  1. Reality Bites- Good, but flawed in many respects. Ethan Hawke is pretty unlikeable as Troy and Ben Stiller, who we're supposed to be rooting against, actually comes across as a decent guy. The dance scene in the petrol station is still pretty funny and Janeane Garofalo is great as usual, but it could have been better 6/10
  2. Gary Barlow had a fanbase after Take That split, he released really bad singles like "Forever Love", his career failed. Had he kept writing songs to the standard of "Back For Good", he'd likely have remained a success. What Charlie needs is a song good enough that cynics will forget his pop past and take him seriously for his music.
  3. "A Present For Everyone" is indeed a tremendous album and showed a decent progression from the cheesier pop hits of the first album to actual songwriting ability, although "Thunderbirds Are Go" (a "bonus" track on the re-released version) is still pretty wank. The main problem Fightstar will have is who they'll appeal to. Just because Charlie has started wearing Funeral For A Friend t-shirts and covering Nine Inch Nails songs doesn't mean that people will suddenly start taking him seriously as a musician, but at the same time could well put off his teen fanbase. If their first release isn't fantastic, they'll be in trouble.
  4. This upsets me greatly for several reasons. Firstly, this means that there will be no more tremendous Busted hits of the standard of "Who's David?", which was excellent. Secondly, the only member of Busted confirmed to be still involved in music is Charlie, who had minimal writing credits for any of the songs (Matt being the main writer) and has by far and away the worst voice in the band. Most irritatingly is the fact that, had I travelled to Coventry from Nottingham one night earlier, I could have seen Fightstar in concert last night at Warwick Uni. The only positive side is that the Coventry Evening Telegraph had an interview with small children giving their opinion on the Busted split, one of whom stated that Busted couldn't sing and they'd be much better with a member of G Unit on vocals, an idea that amused me greatly.
  5. Reality Bites The Laramie Project
  6. Alexander- Really felt obliged to see it after doing an entire module on Alexander during my degree, plus, since seeing "Daredevil", my housemate finds Colin Farrell utterly hilarious. Nowhere near as bad as everyone say, and perversely entertaining in places, although not in the way you imagine Oliver Stone wanted it to be. A bit too long and you kinda wish that Stone hadn't decided to make Alexander's death more glamourous than his actual died-of-pneumonia death really was, but still decent enough 5.5/10
  7. "Medicine Bottle" by the Red House Painters-can't believe that a near ten-minute song, with no regard to conventional verse-chorus structures could be so addictive
  8. 1--WWE Raw 2--WWE Smackdown 3--NWA:TNA 4--ROH 5--CZW 6--IWA-Mid South 7--PWG 8--OVW 9--JAPW 10-3PW 11-NWA Wildside 12-NWA Florida 13-FWA-UK 14-NECW 15-Chikara 16-UPW 17-WXW 18-ECWA 19-APW 20-IWS
  9. "Hot Saki and Bedtime Stories" by Catherine "Retrospective" by the Red House Painters "1965" by the Afghan Whigs "White Doves & Smoking Guns" by the AKA's "You Can't Fight What You Can't See" by Girls Against Boys
  10. Not only do I get a card of: WWF @ New Haven, CT - Veterans Memorial - June 13, 1982 Greg Valentine defeated Rick McGraw Blackjack Mulligan defeated Steve Travis Chief Jay & Jules Strongbow defeated Mr. Fuji & Mr. Saito via disqualification Andre the Giant defeated Adrian Adonis But also the shocking news that on the day I was born: 6/13/82: Former WWF star Peter Miavia passed away at the age of 47. Crikey!
