  1. PART DEUX Richard is wearing a sweater. OH MY GOD WHY ARE THEY BASTARDIZING MY CHARACTERS! I generally hate watching the first of anything because they tend to be heavy on the exposition and try really hard to get the characters over in one episode that they tend to overdo it. This is the case here with most of the characters. The ones they hold back on are the ones that are better - Miss Patty, Luke, Richard and even Dean are not overbearing in their characters but say enough that you get who they are and you want to see more of them. Richard, in particular, is fucking awesome. He might be one of my all-time faves. Him handing Rory the paper, him falling asleep while Rory is having the big reveal about the Grandparents paying ofr Chilton and how much her mother sacrificed, and him talking about how tall Rory is... he's the fucking man. Michelle is also pretty consistant with who he is today. Dean is sooooo dreamy. Sookie, Lorelai, Rory and Emily go way overboard when they normally wouldn't. Lorelai is really sensitive and goes off to the kitchen and cries after a few cheap shots and generally isn't as snappy as she usually, Emily is uber-bitch, and Rory isn't Rory here. The quirks of the show aren't here either, but I am expecting them soon so I am not to worry. Sookie is annoying with her clumsyness and overthetop nature. I like Sookie for the most part, but here I don't. The exposition is insane. They pretty-much tell you EVERYTHING in this episode to the point of spelling it out and lay the format down for the next 6 seasons (Rory has boy problems, Lorelai and her parents fight). I have to give them credit for maximizing those 2 points and establishing the general themes in the first episode and never letting go for 6 years - I haven't seen a show do that, ever. The camera work is annoying. Way too many close-ups and its just not shot the way I'm used to. The music is also poorly used. Don't get me wrong, the pilot isn't that bad, but it's one of the lesser GG episodes that I've seen, maybe even the worst. But it's the pilot, very few are actually good. Gil Grissom in the pilot of CSI was a fucking goofball. Ok, there's a shot of Rory near the end reacting to Lorelai saying "Behold the healing powers of a bath" that pretty much sums up this episode. What a useless fucking shot. This episode wasn't made 6 years ago, it feels like it was made 60 years ago. Rory, though, is looking tremendous, especially in that blue sweater. Yowzas. How did Rory start off hot, then move down to being just cute in Season 2, and then slowly move back up to hot in Season 4? Edit: Ok, this is by-far the worst episode of GGs that I have ever seen. Luke: "Rory, please put down that cup of coffee, you do not want to grow up and be like your mom" Rory: "Sorry... too late" (awful delivery, btw, but who could blame her with such a hammy line) *Rory Smiles* *Lorelai Smiles* *Luke smirks and shakes his head* The show closes out like the openning theme closes out with the zoom out shot of Lukes diner. And there you have it, the first bad episode of Gilmore Girls that I have ever seen. Damn you Season 1, DAMN YOU TO HELL OR TO SEASON 1 OF GILMORE GIRLS!
  2. So yesterday I bought Gilmore Girls Season 1 on DVD. This means nothing to all of you, but it's the first series I own completely on DVD, and I have been holding back on GGS1 until I finish 2-5. Why? I like the feeling of having something "left" to watch, rather than seeing everything in one fell swoop. I finished off GGS3 in, like, 2 days, and I didn't want to rush it so I held-off getting Season 1. So, join me please, in a escapade I like to call... Rudo Watches Gilmore Girls Season 1 Alrighty, Season 1, Episode 1, aptly titled "Pilot". The show opens with the "There she goes" song and already I am regretting buying season 1. You know what I said before? That's partially true. Half true, even. The other half of the truth is that I was reluctant to watch Season 1 because most first seasons suck and GG's ratings only started to pick up in Season 2, which suggests something bad about S1. It takes a while for a show to find itself, and GG was so good in Season 2 and consistent with their themes and characters that if S1 didn't hold up to the tremendous quality of 2-5, I would feel really sad. Not REALLY, but my perspective of the overall show would be lessened. Anywho, "There she goes" is such a cliched openning to the show and what's great about this show is that you expect one thing and get another. This is exactly what you'd expect. The sound effects in the diner are bad, but it's a pilot so I am forgiving. Luke looks different, younger, and Lorelai looks pretty much the same. The Diner is different, smaller, but that's because its the pilot and was shot in Toronto (Wut Wut! Halla Halla Halla Tdot). Rory comes in and sounds COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. Mindyou she has just said about 5 words and I paused it to write what I am writing right now, but she sounds so much older and not so mousie. And she looks older too. Man, this is weird. To be Cont. Cont (about 2 minutes later) So yeah, I am turned around. This is great. The dude that hits on Lorelai and then hits on Rory when Lorelais back is turned totally represents the average guy watching this show, in other words, wanting to fuck both of them and then being surprised they are mother and daughter, then still wanting to get both of them and backstepping when "she's 16" gets dropped. "You look way to young to be her mother". The Luke I know wouldn't have stood for that. So boo to you Luke Danes.
