Graham Cawthon's site claims the match never aired on television.

"You gonna suck my dick or what?" "No!" "Then what the hell you in here for?" That was CLASSIC.

ABC News had a short piece on mall security. I'm sorry, but once in awhile tragedies are going to happen. You can't go insane on securing every single public place because there's an incident every five years or so.

Here's the format. 38 teams, it will be a standard elimination tournament. Each series will be a best of seven contest. The first round will pit the lowest ranking twelve teams against one another. That will pare the field to 32 teams, and then it will go to 16, 8 and 4. The finals will be a six game round robin tournament among the final four. Teams are seeded based on their regular season winning percentage, and the higher seeded team receives home field advantage. Here are the first round matchups. '99 Rangers (Cuban Linx) vs. '01 Diamondbacks (Cartman) '92 Blue Jays (Kahran Ramsus) vs. '73 Mets (devo) '06 Twins (Vern Gagne) vs. '89 Orioles (MJ Styles) '50 Phillies (alkeiper) vs. '03 Marlins (J.T.) '86 Astros (Just John) vs. '98 Marlins (Mik) '82 Brewers (Snuffbox) vs. '04 Astros (UTBroward) If your team is not listed, you received a bye into the second round. I hope to simulate and write up one series a day, making it an approximate one month tournament. Details of the finals will come when that portion comes around. Good luck to all.

I see Paul took the time to add "a cunt" to my entry. Honestly, he is the saddest person on this forum I have ever encountered.

I don't think it's a big deal. If Kornheiser and Wilbon are on vacation or something, why not just let the show rest for a week instead of bringing in unpopular guest hosts?
-
Fixed Smues, and added Porter's team.
-
Consider them added.

The problem with that, according to mid 90s Lawler, is that Vince can just pull off his toupee to show himself bald. And I still wish they'd just combine the Vince/Trump feud and the Vince/ECW Originals feud. Say that Trump bought out ECW, and have him have the originals represent him against a team of people led by Vince. If Trump sat down Vince in a barber's chair and just pulled off his toupee, that'd be a fun payoff.

C'mon guys. I've got a bachelor's degree in history, and I can tell you that a regular part of my research is delivering fierce beatings to those with differing opinions. It's all part of the job. -
Good Lord, no. They were TERRIBLE. I woulda picked the '80 Stros over the 04 'Stros, if only because I'm a JR Richard fan, and he woulda won the Cy Young that year, had he not gotten ill. And looking at the team stats for the 1980 team, I don't know how the Astros finished first in the division that year. They were relatively mediocre in both pitching and hitting, outside of Phil Niekro and JR Richard for the 17 games he started. In raw stats they finished first in least runs allowed. Their offense though was very good that season. Jose Cruz, Cesar Cedeno and Terry Puhl constructed one of the greatest outfields of the last 40 years. They look unimpressive because the Astrodome was one of the worst hitters' parks in the live ball era. In regards to modern teams, one of the problems with running a standard baseball tournament is that you usually need to select deserving teams over the teams you really want to see. This format allows us for once just to take the teams we like. When I run matchups, I'll say something like Cheech13's '04 Red Sox vs. Verne Gagne's '06 Twins. That's why I ask for each person to pick one team. It's not just a competition amongst teams, it's one amongst posters.

It looks like we're getting the 2006 Survivor Series this week along with Spring Stampede, if wwe.com is to be believed.
-
I'll take four more teams. I'd love to see a Cardinals team, the Moneyball A's, and a Cubs team added to the mix.
-
Guys acquired midseason are considered part of the team, provided they got enough playing time to merit inclusion. Pete Schourek was dumped in August, leaving Johnson fifth on the team in starts. That gets him in.
-
We had one somewhere at sometime (maybe in the admin folder). The problem is that it is tedious to update, barely used, and not easy to search. My suggestion would be to create a thread in CS perhaps, and leave it up to individual posters to acknowledge their own name changes.

Here's what I came up with. LF: Rickey Henderson CF: Dave Henderson RF: Jose Canseco DH: Harold Baines 3B: Carney Lansford 1B: Mark McGwire C: Terry Steinbach SS: Walt Weiss 2B: Willie Randolph I won't use a player traded or released mid-season, so no Felix Jose.

I've got 1999-03 on tape/dvd. Volume One seems like a must buy.
-
I wouldn't get too excited. Teams are throwing money out the window, but they seem loathe to part with good prospects. Also, I'd be STUNNED if Volstad made the Majors this season.

1990 Oakland Athletics: Some of you guys chose some tricky teams. The A's at most used the same lineup five times all season. Not just batting order, but lineup.

The whole run of Mr. Bean is on ebay for about $20. It's pretty easy to track down.

He received one first place vote, maybe a second vote. That happens occasionally in Rookie of the Year balloting. The fact is that coming into 1985 he had 60 IP and had certainly exceeded the service time requirement. He was ineligible for the award.

It looks that way on paper, but they'd settled on Tom Henke as the closer by the end of the year over Bill Caudill. Which, of course, turned out to be a spectacularly good move, as Henke was the closer for four more division titles and a World Series, and Caudill flamed out spectacularly in 1986 and was out of baseball a year later. Henke was just amazing in '85 -- if they'd brought him up earlier, he almost certainly would've beaten out Ozzie Guillen for AL Rookie of the Year. Henke exhausted his rookie eligibility before 1985.
