  1. You know, I was watching Red Dawn the other day and thinking: thank God Iraq doesn't have high school football!
  2. You must've been OUTRAGED when the president called Obama Neville Chamberlain, Czech.
  3. Whew, almost ruined my plan.
  4. Sure, you have the right to say it. You don't have the legal right to do jack shit about it. It's against your religion? Tough titty. Separation of church and state. And marriage laws belong to the state, not the church. Yeah, except it's not legal in most states, and when put up to public referendum, the voters in the US have almost universally voted against it. But, yeah, I'm sure the will of the "enlightened" minority is supposed to trump the will of the many, right? The majority also supported the war in Iraq at one point. And opposed interracial marriage. And believed in a geocentric universe. And lots of other stupid shit. Saying that a majority if for/against something is not a strong argument either way.
  5. I hope none of my former students ever become cable news talking heads and fuck up like that.
  6. Then this happened (see 2:10):

  10. I don't think it was so much her vote for the war. Progressive activists mobilized behind John Kerry in the last general election and behind Edwards in this primary--both of whom voted for the war. It was the fact that she was unwilling to acknowledge that the vote was a mistake and that she seemed to continue to push a bellicose, republican-lite foreign policy vision.

  12. I'm not sure if a hangover caused this or not, but a couple of months ago I had a really bad hangover and just kind of chilled for most of the day. I felt better by the late afternoon, but that night, I got up to take a piss (for those of you who remember [slayer], I have a problem where I constantly have to get up and pee). I was standing over the toilet, and then the next thing I remember, I woke up in a cold sweat. I felt really uncomfortable, and realized I was lying on the bathroom floor. It took all of my strength to pull myself up, but I finally made it back to bed. My wife said she heard a loud thud and, half-awake, yelled to see if I was okay. I didn't respond and she fell back asleep. Nice of her, huh? Anyway, this was a whole night after I got drunk. Would a bad hangover have caused me to pass out 24 hours after drinking?
  13. Can't wait!

  19. pbone, I am not a science guy (there's a reason it was the lowest score on my ACT), but how do you account for this? http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story...0-30417,00.html

  21. Tangentially related, but I had to put this somewhere. The American Life League has in their sights that great destroyer of life...the birth control pill. http://thepillkills.com/
  22. I should say, I think that's what you were arguing.
  23. But you were arguing that demand was down and that, consequently, prices should have stayed down too. My point is that, while demand may be flat in America, that doesn't necessarily mean prices will stay low, since oil is a global commodity and demand isn't flat globally (as far as I know). Global demand for oil affect prices in America, not just American demand. We should stop arguing, I guess, since we pretty much agree on this.
