I think of cicadas as more like big dumb stupid flies. They don't bite, or sting, they just bitch whenever you hurt one. They just wiggle around and buzz a lot. They have less than the survival traits of a slug. Their survival trait is, there are millions and millions and millions of us, so all our predators will be far too full to eat us all! They are by far the most tame bug I have ever seen. You can like carry one on your shoulder all day if you wanted to, it wouldn't do anything about it.

If a Prius another hybrid is twice as efficent as your gas guzzler, then it's like gas is costing you half as much per tank right? If you're complaining about $2, you'd be fine with $1, right? Oh, I'm sorry, I guess 100% better isn't good enough for you. The MPG rating is always a little over what regular usage would be, for any car. I'll admit 10 MPG is too much of an error though.

I was on the crosswalk because I had rode on a bike path to an intersection. I had the light and crossing signal, and was about to bike across the street, when the van to my left suddenly drove over my bike. Yes, I had the right of way, I wasn't even MOVING. He was so focused on oncoming traffic on his left that he didn't look right, which was where he was turning. I would love to be recognized as a vehicle and NOT a pedestrian, and I drive on the road as much as possible. But sometimes you gotta leave the road or either hit a car or be run off the road. It's not like we want to own the lane, we just want the shoulder, which usually has a three - six foot space outside of the white line at the right side of the road. Thats it. I wasn't hit on the road. If I had been on foot, I could practically have been hit in the same way.

I would just like to add to this conversation that I was just completely hit by a car today on my ride to work. I was at a crosswalk, about to cross when some guy peeled out and was looking left when turning right. My front half of the bike is fubar. I'm fine but still. Man. MY BIKE :(

In the state of MD, a bike is considered a "vehicle" and thus is SUPPOSED to be used on the road. I bike to and from work everyday. I have for a year now. There is nothing worse than assholes who have to lean on their horn and scream at you when they pass you because you're on your bike. As if there is anything more likely to cause an accident. I have every legal right to bike in the middle of the fucking lane if I want to, and if there's no shoulder, I HAVE to. Of course I don't, because I don't trust College Park drivers AT ALL. But roads ARE for bikes, if you feel otherwise take it up with your local lawmaker.
