The One And Only 24 Season 3 Thread

Bah, thats not true. Remember when everyone thought Jamie committed suicide in season 1 and then they actually went and checked the tape, albeit several hours later, and found out it was Nina that killed her. -

I can just imagine the Comcast Commercials with the Muppets pushing their crappy overpriced Cable, and don't say it won't happen cause the muppets are pushing the crappy overpriced Pizza Hut pizza currently.

Chavo used a move similar in set up to this at No Way Out, but Rey flew backwards and went face first on the mat. Insane Bump Machine said afterwards it was a Gory Guerrero Special but I had never seen the move, much less known what it was called. I thought it looked a lot cooler than the Widows Peak/Vertebreaker.

Yahoo is open for registrations. and, if the Os are trading a 2B to the Yankees, I'd rather them trade Hairston, but they better get someone other than Contreras.

He must not be too superstitious to wear #13. Ok, so heres a fun bet we can all do. How many errors will A-Rod have at 3B in the month of April? Im guessing 6. Im not saying he's going to stink at 3B all year, but I can't see him making the super smooth transition to 3rd without making a few errors in the first month or so.

As much as I love football.. But we have our friend the NFL. Where every team except for maybe 2 has a chance of making the playoffs every year. 2? The Lions Cardinals and Chargers come to mind as perenial losers over the last few years. The Texans can't be expected to make the playoffs in the Same Division with the Colts and Titans. Thats 4 teams right there. I know it means there are still 28 other teams with a chance to make the playoffs, but honestly theres a difference between a chance and a realistic chance. Id say there are probably 20 teams that have realistic chances to make the playoffs in the NFL. Of course, more teams make the playoffs in the NFL than in Baseball but Id still say there are about 16 teams in MLB that have playoff chances this year. The NFL has fewer playoff spots than in the NBA (where you have to be a pretty bad team not to have a least a shot at the playoffs, especially in the East of the NBA)or NHL though.. A hard salary cap with a floor making owners spend money along with their creative franchise and transition tags for FAs make this a good sport. It also means that teams who land the Stud rookies probably won't be able to resign them. Theres also a lot of turnover at the "Non-glamourous" positions because it makes more sense to sign the league minimum guy than resign they guy thats been with the team for more money. No stupid lottery to determine who gets the biggest impact player...if your team sucked the worst then you get the rights to that player first, and one player could be the difference. One player will never be the difference in the NFL, especially a rookie. And I don't see whats so bad about the NBA lottery. It makes it a gamble for teams who know that they aren't going to make the playoffs to risk tanking the rest of the season for the #1 pick. With the NFL, you knew it was between the Raiders and Chargers for the #1 pick and when one team wins, the first words out of fans mouths is "Damn, they could have lost and they'd have a better shot at the #1 pick" Where superstar players are nothing without a good coach who can set up a succesful scheme. The "Superstar" players are often QB, RB and WR. Well, the QB and RB need an offensive line in front of them and the WR need a capable QB to throw them the ball. Sometimes you have coaches that act like they have a brain fart and ignore their best WR/RB in key situations or they wear their key player down by going to them too much. The coach can be the ruin of the great players just as much as he can be their maker. Where the games aren't delayed because of rain, or a slippery spot on the floor that takes 8 people on their knees with towels to clean, or a broken frame of glass. The world could be decending into hell with demons breaking through the turf and I guarentee you a RB would run a couple of them over ignoring their were hell spawns cause his job is to make it to the end zone. Baseball players can't play in rain or thunderstorms because either the ball gets too wet, the field gets too sloppy and it puts the players at risk of injury. Their cleats are metal and they would be at risk by getting struck by lightning. Conveniently enough, in the September regular season NFL games in warm cities, football is often delayed by thunderstorms for the same reason. Football was made to be played in the snow/mud but I don't see how that makes it better than baseball or hockey. Ahhh football, the sport where the greatest gladiators take direction from genius chess players before going into battle. There are several head coaches who should never be even closely associated with the word "Genius" and there are several who are but probably shouldn't be. For instance, Brian Billick was supposedly an "Offensive Genius", even wrote a book about it, but I want to smack him upside hit slicked back hair sometimes. But its not all his fault *evil glare at Matt Cavanaugh*. Football, the one sport where the Championship game could actually be a national holiday. Football...the sport of Gods. Its only the semi national holiday now because its on Sunday, and people always like an excuse to sit around, eat, drink beer and do nothing for a whole day. And most people don't even watch the Super Bowl for the game. And more people in China watched this years Super Bowl than in the US. And we all know the sport of the Gods is feeding people to lions..or something like that from Ancient Greece.

And Millen expressed intrest up until the Redskins said: "Sure, we'll trade Champ Bailey, but we want your 1rst and 2nd round draft picks this year." HAHA. Bailey is a good CB but no team is gonna trade their 1rst and 2nd round draft picks for him, especially the Lions who have a high pick.

