The US Economy and Current Financial Crisis
Cheech Tremendous replied to Cheech Tremendous's topic in Current Events
I really thought this bailout would provide a little relief in the short term, but I may have been dead wrong. Things are heading south fast. -
What is your point? Everyone was confused by your "no organization encourage discussion" spiel. Maybe if you say it louder we'll all get it.
-
Why are you yelling?
-
'Bout fucking time. According to the LA Times article other retailers will just purchase mass quantities from Best Buy and sell them in their stores, so the "exclusive" tag is somewhat misleading. Anyone want to take guesses on how many units are sold the first week? And where do I get my free Dr. Pepper?
-
Well, according to Czech's post I won. Sort of.
-
Good thing I'm not Jewish. That would be a deal-breaker for me.

WWE General Discussion - October 2008
Cheech Tremendous replied to DrVenkman PhD's topic in The WWE Folder
I was checking out Google Trends this morning and Nancy Benoit was the 6th hottest search of the day. Weird. -
Wait, what's this... a Cleveland show? Do tell. I have no clue what you guys are talking about.
-
I just couldn't get into last night's episode. Haven't seen the new Indiana Jones movie, so that sort of fell flat. Besides, didn't they already do that storyline for the SE Star Wars? Cartman and Butters had potential with the China thing, but it lost steam right away. Worst episode for me since Oprah's vag got a starring role.

That was not the best sentence you've ever written, is it Cheech. No, sir, it is definitely not. Why even bother at this point? I don't know how much we really accomplish by having the thing split now years into its existence and one month before it effectively ends. Might as well keep it around for posterity's sake. Let it serve as a monument to an unfettered TSM posting world, where loose moderating and poster excess ruled the day. Probably wouldn't hurt to have a new thread for this last month. Unpin the other and call the new one "McCain/Obama: The Stretch Run", or some shit like that. I don't like subforums. I could be in the minority though.
-
Then let's make the whole board one big fucking thread. We can just drop in whenever we want and post about anything. It will be awesome. Look, let's define what we are talking about here. If you sit down on your computer, log in to TSM, write out a post and click Add Reply, aren't you at least thinking that the thought will initiate discussion or provoke thought? If not, then what the fuck are we here for? To just post something as catharsis and hope it disappears into the ether? I am just of the opinion that most comments can fit somewhere, thereby "warranting" a thread. And if we need to have the TSM binky around (CWDWAT) to make sure people still post, well then that's fine too, as long as it is moderated and relevant discussion is directed elsewhere. Is this so crazy?
-
This board is 90% nonsense and it always will be. Doesn't really matter how it's organized. Also, bad thread gets started, bad thread get closed, poster gets warned, the end. Why do people believe that we will end up with mass chaos unless we have our precious CWDWAT?
-
I don't think that there's a hard and fast rule to this stuff. Like I said, it's the threads that meander on without any discernible point or end in site that are bad. At least in the case of an Offseason Thread it's only going to go a couple of months. Even then, there are natural break points when new threads can be created. In baseball you have the Winter Meetings, then pitchers and catchers reporting... there are points when new thoughts start and threads can begin anew. As to what actually warrants a thread? I'm no authority. Posters won't figure that out on there own and there's no TSM Guidebook (that I know of) that tells us when something is warranting a thread. If a moderator is reading a thread and a new topic gets more than a handful of responses, just split it out. Moderators shouldn't tell us how to drive, but they can help direct the traffic.

I recently realized that I know next to nothing about Joy Division, a band that is often mentioned as a major influence from the post-punk era. I've downloaded a couple of songs over the years and have enjoyed them, but have never felt compelled to explore the catalog. So, TSM Music Nerds, please educate me on Joy Division. Tell me where to start and what I'm going to find along the way. I understand that the catalog is thin, with just two studio albums and a couple of collections of rarities, but what do I need to hear and what, if anything, do I skip? Best songs? Must-buy albums? Bands to explore next? Feedback required.

Czech effectively summed up my feelings on this issue, and since he resides in management I'll let this thing drop. I do hope that there might be a little pressure placed on the mods to you know, moderate, and carry out some of these Official Staff Opinions. I personally like all of the current moderators but I get the sneaking suspicion that some of them aren't really doing much. But that's neither here nor there, so for the day let's just say thumbs up for a positive response from the staff. Oh and...

Nah, we're all sitting on the sidelines reminiscing about good TSM fights. This one's just pathetic.

Comments which don't warrant a thread.

Has anyone noticed a precipitous decline in the quality of this folder since we switched from Chocolate Socket to Chocolate Negro? It's just not working (hey look at that, something named negro not working). I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'. -
Not for me. I didn't really care much for Shawn or his act at that point. The thing I wanted most was for Austin to finally beat Bret on the big stage. I can't think of better symmetry than Austin winning the title and avenging his loss at Mania one year after the Submission match and double turn. The whole story heading into XIV was Austin was assuming the company's top position, and it should have been built on him beating Bret. Shawn just seemed like a placeholder in a feud he wasn't part of.

Can't believe that no one mentioned that Elgin Baylor is out as VP of Basketball Operations for the Los Angeles Clippers. Isiah Thomas, Matt Millen, Elgin Baylor... not a good time to be a bad GM. Check out these team stats racked up over 22 seasons under Baylor's watch: - Two seasons with a record over .500 - Twelve seasons with less than 30 wins - Eleven seasons finishing in last place - Five seasons with 17 wins or less (That means once every 4 years or so during Baylor’s march to glory, the Clippers got crazy and won at the very most, 17 games.)

Seahawks Stadium (Qwest Field) is awesome. You're going to have a fantastic time. I guess it's your first NFL game so you have no basis for comparison, but the noise level, sight lines and all that jazz are phenomenal. Rowdy fans, yeah they exist. But these guys are northwest rowdy, not Oakland rowdy. You'll be fine.

These analysts are really drilling the whole "that one" comment by McCain. Honestly, who gives a fuck? I was more concerned that McCain doesn't think that people know what Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are. What a condescending prick statement.

That angle from 1999 where he was repackaged as "The Total Package" was so bizarre. The new character was really nothing different from what he was playing before. I seem to remember them even having a funeral or something for the old Lex Luger character too. What the hell was the point of all that?

It's nice not having to pay sales tax, but they rape us homeowners on property taxes. -
I'm fine with that being #2, it's just that "The Message" should have been #1. I like Public Enemy and all, but "Fight The Power" doesn't really do it for me.
