Edgar Martinez has indeed rejoined the Seattle Mariners for yet another year. Marinez has posted a .400+ OBP for the last NINE seasons. Martinez has lost a little power, but he'll remain a serious threat in the Mariners' lineup.

The Yankees have declined Wells' $6 million option, and Wells becomes a free agent. Wells might be a good pickup, as he doesn't walk many batters. If you look at the statistics, Wells is almost exactly the same pitcher as Jamie Moyer, as odd as that sounds.

Willie Randolph takes over as bench coach, Lee Mazzilli becomes the third base coach, and Luis Sojo is the new first base coach. Any other 80s NY legends the Yankees are missing?
-
Anyone else think they should call the new stadium the Aquarium?

I looked into what Win Shares ranked as the best fielders. Its not a perfect method, but its the best statistical method out there. C- Ramon Hernandez 1B- John Olerud 2B- Orlando Hudson SS- Jose Valentin 3B- Eric Chavez OF- Mike Cameron, Torii Hunter, Carlos Beltran A few points here. First off, Molina led by rate, but misses out because he missed time in September. Had he played more, he would've led all catchers. John Olerud's leading first basemen is an indicator that his winning the gold glove is legit. Ichiro led among right fielders. Carlos Beltran is easily the most unheralded star in the majors.

Harpring and Iverson both drop 30+, and its looking good so far.

I would point out that Andruw Jones is a better center fielder than the three Bored mentioned as well.

So who's to say Dotel isn't? Dotel didn't pitch well when he closed, but NO ONE on the Astros staff that year could pitch worth a damn.
-
I've also read the news on ESPN.com, so its legit.
-
(Evil laughter in background) Yes I did. And I, who drafted Vince Carter, am reaping the benefits.

Another three weeks for MVP awards?! Damnit, those ballots are mailed in the first week of October.
-
A F slot was empty. StR, I'm glad you took care of that. I'd rather lose a competitive matchup than win an uncontested won. Of course I could always lose anyway, but this ensures that doesn't happen.

Duckworth worries me. His achillies heel the last two years is his HR rate, and he's moving to Minute Maid Park.
-
1. That was three years ago. Would you honestly make personnel decisions on three year old data. There's three full seasons of stats to back up the claim that Dotel can pitch effectively. 2. We're talking 2000 here. NO ONE on the Astros pitching staff that year could pitch worth a damn. Their best starter had a 4.81 ERA, and the other four had ERAs above 5. Wade Miller had a 5.14 ERA. Should he not start games now for the Astros? Jose Lima had a 6.65 ERA. Should he not start now for the Royals? Shane Reynolds had a 5.22 ERA. Should he not start for the Braves? (Well yeah, but you get the point) Fact is, Dotel slashed his walk rate after the 2001 season. Any pitcher who can strike out over a batter an inning while keeping his walks below 3 per 9 IP is fully capable of closing games, in my book.

My opponent hasn't thought to start a second forward as of yet. This could be a cakewalk if he doesn't.

Vin Baker doesn't suck for a week and its a renaissance! No objections to the Sixers in either ranking. I think that they've got a better team than people realize, but its up to them to prove it.

Quite obviously I'm excited about this trade. Wagner is probably the third best closer in the National League, behind Gagne and Smoltz. He's a tremendous upgrade over Mesa, and he's the best closer the Phillies have had since Tug McGraw. Wagner doesn't fuck around. He'll go in, throw strikes, and get batters out. As for the prospects, Taylor is an excellent AA prospect, and he's really the jewel of this trade from where the Astros are sitting. He could find his way to the rotation by 2005. The Phillies have lots of depth in the minor leagues, so they can afford to let pitching go in order to improve the big club.

I would've beaten quite a few teams with my numbers, so I'm happy with my week 1 performance. Hopefully I get some better luck this week.
-
It was on there so Lawler could share his nosebleed anectode. I didn't mind it myself.
-
I was wondering why you hadn't done anything. You probably noticed my Devean George pickup, although it cost me Keon Clark. This is one loose end the rules should've tied up. We really shouldn't be able to make roster changes mid-week. (by changes I mean adding/dropping players, and trades)
-
I don't know. Its reasonable to think Malone may drop 9 free throws, in which case the game is tied.
-
Iverson needs 1 more 3 to tie that catagory.
-
Looking over the roster. I didn't even know Omar Daal was on the team. I would think at this point the O's would pick from Daal, Lopez, and John Stephens to fill the 5th starter's spot. The rotation actually looks half decent. They're better served shoring up their offense.
-
Don't forget I have Allen Iverson and Kenny Thomas yet to play tonight.
-
Marvin- wouldn't Rodrigo Lopez be the 5th starter?
