WWE General Discussion - January 2008

I think you are hoping for a lot. I don't think they'll change the intro themes but I could be wrong. If they have to do new intro videos to fit 16:9 AR then why not do new music as well while they're at it. -
Garrett will take the matching offer to stay in Dallas..Id almost count on it. The dallas job could easily be his as early as after next year and it wont be a part of an almost complete rebuild process...

Im too lazy so from the Wikipedia for the fair tax: Another problem is whenever major media reports on the Fair Tax, they almost always dont do enough research and jump to the wrong conclusions based on the concept of "30% sales tax". And Huckabee almost never is mentioned in the same breath with the fair tax even though he's the only major supporter of it running for President. It bugs the hell out of me that a candidate backing an actual plan (OH MY GOD AN ACTUAL PLAN) that could help the economy out in numerous ways. If the media actually got its head out of its ass and did research and reported on the benefits of the fair tax (see below), I think Huckabee would appeal to a lot of people. But as it is now, people who even remotely support it are viewed as crazy and given every reason in the world why it wont work, which is dumb since the current tax code is broken and doesn't work anymore either. Someone is going to have to do something during the next term as president or else I believe the economy will be ruined beyond repair and we'll be staring 1929 right in the face and kicking ourselves for not doing anything about it. Benefits : 1) Bring high paying manufacturing jobs back to the US. If people had a nickel for everytime they heard someone complain that the good paying jobs were going overseas, we'd all be rich and wouldn't have to worry about it. The fair tax would turn the Worlds worst country for businesses in terms of corporate tax burden (the corporate tax currently stands at 35%) into a haven for businesses from around the globe who would be fighting to build presences in the US. Eliminating that tax would allow companies to invest in not only physical assets like plants and equipment, but the people that work there through higher wages. 2) More goods made in the US means less prices for US goods making them better options than crap made in China and other countries. It would also mean we'd be exporting more goods than we do now because our goods would be cheaper overseas than they are now. The biggest thing though is what I mentioned earlier, in that we could reverse the economy based on you spending money to manufacturing things like it used to be a while ago. There is no way the economy can maintain itself at 70% fueled by consumer spending, which is also why you hear almost nothing negative about consumer spending, since they don't want to panic people into not spending their money and why they need people to be in debt for the rest of their lives in order to keep the economy going. 3) Environmental impact would be great because used goods would get sold over and over again since they're cheaper instead of ending up in landfills. Also think of all the paper that would get saved not having to worry about mailing the tax forms out each year to millions of people. The 30% tax would apply to gas which would cause people to think of alternative transportation methods and get businesses who are now not taxed away from viable research into alternative fuel technologies into that arena. It wont be 15 or 20 years before we have viable alternatives to gasoline, it'll probably be 5-10. 4) If nothing is done about illegal immigration, then at least the illegal immigrants would pay the fair tax unless they send all of their money to Mexico via a horse (western union or whatever would need to pay the fair tax as well since its a service). Maybe they'd decide to go home? Not to mention the fact that profits from illegal activities such as drugs, prostitution and gambling would in effect be taxed if the people used the profits to buy things. These two areas alone do not pay taxes now and yet would for the most part under fair tax. 5) From everything Ive read, Social Security and Medicare wouldn't end up being a huge burden on the economy in as little as 10 years (you dont have them taken out of your paycheck anymore, but the fair tax goes to help pay for those entitlement programs) 6) People might be motivated to save their money instead of spending every last dime they have, especially for things like retirement, education and healthcare. Costs for education wouldnt be taxed and savings plans for retirement wouldnt be taxed either since its not spending. You get to keep every dime you earn and its up to you, not the government to decide how much of the money you make they get.

Bush's Tax Reform panel in 2006 said fair tax could be revenue neutral as low as 20% but that was 2 years ago so who knows. Prices will drop up to 20% because companies wont have to pay corporate taxes. I guess you could subscribe to theory that companies will just hog all the extra money they save from the elimination of those taxes to themselves as profitd and not invest it in creating new jobs and reducing product prices, but I would imagine it would be very transparent if they did so. "Why does your product still cost X$ when your corporate taxes were eliminated?" "Well..uh..yeah..about that uh.." They'd be faced with other companies that would reduce costs and thus be at a disadvantage in the marketplace and quickly change their tune. And I dont see how anyone would worry about a 3% tax burden increase on the middle class if they were getting to keep almost $4,000 themselves, all other things being equal (government getting the same ammount of money and the family buying the same ammount of goods/services).
-
Their tax share may go up 3% (which isn't massive) but they'll still have more money in their pockets even if they spend every last dime and save nothing. Family of 4, 2 working parents and 2 kids making $60,000 a year: $11,882 total tax on income (19.8%) $48,118 net after taxes If they buy exactly what they bought the year before, if you dont even figure in the predicted 20% price drop, everything will cost 30% more. $48,118 X 30% exclusive(23% inclusive income tax equivalent) = $14,435 or $62,553 Under fair tax, take home pay is $60,000 and a family of 4 would get $5,904 a year in monthly prebate checks back from the government. So their new take home pay is $65,904. $65,904 - $62,553 = $3,351 extra money, not even taking into account prices falling 20%. The number goes up to over $10,000 if you factor that in. Like I said, the #1 reason you wont see this happen is because the rich get a bigger tax break and anytime someone says 30% tax hike, your average joe screams "FUCK THAT I AINT PAYING THAT" but if you actually at least take the time to run numbers and look at all the research you'd see it would be one of the best solutions for the economy. More higher paying jobs for Americans + comparably priced domestic goods compared to foreign + more money to spend (although hopefully it might encourage people to actually save money for a change) + the same amount of money going to the government in taxes as it would under payroll taxes = a good thing. and Id seriously consider voting for Huckabee if I thought this had a chance in hell of getting passed, but we have our John Edwards' fighting for the uneducated middle class that will prevent that from happening...and their taxes will still go up.
-
if "massive tax hike on the middle class" means they get to keep a few thousand dollars more in their own pocket than give it to the government, then fine...theres plenty of math done on other sites that show this.. As far as the black market goes..I suppose people could steal the goods directly from the factory or store, but once the new item is sold, the government gets its money and then it doesnt matter how many times its sold on Ebay or etc, they wouldnt need to pay tax on it again. As it is now, people buy stuff used all the time on Ebay and yard sales etc and dont pay tax like they're supposed to, so I dont see the difference. So yes, demand for used goods would probably soar but is that such a bad thing given the amount of stuff filling landfills because people have to go out and buy new junk every year and throw away their nearly brand new junk just because it doesnt fit a seasonal fashion or its a generation behind in technology. And buying used would increase the middle class buying power even more if you think about it.

