  1. I'm actually rlly intrigued by OKC's roster (or at least by Durant/Westbrook/Green/next year's top 3 pick; Earl Watson and all those 7-foot stiffs can go piss up a rope). Too bad the organization itself is so completely loathsome.
  2. Wow, that was a pretty disastrous loss for the Pistons. This team has srs problems right now (Iverson's not fitting in, Hamilton is slumping like whoa and might need to be traded, Rasheed is Rasheed, the bench is regressing) and I'm not sure Michael Curry is well-equipped to deal with any of them. Oh well, if they keep playing like this they're going to have a ton of cap space and a lottery pick or two coming their way, so I guess the future is somewhat bright (?)
  3. Maybe it's because the views expressed here are more in line w/ my own politics, but from what I've seen our echo chamber isn't quite as fever swampy as theirs (though SuperJerk's def. doing his best to even the playing field).
  4. Almost all the songs I really loved have been voted out GROUP A Respect" by Aretha Franklin "Cupid" by Sam Cooke "The House Of The Rising Sun" by the Animals "I Heard it Through the Grapevine" by Marvin Gaye GROUP B "Hey Jude" by The Beatles "Fortunate Son" by Creedence Clearwater Revival "A Day in the Life" by The Beatles "Daydream Believer" by The Monkees GROUP C "Space Oddity" by David Bowie "Street Fighting Man" by The Rolling Stones "The Weight" by The Band "God Only Knows" by The Beach Boys GROUP D "Venus in Furs" by The Velvet Underground "Like a Rolling Stone" by Bob Dylan "Gimme Shelter" by Rolling Stones "Norwegian Wood" by The Beatles
  5. They've reportedly been shopping Kaman. Baron/Ricky Davis/Thornton/Randolph/Camby is a kinda intriguing line-up. Too bad Dunleavy will have no idea what to do with it. Speaking of line-ups. what the fuck are the Knicks going to trot out there? Duhon/Mobley/Q/Chandler/Lee? That's not going to win very many games.
  6. I'm not disagreeing with that. High school teachers obv. need to be at least somewhat schooled in the art of pedagogy to be at all effective. All I'm saying is that I think the privileging of method/theory over expertise is having a detrimental effect on our education system. This is way more noticeable in the humanities than it is in math/science, as it's slightly harder to bullshit your way through the latter. Like, it's pretty obvious if a Calculus teacher has no idea what he's talking about, whereas a History or English Lit. teacher can sometimes get away with being semi-ignorant/misinformed (eg remember when pbone was talking about learning about "Ultimate Communism" in his AP History class or w/e?)
  7. Yeah, education in this country is pretty f'd. This is partially because the conditions you outlined tend to dissuade most of the best and brightest from considering the profession in the first place (I heard somewhere that Education majors have, on average, the lowest high school GPA of all students entering college. That's kinda fucked up). This is then exacerbated by the fact that a lot of "Teacher Education" programs seem to treat teaching like a vocation instead of an intellectual enterprise, and so you wind up with a bunch of people who know "how to teach" but remain largely ignorant when it comes to, like, actual content and shit.

  9. How can an album be "spoiled"?
  10. Are you dudes all familiar with "Smart Girls," Brian Wilson's unreleased rap record? It's srsly the weirdest thing I've ever heard:
  11. Hotbutter Spoontoaster ruled
  12. Uhm, 808s & Heartbreak is shaping up to be way better than The Love Below, which was ultimately little more than one transcendent single surrounded by a bunch of half-baked bullshit. Also, I wish people would stop tagging this thing with the "experimental hip hop" tag, because other than a couple of guest verses from Young Jeezy and Lil Wayne (who barely even raps) there's absolutely nothing "hip hop" about it. It's electro-pop, straight up.
  13. What are you talking about? This rules.
  14. Lil Wayne talks about Sarah Palin:
  15. So all these leaked 808s & Heartbreak tracks are really starting to grow on me. The lyrics are all pretty terrible, but they're fairly easy to ignore since the vocals sort of just blend into the music. Looks like this isn't going to turn out to be the colossal embarrassment I was expecting. Hard-line hip-hop partisans are going to fucking hate it for realz, though.
  16. Kevin Durant deserves so much better
  17. Chelsea Handler is pretty fuckable. The same cannot be said about Greg Gutfeld.
  18. Red Eye was awful
  19. I initially read the title of this thread as "Misplaced Race?" That probably would have been more interesting.
