They should do a fight. I think it would be an awesome fight. Battle of the Pitbulls. RRR - All over UFC 96/97 -
Forrest, Cummo, Hughes, & Franklin

It was a repeat. The neurosurgeon probably didn't even test or inspect fighters, or even talk to other doctors about the problems of head trama. He was working from the premise that "If you get hit in the head, it will effect your brain" and "if someone chokes you, it effects your brain", which is true enough (though I imagine the chokes in the UFC have very little effect given that I haven't seen anyone go the Inoue route in a while... well, Baroni maybe, but he doesn't really have much up there in the first place. I think it was a little extreme for the doc to equate it to a stroke), but the problem lies with demonizing fighting for head trauma, and yet saying Football and Boxing are ok (DD said he was a big boxing fan). -

Oh man, I never realized how fucking good Randy Couture was back when he started. His use of knees makes me long for a PRIDE fight (or better yet, UFC allowing them). Has anyone had a better rookie year than Randy Couture did in 1997? -

What if Vitor Belfort moved up in weight? Randy Couture? Chuck Liddell vs. Arlovski, Champion vs. Champion would be sweet. Would size be a factor here? Bringing back Rizzo or Rodriguez (what's the word on Ricco, I heard he turned down a fight with Arlovski - anything behind that?), would they be anything? What about BABALU? How about brining in a K-1 Fighter? Or would Arlovski go the grappling route in that case? -

You make me cry, Lei. So who do you think would be good enough to face AA? Who would you build as a challenger? To me, the only guy who can beat AA is a good wrestler or an excellent striker. Looking at the UFC Heavyweight division... If you want a Top 10 in possibilities: 1. Frank Mir 2. Tim Sylvia 3. Assuerio Silva 4. Brandon Vera 5. Branden Lee Hinkle 6. Marcio "Pe de Pano" Cruz 7. Reshad Evans 8. Keith Jardine 9. Brad Imes 10. Mike Whitehead With an outside chance that Gonzaga gets brought back. -
I've downloaded a bundle of UFC's (11, Ultimate Ultimate 2, 12, 13, 14, and 15) and I almost want to say that UFC 13: Ultimate Force is essential viewing. You get both Randy Coutures debut (fucking awesome performance, better than I remember) and Tito Ortizes debut (which is almost surreal to watch today), and Belfort during his Phenom days. This, of course, compliments the past year+ of UFC history. And you get to see Joe Rogan do post-fight interviews. What's that saying? The more things change...

Fight of the Year Discussion
RavishingRickRudo replied to RavishingRickRudo's topic in Mixed Martial Arts
I think it was. I see that match as the cumulation of so much and, like, every exchange -at least to me- is exciting. But then again, I'm a Fedor mark. I differ from a lot of people in that a match doesn't have to be a war, or even that competitive for it to be a great match. To me, a great enough performance can make for a great match. Fedor's strategy in that fight is sublime. I'm downloading the Bushido Tournament, I'll try to get some of those matches up within the next month. If MMA were judged like Pro Wrestling, Hansen would get considerable thought for Fighter of the Year given the quality of his matches against Uno, Edwards, and Sakurai. Even his match against Imanari was so much fun. Lei, have you seen his August SHOOTO match? Heard anything about it? -
Alright, we're nearing the end of the year, and I think there's no bigger, better, debate than Fight of the Year for 2005. It's my hope that we can get up all the possible nominees, so everyone can judge for themselves and help foster discussion. I have 4 fights on my drive that I will be uploading over the next week. Up first, Uno/Hansen from HEROS. hxxp://s51.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0FHDQRDW791HW2R2FO44I0UM77 So feel free to upload some of 2005's best or reup if necessary, I'll be adding Nog/Tokoro, Cro Cop/Fedor, and Lytle/Healy hopefully sometime this week.