  3. Tim Sylvia/Jens Pulver Mo Smith/TK Ricco/Tito, if only for the greatest crash ever.
  4. But who is to define "too serious"? There are people, many people, who think any thought given towards pro wrestling is too serious for pro wrestling. Where do the people who actually want to talk about wrestling in a serious fashion go, then, if they can't talk about wrestling seriously on a wrestling messageboard?
  5. Yes, and on a wrestling messageboard, amazingly, some people talk about wrestling in a serious fashion. Maybe if this was, say, a Fly-fishing message board the phrase "it's just wrestling" might be warranted and applicable, but on a site where people make the decision to sign up with the intent of posting about and discussing wrestling, I'd say that serious discussion about wrestling is expected, especially on a messageboard called "thesmartmarks". Yes, if you compare it to everything else that goes on in the world today it's silly and it's nerdy, but its a fucking wrestling messageboard and if people wanted to talk about other more relevant shit and not take wrestling seriously they'd probably be on another board, so what the fuck do you expect?
  6. Here is a concept some people can't seem to grasp or are in extreme denial of: This is a fucking wrestling message board.
  7. whoever's wrong has been educated on why they're wrong and/or shown where holes exist in their argument, while whoever's right looks has strengthened their argument (and maybe convinced others who were on the fence). Of course, this completely ignores the reality where just because something is "taught" doesn't mean something is "learned". There is only so far you can go with someone who just doesn't "get" certain fundamentals of wrestling and would rather glorify in the stupidity of the WWE. There is a disturbing number of anti-intellectualists on this board who take pride in the fact that they enjoy shit like Shelton Benjamins Mama and Gene Snitsky and who believe that thinking about professional wrestling beyond any superficial point would be over-thinking and wind up being too negative. These are people who can't form an objective opinion or look outside their personal enjoyment bubble or realize that there is a hole in their argument to be filled. It's so much easier to write them off as an idiot, and you won't waste time in a "When I tap your foot and say Hello Mr. Thomson you nod your head" kinda way. You can believe that opinions can't be wrong, but opinions can be worthless and people can have bad taste and sometimes opinions deserved to be crapped on.
  8. I don't think Libby is Hurleys ex-shrink, he would have immediately recognized her if she was, but Hurley was in a mental institution and Libby was a psychiatrist, so there's a possibility that they've seen each other before.
  9. How was HBK/Angle "great". Even by TV match standards, it was pretty pedestrian. HBK tries to play mat wrestler early, then starts throwing disinterested chops. Angle goes on offense, then hits some big spots that ultimately don't mean anything. HBK makes his comeback, then Angle hits the anklelock (after working the back the whole match), which HBK sits in for an eternity until the nonsensical/crappy finish. Somebody point out the "greatness" in this match. Pointed.
  10. I thought When Worlds Collide was an ok show, but not Best Show Ever or even in my top 20. But then again, I fucking hate a lot of elements of Lucha Libre. WM X had 2 good matches, but I wouldn't call either of them excellent and two "very good" matches don't make up for a shitty, shitty card, let alone make it one so widely praised. Barely Legals best match was from guys that were from another promotion. The rest of it was either crappy or good in a lowered-standards/amateurish kinda way, which doesn't really say much for it - or says it all. Hostile City Showdown 95 is another show that tends to get lost in the ECW mid 90s "revolutionary" hooplah and 85-90% of it is shit. Malenko/Guerrero was pretty much the only good match on it, though Dreamer/Raven wasn't half-bad. I guess this wasn't a PPV, technically.. Let's round it out and make it a top five... Hmm. I have Dreamslam I and II on tape and have for a few years now and haven't gotten to II yet because I was so underwhelmed and I was so disappointed. I won't bash it like I did the other cards, but in terms of being disappointed by something, this would probably rank up there with WWC. This was pimped as an all-timer and I was like "hey, cool, a Northern Lights Superplex" and that was about it. Again, not a PPV.
  11. Do you think Locke will end up teaming with The Others? I can imagine him going to them and saying he doesn't mean any harm, he just wants to know their story and whatnot - trying to get more information on The Island, because they know it's special and he knows it's special, and he can probably relate more to them than any of the survivors. I could see him turning on Jack and preventing Jack from starting a war, or even costing Jack that war. Why would Locke be loyal to the survivors? Why would he be enemies with The Others? Who is to say which side is light and which side is dark?
