WWE General Discussion - January 2008
EVIL~! alkeiper replied to Prophet of Mike Zagurski's topic in The WWE Folder
Just work at the moment, I'm in between college and grad school. I still live at home so it's not like I have a shitload of life expenses, just my personal effects. -

Generally I pull in around $550 or so every two weeks. That's after taxes and health premiums, which are deducted automatically. -
It simply clears a spot on the 40 man roster.

Jay Payton is their top center fielder at the moment, though his defense is questionable.

I think the main reason they haven't done Wargames is the two-ring approach. -
He gets on the 40 man roster (HA) but it looks like he'll be in Norfolk. Nobody on the OH likes the move and I bet Al here doesn't care.. oh well. It's a minor, organizational move. The Phillies signed So Taguchi and picked up T.J. Bohn on waivers late last season, and after our minor league signees (Brandon Watson) I've got him ninth on the team's outfield depth chart. He's not going to be an Oriole, this is just a move to shore up their own minor league depth. Nothing to get worked up over.

Maybe it will make my jaw drop. Lots of things do. I'm not paying for it though. What do you spend your money on Al? Besides stat books. car payment, student loan payment, essentials. What's there for recreation I use mainly to buy books and dvds. I usually don't make big ticket purchases unless I have to replace something. -

About the time this post was made. I'd do something about it but people complain when I meddle in their foosball.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/hof08/news/story?id=3171257 Larry Stone convinces Phil Rogers to vote for Jim Rice. What's frustrating is how many superior players have been passed over while Rice hangs on. Tim Raines will get half the support, he was a superior player. Jose Cruz was a superior player. He got TWO votes in his only year of eligibility. Rice's supporters take his inflated numbers from Fenway Park and make their qualifiers 1975-86, exactly Rice's peak. First in games and at bats, huh? No wonder he rates so highly in every counting stat. Let's expand this to 1970-1990, a few years on each side. Want to guess how many categories Rice leads? How about none of them. Let's have some fun with that 1975-86 stuff for a moment though. One of the big arguments for Rice is that he was the most feared hitter of his day. When it comes to intentional walks in that period though (keep in mind we're using AL only), he rates eighth. Rating ahead of Jim Rice are such non-HOFers as Ben Oglivie, Ken Singleton and Don Baylor. Singleton was a great hitter, played on two pennant winners and had a higher OPS+ than Rice. He failed to receive a single HOF vote. Yet Rice hangs on because he put up some superficially impressive seasons in Fenway. For the record, here are a list of the best seasons by LFers in terms of OPS+. Just look how "historic" Rice's seasons rate. http://www.baseball-reference.com/pi/shareit/m5Br

Not that the match was a showstealer or anything, but it's hard to believe that Bobo Brazil was a few days short of sixty when that match took place. Looking at Cawthon's site, it was also one of his last WWF appearances. He wrestled in only two matches afterwards, battle royals in 1986 and '87. -

Because you hold your big live events on holidays, which encourage attendance. I'm not sure Christmas would hold the same sort of significance when your Canadian fans celebrate Boxing Day instead. -

Yeah, we discussed the show in last month's thread. LOTS of good stuff to pick from. Bash at the Beach '94, MSG 1980, new World Class, etc. I'm checking out Black Saturday. How can you get ticked off when Vince McMahon gives you Adrian Adonis and Dick Murdoch? -

I think it's beating a dead horse on my part. I prefer a lot of programming on WWE 24/7; a good portion of what I enjoy doesn't exist on FHD in the first place. That aside, I have a television that works, why do I need a new one? I haven't even upgraded to STEREO tv for christ sakes. -
Nah, they would've crossed that bridge with the Warrior dvd already. They can easily start with the WCW/UWF merger.

You'll notice they had over a dozen guys like Scotty Flamingo that they didn't even use for Battlebowl. It was more sensible in 1991 and '93. Those years it was just tag matches and one finale. -

I get the feeling Matt needs more recovery time, hence the concussion angle. Is he supposed to be ready by the Rumble? -

I don't know, I bought both Battlebowls '92 and '93 on PPV, so obviously I liked the concept. -

One or two surprise/nostalgia entrants are good, since obviously you're not going to book them to win. From a kayfabe/promoting standpoint, it makes sense to bring in some outsiders to fill out a 30 man match. -
It'd be interesting to take another promotion, say, WCW in 1989 and run the same analysis. It's one thing to look at WWE today, but you need a basis of comparison.

Oh don't get me wrong, I don't expect to find a HDTV at that price. But I can get a regular tv at that price. I'm at a loss to understand why I should pay extra for a better picture. -

NFL fans ladies and gentlemen. Truly this is America's new pastime. -
Man, that WCW vid is serious dedication. The logos, the Nitro girls, the botched powerbomb? It's all there.

The ONE match I hadn't seen I got on the WCCW dvd a week later. Actually strike that. I hadn't seen Brock/Eddie before.
