A little kid asked me today if it was okay to be on Weekend Update. -

Sorry about that- I thought you knew what assscat was since you mentioned UCB. My bad. Assscat is an improvised show done Sunday night at the UCB Theatre. Amy Poehler, Seth Meyers, Rob Riggle and Horatio Sanz from SNL are there a lot. Tina and Rachel are there once in a while. I've seen Sudeikis perform there before so I've gotten a read on him from that. His jokes and bits would be funny but I don't think he'd work. Sorry for the confusion. -

Bush and Cheney haven't questioned Kerry's military career. If they did then it'd be disgusting. Kerry and Edwards have discussed Cheney's gay daughter -
How Amy Poehler got the Weekend Update gig.

As I said in my first review- I like Amy a LOT. She does great impressions, can play white trash to perfection and is very good at improv even thoug her monologues are weak. And yes- she is hot and sexy. Yea- she's good at assscat. I just don't like her cuteness on WU. It works in skits and it worked when Tina counteracted with Jimmy but two cute girls smiling their way through a news update doesn't work for me. She was better this week and I hope she keeps getting better. Disagree on Seth. I think he'd be perfect for WU. The guy always owns when he's at the desk and I think he's got the delivery for a newscaster and could have great bits with Tina. (Even though I'd be against it) Sudeikis is a writer- he does stuff at assscat all the time. He's hilarious and I could see him working. He doesn't have the look which probably hurt him. I bet he has tremendous jokes and could probably have great interplay with Tina. Kenan would be interesting. Don't know if he'd have the jokes but I could see him having good bits with Tina. I'm worried that they'd do too many black jokes with him. -
I just realised AS' sig has AFB in it. Now I'm nauseous. For the past two days I've prepared big feasts to watch the game. Saturday I'm fasting

The OAO third and FINAL Presidential Debate Thread

Edwards even said if any of his staffers mention his dead son or anything- he'd fire them on the spot. I LOVED how in last week's debate Cheney was like: Yea- thanks for trying to bait me you asshole. Next question. Why can't the media harp on this? -

Well Edwards' son in a car accident- so they couldn't really. But bringing up Cheney's daughter is disgusting. Everyone but NY Untouchable seems to understand that. -
From the AP- Pat Tillman always stood up for what he believed. His friend Jake Plummer wanted to as well, but officials from the NFL weren't so keen on letting him. Plummer relented Wednesday, agreeing to adhere to the league's dress code and remove a sticker from his helmet that honored Tillman, who was killed in the war in Afghanistan after quitting football to join the Army. "When it comes to honoring Pat, he's bigger than a sticker on my helmet," Plummer said. "I don't like the fact I can't, but I understand what the league wants to accomplish with its rules and regulations." To soften the blow, the NFL said it would not fine Plummer for wearing the sticker last Sunday in violation of league rules. Also, the league agreed to let Plummer tape public-service announcements honoring Tillman and play them in stadiums nationwide on the weekend after Veteran's Day. "We, too, want to continue to keep Pat Tillman's legacy alive, but ... we have rules regarding personal messages on uniforms that we needed to apply consistently," the NFL said in a statement. Tillman, a former teammate of Plummer's at Arizona State and with the Arizona Cardinals, quit the league in 2002 to join the Army Rangers. He died in combat in April. To honor the former safety, all NFL players wore the No. 40 decal on their helmets during the second week of the season. The Cardinals will wear the decal all season. Plummer wanted to keep his own tribute going past the second week. Warned of possible fines by the NFL, Plummer backed down for the next two games. But against the Panthers last Sunday, the sticker reappeared. At that time, Plummer said giving up the fight just didn't feel right, and he agreed to accept whatever fine was levied and urged fans to donate to the Pat Tillman Foundation. By Wednesday, the story had gained footing well beyond Broncos headquarters and the NFL offices. Arizona Sen. John McCain sent a letter to NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue criticizing the league's policy. Colorado Sen. Wayne Allard also weighed in. "I find it disheartening that the National Football League will penalize a player for honoring a fallen soldier, friend and American hero," Allard wrote in a letter to the commissioner. In its statement, the NFL said "we look forward to working together with" Plummer and announced it has donated $250,000 to build the first USO facility in Afghanistan, which will be named after Tillman. The Broncos will honor Tillman by putting up a big No. 40 logo -- Tillman's number with the Cardinals -- near the play clock on the north end of the stadium. The team also will run ads on the scoreboard during games to promote the Tillman Foundation. "His idea was, `How can I go forward from this?" Broncos spokesman Jim Saccomano said. "We were looking for a better way. Everyone felt the same way, that something like this would work." The NFL has long had a strict uniform policy banning untucked shirts, unlicensed logos and unapproved decals and signs worn on uniforms and helmets, regardless of the reason. A few years ago, Peyton Manning wanted to wear high-top shoes in tribute to the late Johnny Unitas but was told he couldn't, so he backed off. In one of the more famous episodes, Bears quarterback Jim McMahon played with an Adidas ad plastered on his headband. Then-commissioner Pete Rozelle told him not to, so McMahon came back with a headband that said "Rozelle." McMahon was fined. Plummer, who signed a $40 million contract last year and could afford any fine levied by the NFL, knew he was walking a fine line between doing what he believed was right and causing a distraction. "They had a long-standing friendship and I respect him for the stance he took," Broncos safety John Lynch said. "You don't want it to become a distraction, but in life you've got to stand up for what you believe in, and that's what Jake did." In the end, Plummer thinks what he's doing now will be a more effective tribute to Tillman than just slapping a decal on a helmet. "It's a terrible feeling that we are having to do this. It's bittersweet," Plummer said. "The fact we are talking about this and he has a foundation -- it's a constant reminder that he's not here with us any more. Now, let's go do some positive stuff in his name."