  12. I figured a 1.7. Good rating. Id be interested in seeing the breakdown of it.
  13. Fuck yeah! Jack kicked a truck load of ass tonight. They drove it up, dumped it on his driveway, and he kicked it all fucking show. Completely and totally, 100%, badass. Fuck you Eko, Jack is STILL King of the Island! Next to it, LOCKE watching that whole thing go down was amazing - he was sooo observing and thinking things through. Hurley and Charlie chillin on the couch listenin to music, talkin about chicks... GOLDEN. The preview for next week had Hurley and the blonde chick talkin with Hurley saying "have we met before?" (something along those lines), and with her being a psychiatrist, it will certainly be interesting to see how that works out. But other than that, I don't care much for Charlies storyline.
  14. If someone thinks John Cena is a better worker than Samoa Joe, and can give a decent opinion about it... they are not wrong. So if I say you are talking out of your ass and are completely clueless and can give a decent opinion about it...
  15. I think the reason why the Live Sex thing got such good ratings is that people wanted to see what would happen. That's a bit of a duh, but the WWE audience likes it when things are unpredictable and, I don't want to say Fresh because it isn't, but "not stale", and Live Sex had a big "Something is going to happen here" stamped on it and they didn't really know what. I think Kurt Angle winning the title on Smackdown was a pretty big reason why people tuned in to RAW this week because they wanted to see what would happen, since Angle was on Smackdown - would the match go through, who would win? They could probably sustain the rating if they continued to have Edge do some taboo stuff and then transition it into a big program with a relatively refreshed HHH and did the basic program from there.
  16. Sayid would then use that bamboo to wipe away his tears while he cries about how he's dead inside OUCH~!
  17. If the Liberals get rid of the NWSC, then if they ever get removed from office another party could implement a policy that the provinces can't opt out of - ie. abortion.
  18. You DO remember the first thing they did with him was put a metal box around his neck, right? Ignoring their initial blunder, they put him with Evolution and jobbed him out for a good year+. It was only until late 04 that HHH decided that Orton had failed and he needed someone new to feud with and there was Batista, so unless this dude becomes friends with Trips, I don't think the comparison is necessarily valid, unless you expect to see a delayed effort it handling him properly rather than something more immediate. I'm not saying the WWE will botch it either, though odds are they will given their track record, I just don't think Batista is a good example. Oddly enough, this dude is with the same talent agency as one Thea Vidale.
  19. http://www.mininova.org/get/202296
  20. You should. Paris numbering all of the staff at the newspaper was classic Paris.
  21. "Welcome to the SH, BITCH!" Fuck yeah. NO! Why must they mess up Luke and Lorelai?! This is too much. Too damn much.
  22. This fight is supposed to accomplish 2 things for the UFC (from the UFC's perspective). 1. Draw a big buyrate, where current fans and old fans alike will pay to see Royce Gracies return to the octagon. 2. Make Matt Hughes a huge star for beating Royce Gracie They aren't looking for a great match. They are looking for great money. They can stack the undercard with good fights. And Royce will pwnd Hughes. Make him tap like a baby.
  23. My standards are so low for UFC HW, that I was pretty impressed with Silva performance tonight. You gotta realize that when fighting someone who is 6'7 and 265, who also has good jabs and knows how use his reach advantage, it's gonna be hard to stand and trade with him. Every time Silva threw a leg kick, Silva would throw a straight and would connect. That sucks. How do you fight a guy like that? Silva wouldn't play the guard game like he did with Mir, so that's out. Silva connected with some of his punches like Arlovski (who is taller than Silva) did, but Sylvia didn't go down. I think Silva could have commited to those punches a lil more, gotten more power behind them on the step-in, but I'm amazed that he lasted that long considering most of Sylvias fights stay within the first round. Silva could have done more but he did more than I expected of him, and was effective with his wild overhand rights and bodyshots. I'd like to see him back.
  24. That's the stance I'm takin too Snuffbox. Together, our Gracie Markdom shall conquer all the doubters. If he can tap out Ron Van Clief, he can tap out Matt Hughes!
  25. I think Couture/Liddell III is $40 cause it's all special, most of their shows are $35. I think they are doing monthly PPV's now too. Overall a good show. Nothing great, but nothing bad. I enjoyed that HW fight way more than I thought I would. Sylvia has to learn to throw combos that extend beyond 2 punches, because if Arlovski was standing there with Silva putting his hands up like that, the fight would have been over quickly. That said, I'd like to see Silva/Arlovski. Not much of a UFC dream, though, considering both guys' English, Bonnars kimura was sick, though they shouldn't say "expect us to throw down" and not. Post fight interview was great, though. Belfort/Bonnar, make it happen. Goulet's face slid on the mat. BANG~! Shit, Bang vs. GSP would be hot. Leben's post fight was great, "I beat him in one". Hey, so did Lee Murray. Murray vs. Leben would be the greatest fight ever. A wet dream for Dana White. I was disappointed in Jorge, but hey, Leben hits hard. Burkman's good. Damn good. Whose that Gracie feller? "I built this house" !!!! Fuck yeah. Gracie is going to toooool Hughes. B LEE DAT.
