  1. Umaga beats Cena pillar to post, Cena no sells a headbutt, five knuckle shuffle, FU, and the STF finishes and destroys all of Umaga's potential. Book it.....NOT. Realistically, I bet we get the Edge interference but remember, this IS Cena we're talking about being booked here.
  2. I dunno what is making me laugh harder: The bad rating OR the fact that the WWE's top brass (especially in reference to messing around with creative) just will continue to not get it
  3. Reds rallying to beat the Rockies starting in the 8th inning with Adam Dunn's HR made my day. Now we have a two game lead in the WC race and let's hope it stays that way.
  4. Newt Gingrich recently told Newsweek magazine that he is looking into a 2008 bid. Asked what would push him into the "definitely running" category Gingrich said he would have to build a second Contract with America and see if it would have enough appeal. You also have to wonder how the 2006 elections will impact each of the nomination processes. If the Democrats win they might attribute their success to being against Bush and nominate a polar opposite of Bush in 2008 (ex. Feingold) while the Republicans might opt for a more moderate candidate (ex. Guiliani or McCain). Then again, the GOP could go far right because they think Bush wasn't conservative enough and then we get someone else. I also wish the Jeb Bush rumors would die because there is absolutley NO WAY the American people are going to elect another Bush president, especially after his brother just served for eight years.
  5. Amen. I don't mean to take away from either woman because they are talented in their respective fields but I am seriously tired of this "oppressed women vs. men" angle. Wie gets another chance with the men @ the 84 Lumber Classic later this year so get ready to stomach (no pun intended from Wie's heat exhaustion yesterday) some more.
  6. I always thought that character had potential, though, regardless of how silly/creepy it was. Kinda like Goldust on a whole new, controversial level. I have to cast my vote for Gobbeldygooker. They have an EGG they show on TV for a long time and hype up what is going to be in it and then @ Survivor Series 1990 this....THING that looks like a turkey hops out and starts dancing with Mean Gene Okerlund? I watched that show last night and its absolutley embarassing to watch. Funny to see how the crowd craps all over it though but then again, what were people expecting? Sting or Ric Flair in the egg?
  7. I'm a big fan of the controversial Hogan-Orndorff cage match.
  8. While you make a good argument there is a dillema: many of the terror targets Israel is trying to eliminate operate in densely populated areas so there will always be some segment of "collateral damage" whether intended or not. Operating in such zones gives these terror groups a win-win situation because they continue to attack Israel and then when there is a response civilians get killed which a) gets an international condemnation by way of the usual gang like France and the UN and b) gives them more ammunition to recruit fighters from. Also, even if Israel used the satellite technology you speak of and such or had another way of directly pinpointing the members of Hamas or Hezbollah that is no guarantee that some civilians may not be maimed or killed. Didn't Israel drop fliers into Beirut before it launched further attacks to stay away from Hezbollah controlled buildings and such? Since I think they did at least that's part of a fair warning for what is to come versus the unpredictable nature of terror attacks that Israel has endured for decades.
  9. This stuff makes me laugh. It's like people in both parties were OVERLY concerned with the Israeli-Palestinian peace process days before all hell broke loose over there.
  10. Isn't that low by their standards? I thought they usually averaged above 4.0.
  11. Well I'm sure people have different polling numbers on both sides and the news media have theirs. Polls are simply polls and don't ever convey precisely what the real margin of the vote will be since of course turnout decides elections. In fact, after all the back and forth we've had on this board I would not be surprised if the Democrats win lots of House seats and maybe retake the Senate as they pound the GOP and retain all of their seats. After all, this time the GOP doesn't have a gay marriage amendment to get people to turn out and they also lack a key issue to rush their supporters to the polls. Democrats on the other hand are using several state votes to launch minimum wage increases which appeal to their base, unions in particular, and could help them in tight races across the country. But hell it's only mid-July and there is lots of time for both parties to keep screwing up and making it harder for them to win.
  12. Well to win control of the Senate the Democrats have to win five seats while retaining all of theirs. If the GOP defeats Cantwell in Washington (which is a realistic possibility) or Steele beats the Democratic challenger in Maryland to replace Democrat Paul Sarbanes then it will probably prevent a switching of control. Interestingly enough, Jim Jefford (I-VT) will probably be replaced by another independent, Bernie Sanders, who is an independent "democratic socialist" and represents VT in the House right now. Democrats are supporting him in this race. Back to your list, though. I see Burns losing due to the Abramoff scandals and so the Democrats pick up the seat in MT. Talent will have a very tough race in MO versus popular state auditor Claire McCaskill but I think he will pull that one out due to the size of his contacts in the area. However, he's only up 47-46% right now. TN's race is a dead heat and Harold Ford Jr. is in a dead heat with all of his GOP challengers but I just can't forsee TN voting Democrat although its not foreign to them (they were the home of Gore). I see little reason by AZ would ditch Kyl. He's got a solid lead in the latest polls. Allen's race will be VERY close and probably damage any chance he has at a 2008 presidential campaign but in the end he's got the money and will get the necessary RNC support to beat back Webb. I could care less about the Rhode Island seat since Chafee is one the most liberal GOP members and I think that seats a goner anyway. Therefore, when adding up a DEFINITE gain in Pennsylvania and two gains in Montana and Rhode Island the Dems need to pull off an upset in TN and win a close race in Missouri. Not necessarily impossible but the DNC will have to pour money to save Cantwell in WA as her poll numbers have dropped for the fifth time in six months vs. Mike McGavick and might have to do the same against Steele in Maryland. The Democrats will definitely GAIN seats in the Senate but I would predict a 51-48-1 margin based on how things currently are with the GOP retaining control. What is killing the GOP this year is a list of really crappy candidates in races versus incumbents especially in Michigan and Florida (especially here where Bill Nelson has to vanquish Katherine Harris in a race that wasn't even close to start with).
