  1. I didn't pay close attention. I don't think it's that bad though, just a standard Graham title match. Remember that Mascaras was at least then in his prime. Even in his prime Mascaras didn't like to bump, and I can't imagine Graham taking Mascaras' offense properly. Graham looked bad taking a few moves, including a dropkick and a hiptoss. They looked well when they used grappling sequences. I'd put it in the *1/2-** range. It wasn't all that good, but nothing you'd actively piss on. The ending though is awful, and shows what a different booking mindset wrestling had in that era.
  2. Pieces have been said and that's that. We don't need this turning into a public pissing match.
  3. Watch out for Justin Upton. Upton hit .341 in the Cal League, earning a promotion to AA. In three games there he's 5 for 10 with FOUR home runs.

  5. It's actually a tv show match, not the PPV match. It's also not from the ECW Arena as the caption claims. Tuesday Night Titans has the Killer Bees match from the rain soaked Puerto Rico show. It's a sight to behold.
  6. Some of it could just be bad luck. You have to wonder though if the lack of power is taking its toll. As he becomes less of a power threat, pitchers can safely challenge him, negating his tremendous plate discipline.
  7. Madison Square Garden show from 12/19/77 should come in this week.
  8. This is true. I'm amazed how stupid I really was when I was 18-21.
  9. "Buried" goes beyond wins and losses. Is the wrestler actively involved in a program or does he just appear in non-advertised matches? Does his character have direction? I think if you were to consider this, time on screen would be the crucial component.
  10. Why would they, seeing how the live ECW show follows the tapings?
  11. In fairness, how often does that move blow up like that?
  12. What might this list have looked like in 2001? Here are the leaders in either RCAP (for batters) or RSAA (for pitchers), from 2001-06. 1. Barry Bonds 2. Albert Pujols 3. Alex Rodriguez 4. Manny Ramirez 5. Todd Helton 6. Lance Berkman 7. Jim Edmonds 8. Jason Giambi 9. Chipper Jones 10. Bobby Abreu 11. Jim Thome 12. Vladimir Guerrero 13. Gary Sheffield 14. Derek Jeter 15. Brian Giles 16. Roy Halladay 17. Carlos Beltran 18. Jeff Kent 19. Pedro Martinez 20. Johan Santana Two guys on the list (Roy Halladay, Carlos Beltran) were 24 at the time, Johan Santana was 22 and Albert Pujols was 21. Four more were 25. Seven on the list were over 30. By comparison, BPro's current list has nine guys 24 or under and four are 30/31. If there's a conclusion to draw, it's that you're better off with an older established star than a 22/23 year old hot prospect, all else being equal. Of course when you factor contracts in, you'll take the youngster.

  14. Usually the intention in those kind of situations is to drum up house show business by letting the fans know that title changes can happen at those events.
  15. I believe the match was a dark match on the taping. The title switches were absolutely mentioned on WWF programming that weekend. I want to say that the first switch was announced on Prime Time Wrestling that Tuesday, but I couldn't confirm that.
  16. Thursday May 24, Ernie Harwell will do the television broadcast of the Detroit Tigers as their regular broadcaster is attending his son's graduation. If you have access to FSN Detroit, I implore you to watch this game as it's perhaps your last opportunity to hear one of the game's greatest broadcasters.
  17. I can't see Khali holding the title for anything but a hotshot angle. He simply couldn't shoulder the workload needed.
  18. For the record chase department, Ichiro Suzuki is on pace to break the single season record for putouts by an outfielder.
  19. Remember the Undertaker injury already backed them into a corner as far as the World title. They couldn't afford to sit on the title change another week.
  20. Seconded. I end up taping at least one show every two weeks.
  21. I've got tickets to Phillies/Cubs on Saturday. As an aside, don't bother trying to cherrypick wins. Baseball's too random for that. I've seen AJ Burnett get hammered and Ramon Ortiz win on trips to MLB games.
  22. Not often I'd think, because when a team wins a world championship there's undue pressure to keep the team intact far beyond their expiration date. Recently though, you could point to the 2004 Red Sox (Pedro, Lowe).
  23. Suppan got a big contract. Most felt the Cubs were insane for the Marquis deal, and the Mariners were pretty stupid for overpaying Jeff Weaver, and no one outbids the grim reaper (Hancock). The departed pitchers are one thing but outside of Suppan not a big deal. The Carpenter injury killed them. Honestly, I don't see why the Cardinals don't give Ryan Franklin a rotation slot.
  24. They translate his Japanese league stats.
  25. There must be some category for the most trampled of all sports fans. The ones who don't usually see winners but it's not so bad that they can commemorate their misery.