No Goldberg interference at all and I would have given it higher. As for the Ref bump and the Goldberg interference, I was hoping that Goldberg wouldn't come back down, but as soon as the ref bump happened (Which I agree with Bps21, was very telegraphed) you knew Goldberg (or someone) was running down to the ring and that sorta negated somewhat to me how good the match was up to that point. Just for it to be Goldberg, who was taken away in handcuffs an hour or so earlier should keep it from going higher. They redeemed it somewhat by not just letting the spear get Eddy the pinfall, and have Eddy block the F-5, but theres no way I could give it higher than **** because of the ending. I suppose I put way to much of a premium on a good ending to a match, but thats just how I am I suppose. -

Well lets see: Too Cool/Bashams - * Noble/Nidia - didnt see APA/WGTT - * Holly/Rhyno - *1/2 Rey/Chavo - ***, woulda been higher except for the lame roll up finish Triple Threat - **1/2 Lesnar/Eddy - **** primarily because of it got 30 minutes and the finish wasn't as lame as it could have been. -
Hockey is 7th on my list of sports behind the other major 3 and NASCAR and College Basketball/Football. About the only time I watch hockey is if either theres nothing else on sports wise and theres a game on Comcast Sports Net/ESPN or during the playoffs. I don't think I'd miss it.

Bud Selig won't say no. And Orioles fans are taking consolation in the fact that the Os now have the 2nd Best SS in the game statistically (Tejada) behind Nomar with A-Rod moving to 3rd. Of course, A Rod at 3rd is about 50x better than Melvin Mora, but the good news for the Orioles is that the Yankees can't go after Eric Chavez next year so the Os might be able to land Chavez next offseason if Mora doesn't pan out at 3rd.
-
Believe it or not, the Orioles payroll will be significantly lower this year than last year even with all the moves that they've made, primarily because they finally were able to get Belle off their roster and they lost a couple other free agents. They would have gone over their payroll from last year had they signed Vlad, but they didn't and so the plan is now to focus on spending more money next year on free agents, and they will have more money next year when they are able to finally get rid of players like Cordova,Segui and Daal ($15 million right there..) who suck and get hurt a lot. Os Payroll for 2004): Miguel Tejada SS $7,000,000 Includes signing bonus David Segui 1B $7,000,000 Final year of contract Javy Lopez C $6,000,000 Includes signing bonus Sidney Ponson RHP $5,000,000 Part of $22.5 million deal Omar Daal LHP $4,500,000 Final year of contract Rafael Palmeiro 1B $4,500,000 Also $1 million incentive Marty Cordova OF $3,500,000 Final year of contract (DL/???) Buddy Groom LHP $3,000,000 Final year of contract Melvin Mora 3B $3,000,000 Part of $10.5 million deal Jay Gibbons RF $2,600,000 1 year contract to avoid arbitration Jerry Hairston 2B $1,650,000 1 year contract to avoid arbitration Mike DeJean RHP $1,500,000 Also $425,000 incentives B.J. Ryan LHP $1,275,000 1 year contract to avoid arbitration Luis Matos CF $975,000 1 year contract to avoid arbitatration B.J. Surhoff UT $800,000 Non-guaranteed minor league contract Kurt Ainsworth RHP $300,000 Under team's control Rick Bauer RHP $300,000 Under team's control Jose Bautista 3B $300,000 Rule 5 pick, under control Larry Bigbie LF $300,000 Under team's control Jack Cust OF $300,000 Under team's control Eric DuBose LHP $300,000 Under team's control Geronimo Gil C $300,000 Under team's control Jorge Julio RHP $300,000 Under team's control Rodrigo Lopez RHP $300,000 Under team's control John Parrish LHP $300,000 Under team's control Matt Riley LHP $300,000 Under team's control Brian Roberts 2B $300,000 Under team's control Total 2004 Payroll - $55,900,000 Final 2003 Payroll - $73,877,500 After this season when the O's get rid of Cordova, Daal and Segui's contracts as well as Groom's (who probably will be traded at the deadline) contract, their payroll will only be about $37 million, allthough Im not factoring in the higher salaries that some players will make next year, but it will still be in the $40-50 million range which means they'll have money to spend next year as well, probably/hopefully on pitching.

Who was the last wrestler to have an orange shirt (Im hoping..) So, obviously RVD will end up quitting wrestling and become a commentator on Heat.
-
The Os Starting Rotation isn't that great, but the big factor is the fact that at least 3 of the pitchers are young and have a lot of upside (Ainsworth, Riley, Dubose). Ponson's going to have to be the #1 guy, and Rodrigo Lopez is going to have to prove that 2 years ago wasn't a fluke. Then next year between free agency (The Orioles will have money to spend next year) and the guys in the minors (John Maine specifically) the Rotation should be a strong point next year. The one thing Os fans are holding on to is the fact that the offense should score more runs and give the pitchers more run support, something that the pitching staff hasn't gotten a lot of in the last 5+ years.
-
Uhuh. So where do they finish? in THAT pathetic division any team is a possibility. The Yankees will be lucky to finish 2nd since Baltimore, Toronto, and Boston have all significantly improved, while the Yankees have stayed the same, if not worse. 6 straight years (I think) of : Yankees Red Sox Blue Jays Orioles D-Rays ..is probably going to end, even if its just a switch of the Yankees and Red Sox in first place. And lets all remember that Lou Piniella has guaranteed that the Devil Rays won't finish in last place this year. Being an Os fan, it would be awesome to have the Os finish higher than the Yankees but realistically I doubt that will happen. Im looking more towards 2005 in terms of the Os being able to actually compete for the Division.
-
do they still have the "report a mistake get 10% off at Shopzone" thing going?
-
Well if it wasn't for the fact that everytime they would play it you would think Linda McMahon was coming down to the ring, they could use the Old Wrestlemania theme song.
-
What about that really disgusting fish?

I ended the quick week with a 4-4 tie with Pocono Poison, but with everyone else winning substantially it looks like Im going to fall further out of 6th place games behind wise although theres a bit more seperation between me and the 10th + place teams.