  13. Bullshit. Like anyone could pick a Palestinian out of a lineup of Mediterraneans. They're essentially displaced Jordanians. Don't shoot the messenger. Just reporting what I have read over the past six years.
  14. IF Hezbollah moves the kidnapped soldiers into Iran then it's over for the Islamic Republic because Israel is not a country that is going to care if the world tells it to hold back in attacking Iran to its fullest capacity. Hell, Israel took out Iraq's nuclear program in the 1980s and probably will not hesitate to do the same to Iran but the danger is that Iran has its nuke facilities scattered and Israel probably wouldn't be able to hit them all. When I heard the UN was sending a "diplomatic team" to resolve the conflict I let out a big groan. The UN hasn't accomplished anything of diplomatic note in quite a while as is evidenced by the stalemate over Iran, stalemate over North Korea, stalemate in the Sudanese peace process, and stalemate over the Democratic Republic of the Congo getting free/non-violent elections later this year. Plus, Israel doesn't necessarily trust the UN since the General Assembly treats it as its whipping boy and doesn't want peacekeepers in its territory since the peacekeepers would be very ineffective at stopping terrorism versus the Israelis but then would halt any attempt at retaliation. I guess you can count me in the boat of those people who say that the UN would probably intervene to protect Iran or any of the other Islamic countries from the "evil" Israeli force that is the true piece of evil in the region. In response to someone's post above about the Middle East countries should just let the Palestinians come into their territory it's not going to happen. This isn't because its not necessarily feasible but its because the people of other Middle Eastern nations look down on the Palestinians and don't see them as a pure Arabs. In fact, other Middle East nations don't give a damn about the Palestinians and only use them to continue the jihad against the Jews of Israel. Quite sad really because not only do the Palestinians get the shaft of being able to form their own state but they aren't supported in good faith by their Arab brothers and sisters.
  15. Yea, I live in Danville. Don't go to Centre for college because it was too close but went there for the state's Governor's Scholars Program. I know I have defended Lieberman a lot on this board and I don't want to give the impression that he's my favorite politician or something. I'm just assessing his electoral chances and the implications for the Democratic Party. Is the DNC behind Lieberman in this primary? If not I have to believe that some of the party big whigs have to be hoping that he gets defeated in this campaign. I would argue that Clinton faces no challenge because of pressure within the DNC not to have anyone face her. Can't say too much of Washington politics other than Cantwell will face an EXTREMELY tough test in the general election since she lost tons of money in the dot com bust and will have to rely on getting money from special interests to win (she took the moral high ground on that in 2000). Unsure about Nelson also but he's got a pretty conservative constituency in Nebraska so a liberal challenge against him would probably fail. I just have to wonder about fallout for the Democrats on this one. IF Lieberman loses the primary it could paint the Democrats as a party of the ultra-left and give fodder to the GOP over the Democrats being weak on security again because it would make Lieberman a martyr over Iraq. I know the GOP has SEVERELY damaged their security card in recent years and its been overplayed but it just seems the Dems might be shooting themselves in a foot here with this race. Then again, I don't see the Democrats winning control of the Senate (probably the House though if current trends continue) because other than definitely unseating Santorum in Pennsylvania they still have to win key races in Ohio (vs. DeWine) and Maryland (vs. Michael Steele).
  16. That was one kick ass promo. Fuckin' figures. My thoughts exactly. Creative probably didn't like it because a) they didn't write it so they couldn't claim any credit or b) Foley doing a decent job (I wasn't blown away by the promo but it was still good) without their help might cause other wrestlers in the back to start thinking "why can't we have the freedom to do that stuff?"
  17. This doesn't look good at all. Also, Israel has just struck the Palestinian Foreign Ministry in Gaza so we look to have a two-front conflict on our hand right now with the Israelis going after Hamas in Gaza and focusing on Hizbullah in Lebannon.