  11. Totally agree with "Only Shallow", "Grace Cathedral Park" and "Teenage Riot". Just wanted to add: "Rather Be Dead" by Refused (from Songs To Fan The Flames Of Discontent) "Sparks Are Going To Fly" by the Catherine Wheel (from Wishville) "Daily Mutilation" by the Posies (from Amazing Disgrace) "You Held The World In Your Arms" by Idlewild (from The Remote Part) "Sleepflower" by the Manics (from Gold Against The Soul)
  12. "The Best Way To Beat A Mid-Life Crisis (Is To Be Dead)" by the AKA's
  13. "1965" by the Afghan Whigs-not sure how it if I prefer it or not to "Black Love" just yet, but does confirm my suspicions that Greg Dulli is some kind of musical god. "Frosting On The Beater" by the Posies-well worth the £4 it cost, "Flavor Of The Month" being worth the cost by itself "The Trees Are Dead And Dried Out Wait For Something Wild" by Sikth-growing on me at the moment, although the single "How May I Help You?" is still the highlight "Smoking Guns And White Doves" by the AKA's-a fantastic hybrid of Devo, Refused and the Clash which is still danceable as fuck
  14. After a brief period of confusion, I've realised that the Embrace mentioned here isn't the same as the Embrace who had a number one album in the UK last year with their trademark brand of catchy somophore indie.
  15. Awesome, this sounds like a plan...for February. Which, considering I've got car tax, car MOT and holidays eating into my finance for January, is a more sensible plan. Besides which, having only moved to Nottingham in September, my knowledge of the place isn't as great as it could be, so if MiG is interested, he'd probably know the superior parts of the city.
  16. I'd go for 5. One from the front, acting as a sacrifical lamb, two from the sides who cause general scratches to the leg and arms, the fourth cat attacks from behind while you're unaware, disorientating the victim, cat number 5 gets the jugular. Voila, a cat victory.
  17. You're in Sheffield, right? That's not too far from Nottingham, could be interesting. Of course I say this in the knowledge that I'm not going to have internet access for 2 weeks, but after that could be an intruiging experience
  18. "Get The Keys And Go" by the Llama Farmers
  19. There's a Smiths tribute album called "How Soon Is Now: A tribute To The Smiths" that came out this year which is decent in places. Million Dead do a great job with "Girlfirend In A Coma", thisGirl have a decent stab at "Shoplifters Of The World Unite" and the Beautiful Mistake cover of "Cemetery Gates" is splendid. However, Hundred Reasons do the wankiest cover of "How Soon Is Now" I've ever heard
  20. "Actually, It's Darkness" by Idlewild

    English Football

He's been one of our best players since Jol took over. At the start of the season it was heavily rumoured that he'd be off to Forest as part of a deal for Andy Reid, as he'd been average last season and was mainly on the bench during our opening games. Now though, Jol's given him more of a free attacking role, where he's been creating some excellent chances, as well as scoring a belter against Norwich. He gives 100% each game too, which is why he's becoming a hit with the fans.
  22. The Big Show-"The Rancid Giant" Ric Flair- "Colostomy Flair" Steph- "Rhyno"
  23. "My Sweet Jane" by G.U.N.
  24. All for £5 each: "100 Broken Windows" by Idlewild (finally replacing my horribly scratched copy) "Strays" by Jane's Addiction "A Place In The Sun" by Lit "A New Romance" by Pretty Girls Make Graves
  25. You'll find emo is generally considered to be a dirty word here, although personally I find emo can be great in the right hands. Funeral For A Friend are utterly tremendous, probably the best live act Britain has produced for ages and My Chemical Romance are also marvellous. Taking Back Sunday are really hit or miss I find, more often than not as a miss. The problem with emo is not falling into the trap of being really sickeningly whining, which is the problem with bands like Dashboard Confessionals or wank like Midtown. Brand New are slowly evolving as a band, with "Deja Entendu" being much better than their debut, the OneLineDrawing album "The Volunteers" was one of the smartest, most inventive albums released in 2004 and with above-average acts like Bullet For My Valentine and Alexisonfire looking to break through this year, the outlook for superior-emo is pretty good. Not sure I'd call Avenged Sevenfold emo though...