Bush did really well tonight. He looked relaxed, comfortable and liked he was having fun. Kerry looked tired and like he didn't want to be there. Bush did so much better then debate #1 -

I like how W. is focusing strictly on Kerry's record. That's what he has to do. If he would stop tripping over his words and spoke more clearly- he'd be better off. -

Of course SportsNet is showing Yankees v. Red Sox despite the fact that Fox is showing... Yankees v. Red Sox. And it looks brighter on SportsNet for some reason

NEW YORK -- Curt Schilling needs surgery on his injured right ankle, but the Red Sox hope he will still be able to pitch Game 5 of the AL championship series Sunday. Schilling lasted just three innings and 58 pitches in Boston's 10-7 loss to the New York Yankees in Tuesday night's opener, allowing six runs, his poorest playoff performance since 1993. The Red Sox said the sheath that covers a tendon in Schilling's ankle is torn. "The tendon is snapping over the bone," Red Sox physician Dr. Bill Morgan said Wednesday. Schilling will undergo surgery after the postseason and will need about three months to recover. If the injury occurred during the season, Morgan said Schilling would have been placed on the disabled list. Schilling pitched with a brace Tuesday and had a shot of painkiller in the ankle. Still, he had trouble pushing off the rubber with his right leg. The Red Sox hope a better brace will help, but if not, Schilling's season will be over. Babe needs to get over it.

How Amy Poehler got the Weekend Update gig.
bob_barron replied to MDH257's topic in Television & Film
Thank you for posting that. I think it's pretty shitty that Tina ignored the obvious choice and instead decided to pick one of her friends because she has 'energy.' Amy does have a lot of energy but it can't overcome the fact that her jokes are weak as hell and her delivery is very off. A female-female team is offputting. Seth Meyers would've easily been the best choice for WU. While the comparisons to Jimmy would've been inevitable, they would've been dismissed as soon as Meyers came into his own and showed he had talent. Jason Sudakis also would've been a good choice. The guy is hilarious and his laid back persona would've been remiscent of Norm's Weekend Update run. Amy is ruining Weekend Update now and Tina is getting worse because of it. I don't want WU to be this fun cute little ride. That's not what WU is to me. WU is telling hilarious jokes counteracted with commentaries. Tina and Amy seem to trying to outcute each other and are trying to have fun. I'm glad they're having fun but I want them to be funny. So far they haven't achieved both. -
Yea- Regal and HHH are best friends in WWE. Because of that I'm surprised they never blew off Regal v. HHH. Instead of the vote for the title thing I would've done a Falls Count Anywhere match between the two and just have them beat the hell out of each other for 20 minutes. HHH gets over but it's like at Fully Loaded 2000 where even though he won he's still bloody as hell and about to fall over. It'd give major rub to Regal. That one week Regal-HHH feud was great stuff.
