You're reading it wrong. That was not the plan at all. Kevin Sullivan, who was the booker, was talking with Heyman, and Heyman laid out the program where Giant would defend against Benoit and Benoit would win by countering a chokeslam into the crossface. Benoit would then lose the belt to Gurrero, but not before injuring Guerrero with the crossface. Giant would then quickly get the belt back from Guerrero by taking advantage of the injury. It never happend, and was never the plan, because Sullivan wasn't keen on the idea and Bischoff felt Benoit and Guerrero were too small.
