love of the Game: Kevin Costner film from the late 1990s I believe. I got major chills when he's in the ninth inning with two outs and throws the last pitch to attempt a perfect game in his last major league appearance. The Shawshank Redemption: The ending is classic. Arguably the best movie never to win the Oscar for Best Picture. The Wedding Singer: One of Adam Sandler's best films. I got chills in one of the last scenes where he sings to Drew Barrymore's character on the plane. -
Any recommendations on what the game of the night is going to be tonight? I'm trying to choose which one I want to see on MLB TV and am leaning towards Boston-Toronto but am unsure.

I'd take a crack at your other UK "what if's" cabbage but I'm not a big expert on the 1970s in terms of college basketball. I know the teams that won the title and who they had but don't know too many specifics about games, etc. so I'll not comment on those. I've got a big blue one of my own, though, and it might be too easy: What if Rick Pitino never left UK for Boston? Would UK still be the elite program it was in the 1990s today or would it still have slipped behind Florida, UCLA, etc. as it did under Tubby?
-
I was a young kid when the UK-Duke game went down in 1992 so I don't know much about the year in terms of college basketball. The biggest test would've been getting past Indiana in the final four moreso than the Fab 5. However, I think UK's squad beats Indiana in a close one and then Pitino outcoaches the Fab 5 to win his first national title. I was curious about this one, though, and went to whatifsports and simulated these matchups three times on a neutral site. UK and Indiana swapped victories in the first two games and then Kentucky smashed Indiana 100-84 in the third game. Also, UK demolished Michigan's squad all three times with the closest game being 65-59. As far as the 1997 title game goes, starting Derek Anderson would've changed the complexion of the title game. That game still pisses me off to this day because a healthy Anderson-led UK squad (assuming he had never injured his ACL) would've demolished Arizona, sports simulators repeat that result over and over again. Of course, UK could've still won that game if Nazi Mohammad had made just one or two more of his numerous free throw attempts that he had in that game. I think the Bills win their first Super Bowl easy. I doubt the 49ers would have employed the eat up the clock strategy Parcells utilized against the Bills hurry up offense. Instead, I think the 49ers would have tried to outgun the Bills which would have backfired and the Bills are world champions in 1991. Would've been a helluva game though. If that field goal goes in I could see the Bills winning more than just one Super Bowl. They might've had the confidence to win one or two more but whether they could have defeated the '92 Redskins or '93 Cowboys is still up for debate in my book as I felt those teams were superior to the Bills in both of those Super Bowls.

I was the University of Kentucky last year but my school, Western Kentucky University, is on Division I-A experimental status this year. Can I be Western Kentucky instead of UK for this season? If not being UK is fine and I'm happy to rejoin this years contest. -
I can't believe I forgot about Alfonzo. The whole ECW gimmick with him as the heel referee was classic stuff. Watching it always leaves me in stitches.
