  1. Given the build up to Survivor Series, Bret dropping the belt before the PPV would have been idiotic. And, for the record, Bret did agree to lose the belt to Shawn, just not in Canada and after Survivor Series, which is a little bit more flexible than outright refusing to job and never budging.
  2. No, but common sense, and past results, make it a pretty safe bet that this angle won't draw a dime. That, and it got zero heat live. And they would be? It was a sleazy and terrible display of desperate booking, from a company going nuts over the lack of a reaction to their baby beyond the Pavlovian "USA" chants. Not to mention it was tasteless to the extreme considering events still going on in the world outside of wrestling, which does exist, believe it or not Because it's a desperate and pathetic attempt at gaining heat, any heat, from playing off of real live events that are still taking place in the real world. Wrestling is two people fighting because one person wants to beat the other up, wants his title, his girl, his collection of John Tesh CD's or whatever it is they are fighting over. Wrestling is meant to be two men fighting over some sort of issue. They are only fighting over nothing if the booking is lazy.
  3. This was the part that I most noticed.
  4. You should read the whole thread. The "they've done this before" defense has already been shot down. It was wrong then, and it was wrong now, and while it won't be the first or last time that WWE do something of very questionable taste, it's still wrong, even if in the world of wrestling it's 'right'.
  5. How about Belfort v Silva from UFC Brazil? Still the most exciting beat down I've ever seen in UFC.
  6. Batista v Cena, because that one is most likely to play to Batista's, and Cena's, strengths. The first two Batista v HHH matches saw Batista sell far too much and the people don't want to see Batista sell for any length of time. They want to see him come in, beat the piss out of someone, sell for maybe a few minutes, then come back in a monsterous rage and spinbuster or Demon Bomb his opponent through the mat for the win. They didn't get that for Batista v HHH I or II, and it showed in the crowd heat. Batista v Cena might not be better for quality, but it'll get better heat and get over more, because Batista will be the Batista people want to see, and Cena will be selling and not wrestling, where his selling is at least better than his wrestling.
  7. Even if the channel has a no spoiler policy, going anywhere that posts wrestling news carries an inherent risk of having things spoiled for you, whether it's something big or not, and common sense should tell you that. I never said anything close to saying that everyone who uses the internet to look or discuss about wrestling information wants things spoiled, so I don't know how you jumped to that conclusion. What I was saying is what I said above just now; going anywhere that posts wrestling news carries inherent risks, risks which common sense should tell you to be aware of. If someone doesn't want Smackdown spoiled, then they will avoid the appropriate threads, but if they still catch something in another thread that spoils it, then they are still somewhat to blame, because they still came on, knowing that things can still get spoiled.
  8. That doesn't stop other people from going and then informing you online. I understand your point but there are times where a person is spoiled without intending to be. I chat in a channel in IRC that has a newsbot and a lot of times Meltzer's headlines will pop up as "Meanie vs JBL on SmackDown" or "SmackDown Spoilers - 2 titles change hands". I hate it when he does things that are unavoidable like that. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That one is still your fault. If you go to a site, channel, chat room, or anywhere that you know posts wrestling news, then if you go there and they post a spoiler and you find out something you didn't want to, then you've only got yourself to blame. You know what the place is like before you go there, and you still went. If you don't want things to be spoiled for you, then don't go to somewhere you know could spoil things.
  9. Wrestling sites aren't spoiling things for you; you're spoiling them for yourself. Just don't go to news sites, or is that too difficult?
  10. Cornette is friends with Jeff, and he has a great deal of respect for Jerry as well, so if he had any involvement with TNA, it would likely depend on the Jarrett's being there.
  11. According to one of the news conferences the London police gave, they think that the bomber on the bus wasn't a suicide bomber, but that his bomb merely went off too soon. The bus was headed for one of the train stations over there, and they feel that that was the intended target, not the bus itself. As for if the bombers turn out to be British Nationals, then immigration will promptly become the hot political issue.
  12. If they don't put Lesnar back in the title picture on his return, I can see them having Batista dropping the belt at Survivor Series, most likely in another rehash of Montreal, and going on to win the 2006 Rumble to get the WM XXII title shot, which he will then win. Of course, that might change if some new babyface catches on by the time of the Rumble, but if nobody does, then this scenario could happen.
  13. So many great points, almost all of which will fly over the heads of the majority of people here. I think most of the people are either dumb or stupid, but that some are also trolling just to get a reaction that they couldn't get with any legitimate post they made. The "Battered Fan Syndrome" analogy was a great one, and it perfectly fits in with the kind of rationalizing we get for some of the most creatively dire and morally reprehensible angles that WWE churns out. Yes, it would do them good to step outside of their wrestling bubble, but that isn't going to happen, because it would mean taking a serious look at themselves and wrestling, and looking at them both as how the outside world sees them, and deep down they know that they would hate what the outside world sees, so they choose to remain inside the bubble of wrestling, and avoid seeing themselves as how the real world does. "Wrestling has always been like this" is sad but true, and it always will be "like this" as long as wrestling fans suffer from "Battered Fan Syndrome", and willingly take the abuse that wrestling inflicts upon them, without wanting, or being able to, do anything to break the cycle.
  14. 1: The guy deserved a tongue lashing for messing the angle up. 2: The guy shouldn't have been slapped. 3: Cornette wasn't fired specifically because he slapped the guy, but it was the final straw, so in that way it did get him fired. 4: People who claim that if Cornette did that to them people would have to "hold them back", either don't have a clue about how wrestling works or don't care for getting fired, because you'd likely get fired for going after anyone in management, no matter what they did. 5: If people don't stop taking shots at each other, and get back to talking properly about the subject at hand, the thread will be closed.
  15. Mark Madden hates Cornette, so I wouldn't take his word about what Cornette allegedly said at face value.
  16. Cornette is by no means a jackass. He just isn't afraid of speaking his mind, and if that means calling someone a dumbfuck, he'll call them a dumbfuck, regardless of whether it's the best move politically to make.
  17. Just Cornette, but I can't imagine Cornette's firing going over well with a lot of people who work in OVW, so who knows what OVW might do in response.

  19. He's coming back under the term of his old contract.
  20. The match is pretty good, but I wouldn't call it a MOTY-level bout. The main things I remember are Shawn's crazy bump over the ringpost, and Shawn very loudly telling Jeff to "do it again", after Jeff rammed his head into the steps.
  21. That should be what they build up to, but not what they start off with.
  22. Let Brock 'prove himself' in the locker room, by carrying bags or something. Anything that could damage his drawing power shouldn't happen anywher near the ring or television.
  23. Vince has long since made back the money he spent on WCW, just on what he got from the tapes alone.
  24. Why exactly does Cornette hate Fertig? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't know that he hates Fertig, but he won't be sending him a christmas card this year. Fertig was dicking around in match in OVW, and Cornette sent word to him, via the ref, that he should stop. Fertig kept it up, and when they got to the back, Cornette 'had words' with Fertig, who bitched about it a lot.
  25. Spike, I'm a little surprised by, as he can bump like crazy and really get monsters over. Hey, Fertig, Jim Cornette says he'll have fries with that.
