  1. Yeah, 78 games last season. He also started 20 games leading off in 1997.
  2. In a perfect world, he's have a center field job somewhere for a non-contender. He's not a great outfielder, but he's probably better than some starter out there in the majors.
  3. Shoot, thanks for letting me know.
  4. Nothing beyond a 1-0 game going into the fourth.
  5. Anyone else watching the Angels/Twins game?
  6. For comparison's sake, the 1968 White Sox hold the record for fewest runs in a full 162 game season, with 468. That was a pitchers' paradise, but six position players failed to clear a .300 OBP. Pitcher Joe Horlen posted a 2.37 ERA and got a losing record for his efforts. Pity starters Gary Peters, Cisco Carlos and Bob Priddy. The trio combined for a 3.77 ERA in 59 starts, and went 11-38 combined.
  7. I gotta say, while the Phils' game was disappointing there have been some good openers this year. Red Sox/A's, Nats/Braves, Royals/Tigers and now this.
  8. Holy Shit! Fukudome. Edit: There's a strike for you.
  9. I propose a pair of three-way trades, on May 31 and July 31. The jist of it would be that the Phillies, Cubs and Brewers would all exchange Gagne, Wood and Gordon and hold them for two months apiece.
  10. WWE really needs to do a full dvd on Andre. It's uncharted territory, Andre would obviously sell, there's tons of footage, seems like a no brainer.
  11. Thank goodness the Nats weren't able to get to the backend of the Phils' bullpen, or that might've been ugly.
  12. What the hell is the point of a double switch when you're down by four in the ninth? If you get to the tenth, you have to send seven men to the plate at minimum.
  13. I think I'm beginning to see potential problems with our interim closer.
  14. I think stupid pitcher behavior is defined by Brett Myers catching a throw back from his catcher with a bare hand (his pitching hand), with a runner on third base.
  15. In fairness, how often will the Mets need a big hit against the Phils? The term "hot start" means nothing to the Phils. If they start 1-6 again, ugh.
  16. As far as the african-american percentage, I think the big issue is simply that football and basketball offer greater scholarship opportunities. Black athletes have plenty of opportunity, they just pursue other sports. The White Sox have Danny Richar, but he's on the disabled list. Pablo Ozuna is a temporary fix until Richar returns. Baker is an idiot, that we know. Bruce only had a 1/3 season in AAA, so that's not a big deal. Votto should be playing right now, but it's not like Hatteberg is awful. Keeping Votto on the bench though at his age is detrimental. Wellemeyer gave the Cards a 3.11 ERA right now. Reyes went 2-14 with a 6.04 ERA. I can see why the Cards would be loathe to put Reyes back in. They should trade him.
  17. On a lighter note, Joe McEwing is the batting coach for AAA Charlotte. That makes me chuckle a bit.
  18. Scranton/Wilkes Barre raised their single game ticket prices by $3 apiece. YAY YANKEES!!!! Fuckers.
  19. I'd rather freeze my ass off then live another week without baseball.
  20. I'm watching the game. Great to see Nick Johnson back in action.
  21. A) They're going to Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. Not exactly a long haul. B) The Nationals are playing at 4:00, while Atlanta has a night game. I agree, though, that it makes no sense why the Braves and Nats couldn't just open with a three game series. It's not a long trip, but consider that the Phillies get to hit the Nats' #2-3 starters with Brett Myers and Cole Hamels. I shouldn't complain too much.
  22. The Nationals at least have a fresh unjaded fanbase, and real young talent.
  23. Checking it out, a lot of this is a gross simplification. Some of this is outright wrong.
  24. I guess ESPN was right.
  25. Didn't catch the Marvin/WP "I'm a more pathetic loser than you" feud, hmm? If he's thinking the way I am, we're talking in terms of mismatches.