  18. Yea, youth have no political compass in America today. This is why I hate "political debates" that my professors orchestrate in some of my college classes because people have opinions that are not grounded in any theory/facts and cannot explain themselves properly. Every problem we face today is Bush's fault although they cannot explain why. Then again, they probably did not vote in the last election since the people who always complain are those that don't vote. In response to bigolsmitty above, yes I was talking about that KET show. It was about KY youth but I felt that the debate accomplished practically nothing. Also, I HATE Tom Buford, my state senator, with a passion and can't believe the GOP nominated him to face off with Ben Chandler two years ago and the guy looked like a bumbling fool going on ranks about nothing. Some sound bites: "People just are not having enough children' and "People like their pizza fast." WTF??!! As far as Lieberman goes, I knew Iraq would get brought up but I am saying that he voted to depose an evil dictator. All evidence isn't in WMD's, although that IS the way this administration framed the debate over Iraq to its peril. However, I'll say it once and another million times: Lieberman will not lose the CT election either as a Democrat or independent because the GOP isn't going to mount a serious challenge there. I mean can you see the Bush/Cheney team going in there to campaign against Lieberman? I don't see it happening.
  19. This is close to the core of why people don't connect with politicians anymore. The average American and their politicians speak completely different languages. A real, everyday person would have said "listen, you're endorsing an amendment that would prevent your own daughter from getting married. Come on, what kind of garbage is that?" But noooooo, it's just more and more excessive legalese that requires talking heads to decode simple speeches for people. No one gives a fuck, so the "insiders" take over more and more and you've got a disgruntled populace that feels more disconnected from its governmental institutions than ever. Ching, ching, ching! We have a winner! I totally agree with the above post. I was watching a political show on our local channel last night discussing KY politics and all everyone did was pat each other on the back and think they were God's gift to the political system. In fact, they were just talking about policies that were so paternalistic it wasn't even funny. For example, requiring booster seats for children ages 5 thru 9 because some parents "simply are not educated enough to know the real dangers involved in vehicular travel." I'm dead serious on that one. I am so tired of these government bureaucrats and politicians who believe they know the true conception of what the perfect life is and then dictate to the rest of us how to live that life without letting us decide ourselves. I think there is ground to be won for candidates across the country regardless of political affiliation if they come out and be straight with voters. Forget the political wishy wash, we need people who say screw special interests and vote on the facts. Then again, Joe Lieberman tries to make decisions based on the evidence and what works instead of being ideologically constrained and he's the one facing a nasty primary campaign in Connecticut right now.
  20. Wouldn't Jarrett pinning Joe be akin to when the AWA refused to put the World title on Hulk Hogan?
  21. I hope Flair pulls off the upset but not likely. You know, it would have worked out better if Flair had beaten RVD last week for the belt and then started acting like he was "above being hardcore" in the new ECW. I think I would mark out for Sabu-Flair even if it fell apart halfway through because of both guys limitations.
  22. There were some things about this show I liked and some I hated. GOOD: *The Edge-Cena interaction. Cena is much more tolerable when he is chasing the belt. *Cena-Benjamin was good for what it was. I hate that damn STFU, though, because Cena uses NO PSYCHOLOGY to set it up! *Melina-Trish match. Match was not great and not surprised at all by the result but I like both of them so it doesn't matter. *Highlanders vs. Conway/Striker. I like Striker's gimmick because its like Dean Douglas (although Shane did a much better job with it). JR acted like the Highlanders being undefeated meant something but it really doesn't when there are like two real tag teams on RAW. *Viscera and Haas turning on Lillian. Hey, at least this angle had some backstory. BAD: *The Diva Search. I hate it with a passion and also flipped to ESPN during it. Even worse its hosted by THE MIZ this year?!? *Eugene-McMahon-DX interaction. For what it's worth I bet some interest group for the mentally challenged will send the WWE an angry letter tomorrow. *Ric Flair vs. Big Show tomorrow night?...ON ECW?!?!? I'll tape it and give it a look later but I am not holding my breath at this one. I remember watching Nitro in April 1996 when Flair had Big Show in a figure-four and the Big Show powered out, chokeslammed him, and won the belt. I guess the writers thought we needed to see this match ten years in teh making! By the way, Heyman's whole "extreme entertainment" thing made me gag. Overall, I was about 50-50 on RAW tonight. First hour was good and second hour was definitely not and I would have to say that the bad stuff outweighed the good stuff. --- On a side note, is it possible for the WWE to be vulnerable to a hostile takeover bid since its publicly traded? I know it is probably outside the realm of possibility but in the boredom of the 2nd hour tonight I got to thinking about it randomly.
  23. This Diva Search is the main reason I try to avoid RAW in the summer. This D-X stuff is wearing on me and Trish is probably going to be squashed by Melina so no reason to be happy about that.
  24. Well here's an idea for the WWE: If you don't want things to be taken by fans don't throw them into the audience. I know the poster earlier said Test improved it but it seems that they should be mad at Test and not the fan. Hell, catching that head probably made the guys night or something.