when did the highlanders move to SD/ECW?

They don't do pyro on ECW. uh..he had some just now for his entrance

theres pros and cons..but I would think the elimination of corporate taxes bringing high paying factory jobs back to America would be a huge benefit, which seems to be what everyone is screaming for. It would also get the US back on track from the Economy being 70% consumer spending instead of goods manufactured. Id say it would also be good for the environmentalists since recycled materials wouldnt be taxed so companies would have more incentive to used recycled materials since they'd be cheaper. There would be cons but I think the pros outweigh them if the state of the economy is the #1 concern. Edit - everyones main concern with a 23% fair tax (which equals a 30% sales tax) on new goods is that everything will cost more, but if corporate taxes are eliminated then the companies wouldnt have to pass on the cost of taxes to the consumers, so at most the prices would probably stay the same if not be lower. Plus you could always go strictly buying used goods (I guess food might be an exception) and pay no tax since used goods would be exempt.

you're supposed to be "A politician lied..you dont say, Im shocked!" seriously though..it seems like the people of Michigan are living in a vaccum and think that those auto industry jobs will come back there someday..but they aren't...they're going to states like Kentucky and are hiring non union workers. They didnt want to hear the truth that they needed to get off their butts and start learning other job trades (from McCain and others).
-
Romney lied to the Michigan people though saying he's going to bring back the Auto Factories to Michigan. Theres no chance in hell of that happening...er... I keep hearing that if the US goes to the fair tax (the 23% sales tax instead of federal income tax and corporate taxes) that businesses would flood back into the US with their factories to produce goods because it would be cheaper than doing it overseas even with paying american labor, especially given the increased costs of fuel, but that will never happen because it would involve lowering taxes on the rich people and we cant have the rich people getting off paying less taxes because they arent even paying their fair share now at something like 40% of all taxes collected. Edit: Huckabee is running on that tax plan as well..but it will never get passed with a democratic congress.

I get USA and Sci Fi in HD but no CW (alas non cable CW here is a SD subchannel of the ABC station so no chance of that for a long while) My guess on the new sets is that the projector screens used for the trons had to be tweeked so they dont look bad in HD. I cant wait to see the new sets. Id also assume there will be a new intro at least for each show, if not also new music as well. -
I was rooting for Uncomitted on the Democrat side. Putting some truth into "Nobody can beat a democrat in 08" .

So the words to a hokey Irving Berlin song bother her, and the words to music SUNG IN CHURCH don't? Who you crappin', you dumb bitch. Probably is a stupid law, though, I'll give them that. Yet Im sure she spends money at the mall every weekend.. IN GOD WE TRUST. -
are we talking difference between 720p and 1080i or the difference between 1080i downconverted to 720p and 1080i straight up? You can definitely tell the difference between 720 and 1080 with fast motion content (looks better on 720p) and if you're downconverting fast motion content from 1080i to 720p its going to look worse than straight up 720p since theres resolution lost in the downconvert process. Thankfully for those with 720p sets, most fast motion content is done at 720p because of this. Sometimes though you'll get a scenario where NBC does sports (NFL) and they broadcast 1080i..so it looks jittery do to the lack of progressive scan. Most networks do 1080i cause its better for minimal movement shows like dramas and sitcoms. and 720p upconverted on a 1080i set (like I have) makes it look a tad bit better since its upconverting, though its not as noticable of an improvement as a 480p upconvert to 1080i dvd player. I would always have my box set to display native resolution to the program, not the tv and not on a fixed resolution.

At some point wouldnt a cheap laptop be a better option? I never understood the concept of wanting to watch movies on a cell phone or a screen smaller than a deck of cards. -

If they build Rey/Edge even half as well as Hardy/Orton...they might get $50 from me. 2 potentially great title matches and the Rumble itself. Sadly Rey/Edge has "we couldnt do Edge/Batista again and Edge/Taker is for WM and theres no one else left to face Edge, so lets throw Rey in there against him for a month before we go back to Taker/Edge"..its a breath of fresh air in the SD ME scene not having Batista involved but you know its just a short term thing. And even though we know the inevitable truth that Hardy, even if he wins at the RR wont have it come WM, its still an exciting thought that he could get a short title run. Oh, and if they dont give Hardy the belt, it wont probably happen cause Lashley is due back and Cena will be back as well and those two guys along with HHH/HBK will take up the face ME Picture on RAW. Id almost say move Hardy to SD but then they'd fall back on "THE HARDYS" and end the singles push for either of them so...
