The start times are flat-out odd. 6:30pm starts instead of 7pm starts? The big problem with some matchups is that there is no consistency. Neither AL series starts at the same time on back-to-back days. I support TBS getting the games, but this will undoubtedly hurt ratings.

Since all the games are on TBS and there are three games in one day. The home games are in Boston, Philadelphia and Phoenix. You can figure out who gets screwed from there.

Posada's career high was .287, he eclipsed that by a full 40 points at the age of 35. I'm not saying he's not a good hitter. He is. I'm saying the fact that his batting average is so high is a fluke. He will likely hit closer to his career average next year.

Yeah, the 1999 World Series was possibly the worst thing I had to sit through.
-
Yes, but you can make the same argument for Citizens Bank Park.

I think his chances are slim. Let me address the current season first. It is absolutely a fluke. If you isolated his statistics, you would note no difference in walks, home runs, strikeouts, etc. The only difference is that he added about 40 hits on his regular total. Usually hitters do not add 50 points to their batting average in their mid 30s and sustain it. That is not meant to be criticism of Posada, who I believe is a very good player, just an observation. As for his Hall chances, only once did Posada receive MVP support (2003, he finished third). No top 10 or even top 20 finishes otherwise. It is very difficult for a player to receive Hall consideration when he wasn't viewed as an elite player during his career. Posada's greatest traits have been his high OBPs and consistency. Looking up some sabermetrics, he's 8th all time in Offensive Winning Percentage and 12th in Runs Created Above Position. Whether he should get in or not, he might have a case. Realistically I don't think he has a shot.

And looking over this thread, the only time I was really obnoxious was to Fairtoflair, well regarded as a poor poster.

I can see denying it to David Wright. I can't go against Matt Holliday, who I placed first after some re-evaluation. He's hitting .368 for the month coming into today, with an .811 slugging percentage.

I thought I brought it back the last few hours. That was two years ago. Back then I was idealistic, young, and my girlfriend hadn't yet fucked me over.

Someone get XM Radio a copy of Harry Kalas' call immediately. Scott Franszke (sp?) sucks.

I don't remember that.

Not a live game this time but worthy of an entry nonetheless. Today the Phillies clinched the National League East on the final day of the season. I will leave the taunting for Mets fans out if this one. I grew up in a family that was not big into baseball, so I don't really remember a great deal about the 1993 season. This is the first time I have vivid memories of the Phillies reaching the postseason. For those who wonder why cheer for a traditionally failing team, here you go. I can not imagine any division championship being as sweet to Yankee fans as today's victory was for Phils' fans. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say this season was the best baseball season I experienced. Around fifty live games attended. The highlights... -Watching the Texas Rangers score 30 runs on the Baltimore Orioles. -Seeing Louisville's Chris Dickerson hit for the cycle. -Catching Andy Pettitte implode against the Oakland Athletics, in Yankee Stadium. -Watching Sal F'n Fasano steal a base, straight up. -Getting an autograph from Joba Chamberlain. -Seeing back-to-back doubleheaders in Williamsport and Scranton. This season included 37 games in Scranton, three in Philadelphia, one trip to Williamsport (doubleheader), a doubleheader in Baltimore, a seat in the bleachers of Yankee Stadium (overrated), two games in Reading, and shots in Harrisburg, Trenton and Lakewood. Ranking the parks by best ballpark experience. 1. Citizens Bank Park (Philadelphia) 2. Oriole Park at Camden Yards (Baltimore) 3. First Energy Stadium (Reading) 4. First Energy Park (Lakewood) 5. Waterfront Park (Trenton) 6. Commerce Bank Park (Harrisburg) 7. Bowman Field (Williamsport) 8. Yankee Stadium 9. PNC Field (Scranton)

Are you enjoying this a little bit, Al? Just a little.

Quick programming note for those of you with SNY. "Mets Playoff Preview" airs at 11pm tonight.
-
His OBP is .342. You can put as much stock into that as you like. Personally, I've always viewed the MVP strictly in terms of performance and it wouldn't be proper to change that simply because it's my guy on the ballot.

The tie-breaker should air on TBS as per their television contract.

This thread is extended through tomorrow's game. No official divisional thread until the teams are set.
-
Something that hasn't gotten a lot of attention. There are quite a few off days set in the divisional series. The schedule for the NL works out for two days, an off day, two more games, an off day and game five. That means no team plays three days in a row. In fact, the Red Sox/Angels will only play once on back-to-back days. This really gives teams with shorter pitching staffs an advantage. Any team that carries more than 10 pitchers is fooling themselves.

If you like to collect stuff like that sure, (and I am one of them) you buy all of the shirts. The division, league pennant AND the World Championship. I have bills to pay, so that's out.
-
The National League playoff teams have four world championships combined in their histories. The American League teams have 35.

Apart from the whole Eddie aspect, the idea of a male wrestler getting preferential treatment by sleeping with the female authority figure is so basic and effective that I'm surprised it hasn't been done yet.
-
And we'll have game #163 in Colorado tomorrow!
-
I never understood the point of buying a shirt now. What if they win a World Series and you wasted money on a shirt that merely indicates they won the division?
-
Just a quick note for Eagles fans. P-H-I-L-L-I-E-S! Phillies!
-
I have something to add. Phillies rule!
