  1. No tight races in the American League at this point. The NL Central is still a three team race and the wild card chase is close with the Phillies, Dodgers and Rockies all chasing the Padres. The Cubs have a makeup game against the Cardinals tomorrow and a full series over the weekend.
  2. The point on Sosa is that we have an entire book written on Barry Bonds, and something else substantial on McGwire's usage. There is no connection anywhere with Sosa. No pharmacy supplying him drugs. No ex-teammates coming out. He likely used steroids, as a large percentage of athletes in this generation have done. But if you're going to jump on Sosa or any player with superior accomplishments, you might as well quit watching professional sports because this is going to be the law of the land for the foreseeable future. Also, it's ridiculous to present as "proof" pictures of players when they were 20-21 years old. People grow and fill out.
  3. 61 is also the Major League highest for an individual not on Steroids. There isn't even a substantiated rumor on Sammy Sosa.
  4. 51 home runs for Alex Rodriguez. It's worth noting that 61 is still the official American League record.
  5. Wild matchup tonight in Chicago. Tied at 4-4, the Twins scored six runs in the top of the ninth. The White Sox responded with six of their own to send the game into extra innings.
  6. There is more to blame than the owner and their payroll. In the last 15 years of the amateur draft the Pirates drafted Andy Rice, Jermaine Allensworth, Charles Peterson, Mark Ferris, Chad Hermansen, Kris Benson, J.J. Davis, Clint Johnston, Sean Burnett, Bobby Bradley, John Van Benschoten, Bryan Bullington, Paul Maholm, Neil Walker, Andrew McCutchen and Brad Lincoln. One hitter who got more than 500 at bats, and two pitchers with more than twenty career wins. Two number one overall picks, eight in the top ten, and the best they can claim is Kris Benson. When they did spend, they gave out awful contracts to Pat Meares and Kevin Young. They acquired Matt Morris from the Giants for no discernable reason whatsoever. Any executive should be able to improve their team just by having good draft position. The Pirates have failed in every aspect. I dare say they are the worst run organization in baseball.
  7. I get the impression most of that show was taped before Starrcade.
  8. You asked for examples of when you re-post stuff. This is one. No it's not, because I posted the other one in the other thread. The story is relevant for both threads, so I posted it in both. Try again. Pick a thread when posting something then.
  9. Minor note here. Since Cena and Batista switched shows, the World Heavyweight title is now on Smackdown I believe.
  10. Pie's young yet, don't count him out. They have a few good prospects, enough that they don't rank in the bottom third as an organization. The only problem the Cubs have is that their starters are nearly all 30 or older. No one looks ready to drop off a cliff though. Given the Cards' relative dearth of prospects, I wouldn't sweat it.
  11. If the Cubs don't win, at least they can point to a much improved winning percentage. I think it was a successful season either way.
  12. You're right, I can't say I'm impressed.
  13. I'd say heel turns weren't always so cut and dry. I'm not certain in this specific instance, but thankfully we'll likely see the WCCW run of shows for ourselves to see how Von Erichs/Freebirds play out specifically. *NOTE* *PLEASE READ* I've started a separate posted thread for 24/7 troubleshooting. Please take your concerns there. These threads will remain for discussion of content.
  14. Rather than continuous posts in the regular 24/7 threads, I figured this would be an easier alternative. If you have/had problems receiving 24/7 programming or some other trouble, talk about it here. This can also give posters an easier reference in the future.
  15. Frank "Wildfire" Schulte, a right fielder on the last Cubs dynasty. I never would have guessed he hit 20+ home runs in the dead ball era. If you ever want a fluke season, Schulte set career highs in doubles, triples, home runs, RBIs (not an official stat at the time), walks, OBP and slugging percentage. He's one of only five players who hit 20 home runs in a season before 1920, and didn't play on the 1884 Chicago White Stockings*. *That club played in a park with an extremely short porch in left field, I believe in front of a lake. Balls hit past the fence were considered doubles except in 1884, when they were home runs. Cap Anson, Fred Pfeffer, Abner Dalrymple and Ned Williamson all hit 20+ home runs. No wonder the rule change only lasted one season.
  16. Probably a nagging injury, since every indicator is ok besides his power. I expect him to rebound next season. Anything beyond that is out of my grasp.
  17. I can't find the instance. I can tell you the rule specifically was 6.02©. If the batter did not take his place in the box at a proper juncture, the umpire could call play ball and the pitch is a called strike no matter what. The rule was amended this year or last, now a strike is called and no pitch thrown. The umpire used proper judgment making the call.
  18. He actually has 11. The site first gives the assists totals in the outfield, and then breaks it down by position.
  19. When Hayes refers to the master plan, it seems like he's talking about the booking. It does amuse me that they go through all this trouble of a special referee, two referees etc. when since it was a no-DQ match, the ref's only function should be to count the shoulders.
  20. I agree, and I really dislike the way he handles fans of the sport here. But there's obviously a fairly large division between some baseball and some football fans; I myself didn't care much for baseball until Czech and I started talking about it a bit more recently, and I played it for the first time in years. I still love football far more than any other sport, but I can at least respect and appreciate the other ones. We have Agent to moderate for football and boxing threads though, so that's supposed to even it out. In all seriousness, it's fairly well known that I am not much of a football fan. I don't pop into every football thread to make that known. If I have a weakness as a moderator it's that I don't monitor the football threads much. If there is a problem within them, or any portion of the folder, a poster should feel free to PM me. I rarely receive PMs, so I assume everything usually runs smoothly.
  21. I would recommend it as there are some wonderful search options hidden in the play index. It's $5 to try it for a month so you can take that option and see if it suits you.
  22. Penn State/Notre Dame is a HUGE deal around here, so much so that the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees are playing their playoff game in the afternoon to avoid a time conflict.
  23. Here is the Slaughter/Sheik match in full. http://www.dailymotion.com/visited/search/...-iron-sheik-684 It s probably the best match WWE produced pre-Savage/Steamboat.
  24. I object to Iggyfly telling me about it.
  25. And now it's being discussed here, so no biggie. If I were authoritative, I would've tossed Secret Agent and Matt Young for flaming. Or better yet, ban football talk altogether. God is that tempting.
