  1. 1992 Toronto Blue Jays (Kahran Ramsus) vs. 1973 New York Mets (devo) The Toronto Blue Jays won their first of two consecutive World Championships. The Mets charged from last place at the All-Star break to a division championship, and then stunned the Cincinnati Red Sox in the NLCS. The Mets lost to the Oakland A's in seven games in the World Series. Their 82 wins are still the lowest total for a World Series team in a full season. Hall of Famers Blue Jays: Dave Winfield, [Roberto Alomar], [David Cone] Mets: Willie Mays, Tom Seaver The Mets featured great starting pitching, an ace reliever in Tug McGraw, but terrible offense. The Toronto Blue Jays had a balance attack, good but not outstanding in every facet. '73 Mets 2, '92 Blue Jays 0 WP: Tom Seaver (1-0) LP: Jack Morris (0-1) You might expect that if the Mets are going to pull out the upset, they will need to do it on the right arm of Tom Seaver. Seaver pitched a two hit shutout here, walking none and striking out eight. A dominant performance. '92 Blue Jays 4, '73 Mets 3 WP: Jimmy Key (1-0) LP: Jerry Koosman (0-1) Sv: Tom Henke (1) Dave Winfield's RBI double in the seventh gave the Blue Jays a 4-3 lead and they held on to win. '92 Blue Jays 4, '73 Mets 0 WP: Juan Guzman (1-0) LP: Jon Matlack (0-1) Guzman and Mike Timlin combined for a five hit shutout. '73 Mets 8, '92 Blue Jays 7 (19 Innings) WP: George Stone (1-0) LP: David Cone (0-1) The Mets started Tom Seaver on short rest and took an early 6-1 lead. After Seaver left however, the bullpen fell apart and surrendered the lead. Both teams scored runs in the 17th. Felix Millan hit an RBI single with two outs in the 19th to drive in the winning run. The Mets tie the series, but burned their game five starter in the process. '92 Blue Jays 8, '73 Mets 3 WP: Jack Morris (1-1) LP: Jerry Koosman (0-2) The Mets were forced to start Jerry Koosman on short rest and he surrendered seven runs in three innings. '92 Blue Jays 6, '73 Mets 2 WP: Jimmy Key (2-0) LP: Jon Matlack (0-2) The Blue Jays took an early lead and never let up. Joe Carter's solo home run sealed the victory in the eighth. Blue Jays win series 4-2 The Mets won a classic game four but paid a heavy price. They burned their game five starter forcing them to push Jerry Koosman up a day and to use Jon Matlack for game six. The Blue Jays face the 1910 Athletics in the second round. Up Next: '06 Twins vs. '89 Orioles
  2. If you're going by levels, Wrestlemania VII was a bigger lie. Wrestlemania III was just a small bit of numbers inflation. When you consider that the AWA and World Class would run stadiums and sell less than half the venue, filling the Pontiac Silverdome was damned impressive.
  3. On WWE's front page, they have an advertisement for Wrestlemania saying "43 days until..." Change the date on your computer, and the number changes.
  4. What I never understood is why we can't just adjust our schedules. Are we so dead set against being up at 5:30 am that we have to change our clocks instead! It's insane when you really think about it.
  5. Vince McMahon's ladder legdrop. Seriously, was that cool or what?

  7. This seems as good a place as any to discuss all baseball games. I bought and enjoyed NCAA '06 last year. This year it's been revealed that EA Sports merely took the rosters from the 2006 game and slapped them onto this year's teams. (For example, the #6 team this year have the rosters from the #6 team last year.) Half the fun of last year's game was that guys like Ryan Zimmerman, Alex Gordon and other recent draftees were in the game, albeit with fake names you could edit. All this game has to offer is a new pitching control. I'm not spending $30 for that.
  8. Another hidden gem, five minutes worth of Patterson/Slaughter on the legends roundtable show.
  9. Two of those went extra innings. Game seven was decided in the ninth inning.
  10. I thought about it, but once I do multiple rounds I can't isolate individual series. I'll do an overall tournament MVP.
