  1. Only injuries can stop Felix Hernandez at this point. If you are seriously interested in prospects, pick up John Sickels' Prospect Book when it comes out in February. I find it an invaluable resource.
  2. The series will begin at Yankee Stadium, since the Yankees won the division and thus home field advantage.
  3. The Cardinals I can accept because I was a huge Ozzie Smith fan.
  4. Don't worry I'm doing it for you. I just paid 10$ for the audio pass so I could listen to this game. (crys) At least with Gameday Audio, you can listen to game archives.
  5. That should have read "NOT such an indefensible move." I edited my earlier post.
  6. You absolutely pitch Curt Schilling in game one. You also have to pitch Pedro in game two, to assure he gets two starts in. Pedro might have been shaky lately in Yankee Stadium, but not to the extent that I'd trust Arroyo over him.
  7. To close the K-Rod/Washburn argument, I personally would not have made the move. My position is simply that it is not such a bad move that it is indefensible. There are legitimate reasons for the move, and it simply turned out badly.
  8. fjsafjkdf. You were the one that did the most bitching in the first place!
  9. I don't have your platoon splits, but I assume not. This is not a simple matter of left vs. right, with no other variable involves. I presented some numbers earlier, but they failed to penetrate the brick wall. Of course. Jarrod Washburn had a lower OBP against lefties than did Francisco Rodriguez. LOWER. K-Rod's opponents' OPS jumps 178 points when Rodriguez faces a left handed batter. Platoon splits do matter. No, because he is not as good against lefties as are Gordon or Rivera. We are NOT talking about a simple matter of any generic lefty instead of K-Rod.
  10. You forgot to note how Max refuses to say how Jarrod Washburn gave the Angels a better shot at winning than K-Rod This season, Francisco Rodriguez allowed a .212 batting average against lefties, while Jarrod Washburn allowed a .225 average against lefties. The situational split there cuts the difference to twelve points. But there is more. Ortiz is an EXTREME platoon player. He hit 326/411/671 against righties, and 250/315/469 against lefties. That's a difference of over 200 points of OPS. Ortiz is a completely different pitcher against lefties. Then we consider that Rodriguez had pitched over two innings, while Washburn was fresh. And finally, Ortiz is just 2-7 lifetime against Washburn.
  11. Spinks will never get a better payday than Trinidad. The part about the alphabet organizations stripping Spinks is just plain silly. No real boxing fan gives a flying fuck about what those organizations do anymore.
  12. It should be noted that Ortiz has a sizable platoon split. It was a defensable move.
  13. There's been a change of plans. Due to the overwhelming excitement of the WNBA Finals, that will be our main theme of discussion during the chat.
  14. We do have live chat this evening for those who are interested. Copy and past into your browser.... aim:gochat?roomname=tsmbaseballchat
  15. You go to the league page on that evening, and there should be a link on the main page. Make sure to get your java downloaded in advance, and make sure everything works. Get there a few minutes early.
  16. Ok gang. I'm starting up the chat a little early. For those of you with AIM, copy and paste this link into your browser... aim:gochat?roomname=tsmbaseballchat
  17. Damn. Just damn.
  18. Do we really need an in-game update for a game that occured two days ago?
  19. A poor man's Don Mattingly, I would assume. Millar has been a great fielder this season. And at 32, Mattingly hit 291/364/445. That's not far from Kevin Millar. When statistics go wrong. Its a bit tounge in cheek.
  20. A poor man's Don Mattingly, I would assume. Millar has been a great fielder this season. Kevin Millar? Hell, in every game I've seen it's taken all his effort to move in the general direction of the ball. There's alot that goes into fielding, even that you don't see on tv. Perhaps Millar is excellent at setting up before the play. Win Shares rates him as the second best fielding first baseman in the league. And this is a system that rates Tino Martinez and Don Mattingly as "A" fielders.

  22. Just not with this team. ::gasp:: They most know the secret! Yes. Compile an insanely good record in one run games. Which is somehow a sign that they're going to sink to the depths of hell? 89 games is hardly the depths of hell, except to a Yankees fan. But would you expect to run this pitching staff on the field again and expect to win 100 games? Of course not. The Yankees need improvements to maintain their current level.
  23. And I would like to add that anyone who has taken a statistics class knows that the outlier does not negate the rest of the evidence.
  24. Just not with this team. ::gasp:: They most know the secret! Yes. Compile an insanely good record in one run games. The common link with these teams is Mariano Rivera.
  25. We had some success with a live chat for a Red Sox/Yankees game earlier this season, and given the length of this thread thus far, I will probably run a live chat for tonight's game as well.
