Wonder Boys 1996?

Game Show Network started airing reruns of The Amazing Race at 9 & 12 E.S.T, I think six nights a week, on Monday. They started with season one and have aired the first 4 shows, I've only watched the first three. Some observations: I know that it's been mentioned that Phil Keoghan is from New Zealand, but I never noticed an accent. In the first season an small accent is noticable. I wonder if he intentionally tried to lose it? The producers and editors have gotten a lot better at their jobs. Sometimes they skip over early teams completing the detour and just show them arriving at the pitstop. One time a team went to the wrong location and we only seeing them realizing they've made a mistake but not how they figured out where they were supposed to go. Some of the detours have been really boring choices: Air or land - teams arrive at the top of a large hill a must decide wether to walk the trail back down or take a zip line and then bungee jump down the hill. Near or Far - Teams are in an African village, are given cameras and the choice of taking pictures of three animals that will be close by- but tough to find- or driving about 90 km away and finding taking a picture of an elephant -which will be easy to find. Every team chose air and near. The 3rd detour was at least comparable to the ones they do now. Maybe the shows have been edited but there dosen't seem to be a prize for finishing first on a leg. I thought maybe they edited it out since they didn't want to air Phil's plug for whoever sponsered the trip, but in the this season it appears Phil only greets the team that finishes last. I think GSN is showing every season. So this is good for those of us who only got into it recently (I started watching halfway through season 6). EDIT: I was mistaken, they're showing the reruns seven days a week.

When Brutis Beefcake showed up on Raw at the Manhattan Center to set up his appearence at WM IX he did an in ring interview where he talked about how after the boating accident distroyed his face he got slapped with divorce papers by his wife and then his parents died. Apparently after Brutis told this story you copuld hear someone in the crowd yell "kill yourself".

There's a local columnist here who raved about a place called Lombardi's. A couple of time's a year he prints a letter from someone who's going to New York and want to know the name of the place he raved about. Lombardi's, 32 Spring Street in Little Italy

I dont think Wrestlepalooza was nearly as bad as folks like SK made it sound. Snow-Douglas was a decent match considering Shane was crippled, RVD-Sabu was a pretty good spotfest, Dreamer/Sandman vs Dudleys and New Jack-Bigelow were fun brawls, and the undercard was ok. I take it you didnt like it though, and thats cool. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I didn't hate it as much as is just left me with a feeling of "this is what the hype was all about ". I got the next ppv, Heatwave '98, and it was a hundred times better.

Titan Sports was the corporate name for the WWF. I had heard the phrase "Titan Tower" to describe the headquarters in Stanford used by the likes of PWI, Meltzer, and Keller. I've never heard Vince or anyone who works there refer to it as such on tv. Shortly before or at the time of the company going public, they announced the corporate name was changing to "WWF Entertainment Inc." I think people still call it that because there just used to the name. The idea of calling it something else reminds me of how when the name change happened CRZ started refering to the "Titan-tron" as the "Entertainment-tron" in his recaps. BTW, I remember a newsletter reporting that after Sean Mooney left the company and got gigs anchoring the news in NY and Boston that on his resume he listed that he had worked for Titan Sports instead of the WWF.

We never got ECW TV until the TNN show and Time Warner Cable was the absolutely last cable system to give clearence to ECW PPV's. So the first time I saw ECW was Wrestlepalooza '98. What a introduction, huh (sarcasm).

Valentine was wrestling Saba Simba at MSG. Jimmy Hart tried to hit Simba with the megaphone, but he ducked and the megaphone hit valentine instead. They showed the footage on tv and said that Valentine had fired Jimmy as a result. Earthquake vs Valentine WM 7 was the match that came out of it. The Mountie got introduced through a series of vignettes. Someone would commit a crime like littering or jaywalking and The Mountie would show up on horseback and send them to jail for 20 years or something like that.

USA is airing the AFI Tribute to George Lucas tonight. Word out of the taping is that when Peter Jackson appeared in a filmed tribute, he looked like he had lost 100 pounds and shaved off his beard. I figured if he'd had stomach stapled we would have heard about it. I guess we'll find out. Here's where I got it from.

After seeing Flock of Seagulls and The Motels on Bands Reunited, it's almost some kind of a let down to just see the lead singers on this show.

I thought the last few seconds of the finale clearly showed that ladder only had about 3 or 4 steps, then the next step was unhinged/half destroyed, then there were no more steps and it just went on with nothing on the sides to grab on to.

After getting fired the first time, they brought him back during the summer of '94. He announced Raw for a couple of weeks while Vince was on trial. I think he got canned again after Vince got aquitted and they didn't need him anymore.

Found it at a Wal-Mart here for $22.84 The JYD-Savage match and the clips of the Savage-Steamboat match have Jesse Ventura's commentary edited out. I thought their issues were settled. But if Jesse's commentary would have to be edited out of WM's I-VI in order for them to get a DVD release, I'd rather watch my tapes.

I'm happy to hear this since I didn't watch the first 5 1/2 seasons of this show.