  11. The '76 Reds and '72 A's are in the tournament. Let's get this started. 1999 Texas Rangers vs. 2001 Arizona Diamondbacks The Arizona Diamondbacks won 92 games and defeated the New York Yankees in a fantastic World Series to win their first championship. The Texas Rangers won 95 games (the most in franchise history), but suffered an embarrassing first round sweep against the Yankees Hall of Famers Texas: [ivan Rodriguez], [Juan Gonzalez], [Rafael Palmeiro] Arizona: [Curt Schilling], [Randy Johnson] For ineligble players, players scoring 100 or better on Bill James' HOF Monitor are listed in brackets. The Diamondbacks had strong pitching, led by Curt Schilling and Randy Johnson. Their offense was slightly above average thanks to the outstanding season of Luis Gonzalez. The Rangers had a very good offense, bad starting pitching but a great bullpen led by John Wetteland and Jeff Zimmerman. '01 D'backs 6, '99 Rangers 4 (10 Innings) WP: Albie Lopez (1-0) LP: John Wetteland (0-1) Sv: Byung-Hyun Kim (1) Matt Williams hit a two run home run in the 11th to put the Diamondbacks ahead. '99 Rangers 12, '01 Diamondbacks 11 (11 Innings) WP: Danny Patterson (1-0) LP: Robert Ellis (0-1) Wow. I'm not even going to attempt to describe this. Let me just give you the play by play of the ninth inning. The Rangers lead 8-7, trying to close out the game... Top of the Ninth John Wetteland relieves Tim Crabtree Tony Womack doubles Craig Counsell sacrifices catcher to first, Womack to third Luis Gonzalez hits a home run, Womack scores Mark Grace flies to center Reggie Sanders doubles Erubiel Durazo singles, Sanders scores Matt Williams doubles, Durazo to third Jeff Zimmerman relieves John Wetteland Steve Finley singles, Williams and Durazo score Damian Miller grounds out, shortstop to first Diamondbacks 11, Rangers 7 Bottom of the Ninth Juan Gonzalez hits a home run Byung-Hyun Kim relieves Erik Sabel Rafael Palmeiro walks Todd Zeile flies to center Lee Stevens flies to center Royce Clayton walks, Palmeiro to second Tom Goodwin triples, Palmeiro and Clayton score Mark McLemore triples, Goodwin scores Ivan Rodriguez flies to center Diamondbacks 11, Rangers 11 Todd Zeile led off the bottom of the 11th with a home run off of Robert Ellis to win the game. '01 D'backs 2, '99 Rangers 1 WP: Miguel Batista (1-0) LP: Esteban Loaiza (0-1) Sv: Kim (2) The Diamondbacks scored two in the fifth and held on for the victory. '99 Rangers 2, '01 D'backs 1 (11 Innings) WP: Mike Venafro (1-0) LP: Greg Swindell (0-1) Sv: John Wetteland (1) Tom Goodwin hit an RBI single in the 11th to give the Rangers the lead. '01 D'backs 6, '99 Rangers 5 (11 Innings) WP: Erik Sabel (1-0) LP: Mike Munoz (0-1) Yet another extra inning game saw the Diamondbacks win when Mark Grace reached on Mike Munoz's throwing error, allowing Tony Womack to score. '01 D'backs 8, '99 Rangers 5 WP: Curt Schilling (1-0) LP: Rick Helling (0-1) The Diamondbacks took an 8-1 lead and cruised to a series clinching victory. 2001 Diamondbacks win series 4-2 I was not expecting this series to be this good. Four of the six games went into extra innings, and the second game was the damnest thing I have ever seen in a baseball game, real or simulated. The Diamondbacks advance to face the 2001 Mariners in round two. Up Next: '92 Blue Jays vs. '73 Mets
  12. A bit off topic here. Yahoo has their fantasy baseball leagues up. Their free leagues offer up really truly shitty times for live drafts.
  13. Shea Stadium: 1972-1980
  14. This storm is an utter disaster. Interstate I-80 is closed in parts of my county, a full two days after the storm ended. Considering we should be used to this stuff, it's ridiculous.
  15. If you're going to go with a catcher besides Mauer, you've got to take Earl Battey. His raw numbers are unimpressive because he played in the 1960s. He won three Gold Gloves however and represented the Twins four times in the All-Star game. Harper never made an All-Star team.
  16. I was wondering about the timing of that match. Dynamite fucked his back in December of '86 so it would have been quite a feat for him to wrestle a singles match four months later.
  17. Wrigley Field was almost one of the first parks to install lights. They were donated to the war effort in 1941 however before a game could be played.
  18. Wrestlemania V also ran against a Clash of the Champions (Steamboat/Flair).
  19. Not to speak for Verne, but first off he's using Twins only, so that makes it 1961-2006. I think there is no doubt Mauer will be the franchise catcher, the only thing he needs is to accumulate playing time. He's tenth on the list of games played at catcher, he should be 6th this time next year if he enjoys a healthy season. Here are a few leaderboards... 20. Because merchandise sales equal income, wrestling is a business and the point of professional wrestling is to make money. Why should a wrestling promoter give up profits for the purpose of maintaining a title's "prestige." Certainly a title needs to maintain a certain level, but changing the design of a belt to the spinner form has not had a terrible effect.
  21. Because Cena being a draw is valid. And if you continue to insult other posters when making your posts, you can take a vacation.
  22. You made your point, Bob made his. Cena draws money and is over. All you've done is rehash the same tired arguments.
  23. Besides Hughes, there's Humberto Sanchez, Tyler Clippard coming up fast. Ian Kennedy, Joba Chamberlain and Dellin Betances are down in the lower end of the system. Then there's J.Brent Cox whose season will go a long way in deciding where Mariano Rivera ends up after this season. They've got quite a few interesting guys.
  24. Prime Time Wrestling saw Fabulous Moolah vs. Leilani Kai. Moolah's matches are just awful, awful. She didn't seem incredibly popular, so it's amazing that this charade of a 62 year old woman holding a world title could continue for so long. The Jumping Bomb Angels, however, were the shit.
  25. They just signed a new CBA so we're safe for the forseeable future. I doubt these contracts are really bankrupting teams.