Say what you will about Herrings record, but who have you listed that has a better one? Vovchanchyn and Erikson are fuckin worlds beyond the vast majority of the shmucks that occupy most of these guys' records. Vera looking good against that sort of competition doesn't hold a lot of weight. Put him in a big match scenario agianst world class fighters - the ones where Herring has been in numerous times - and see how he performs. I think Herring is a good enough wrestler to take AA down. The guy is one of the better grappling heavyweights out there, and managed to turn over Fedor but the bell stopped him before he could get anything off. That he gave up positioning doesn't really concern me, given his ability to get out of it. He knows he can get out of it. I think he can get in close with Arlovski and put him against the fence and bring it down from there. Ricco didn't and doesn't like to get hit in the face, whereas Herring takes more risks. That's a key factor when facing Arlovski. Vladdy went for, like, one half-assed takedown attempt on Arlovski. Not much of a test for the pitbull. He has yet to be put against a good wrestler. Just because Heath doesn't get to use elbows in PRIDE doesn't mean he couldn't use them in the UFC. Given Heaths arm strength, I'd say his elbows would be pretty dangerous. He obliterated both Yokoi and Takahashi with some strong strikes (the Takahashi finish included some good GnP, btw). Herring took some sick shots from Fedor and still was in the fight. Arlovski doesn't have near that kind of power, so I can't see him putting down Herring. Arlovskis success comes from accurate punches and I just don't see him being able to tag Herring. They've been feeding Arlovski all strikers. Mark Coleman, Tom Erikson, hell, Mike Van Arsdale, come to mind right away and would be a threat at this point to Arlovski given their wrestling ability. Until they put him up against a wrestler, the guy is untested. Edit: Oh shit, sorry, wrong picture... -
The Rhyno video was, like, fucking awesome. More of that stuff.

Vera?! Oh man, this Herring hating is too much. Herring has faced better competition than any of the UFC heavyweights, bar none. He has beaten bigger, harder fighters than just about every UFC heavyweight out there, and that counts for something. He could crap out better opponents than Vera has faced. Until I see something more from Vera -who I do like and hope to see more of- I don't think its fair to say he'd take Herring. Despite his win over Maty, I still don't think Arlovski could handle a good wrestler, which Herring is. Herring could be very effective in the cage working GnP up against the fence, plus he can still knee to the body and get to work elbows as well. I can easily see Herring taking AA down at some point, pushing him against the fence, and from there the options are plentiful. Standing, Herring hasn't been knocked out. His losses have come from cuts, which is a possibility but I don't think Arlovski can inflict that same sort of damage against him, not with his current style, at least. And I also don't think AA can kick like Cro Cop. Is it an easy win for Heath? Of course not. But Heath would be AA's toughest challenge in the octagon, and is a much better choice than guys like Buentello and Eilers. But then again, UFC is protecting AA like crazy and feeding him strikers and keeping him away from wrestlers, so I doubt we'd see Heath or anyone like Heath against him in some time. Sylvia, in general, is a tough test for anyone given his size and boxing ability. I think he'd be a much tougher test than Arlovski. That Herring took so long to finish Giant Silva cause he wasn't able to deal with the size issue doesn't bode well up against someone like Sylvia. -

Mir would have lots of problems with Heath, so I'd like to know who the 3 HW in the UFC are that could take him. -

Did you NOT see the anagram?!

I agree with the Ana Lucia thing, but it did serve a purpose and got the dude from Gross Point (Drawing a...) Blank in it. The whole baby thing gives clearity to what they were building before. We know why she's so untrusting now, as well. And then there's her relationship with Sayid and the "Dead Inside" bond they share. It will be interesting to see how that plays out. And I dunno if this has been said before but, Ethan Rom is an anagram for "Other Man"

ROH Eddie Tribute Show this Sat.
RavishingRickRudo replied to Lil' Bitch's topic in General Wrestling
There are two ways to look at it. Either ROH was trying to cash in, or they were making a really shitty, hollow, token, gesture to Eddie Guerrero. It's the equivalent of wearing a ribbon. It was pretty much the least they could have done. If that's your standard for a "nice tribute", then, well, you have pretty fuckin low standards (but then again, this IS ROH we're talkin about). -

I hate a lot of you. Jins flashback episode helped make you understand his first episode, which helped you understand Suns episode. When he was on his own, he wasn't willing to compromise certain ideals - letting the kid in the hotel, for example. Letting the hotel owner demean him. Then, to be with Sun, he compromised a lot more than that. This is the reality of their old world. Remember when you first saw Jin? Do you see him _at all_ in the same way now? So go fuck yourself if you think nothing has happened or its meaningless.

I don't think so. Locke doesn't seem like the kind of guy to just storm off guns ablazin. I think, if anything, he'll be the one trying to talk sense into everyone. Bah, I just remembered Locke trying to focus everyone on the threat of the others. Damn, I really liked my "Locke helps the others" theory.

They really can't do anything beyond Season 7, IMO. It's probably for the best.

Here's a question: Is Locke involved with The Others? I don't mean in a "He's an Other", I mean... He spent a lot of time with Ethan. What if Ethan and him got to talking. What if Ethan told him about Walt, and that's why Locke has taken Walt under his wing. Or maybe Locke told Ethan about Walt, and that's why The Others were interested in him. Maybe Locke told the others that the raft was launching and that Walt was on it. Certainly something to consider.
-
All I will say regarding the grand scheme is how can you expect answers when you don't know the entire question?
-
Why are there goddamn polar bears on the island? The Dharma Experiment dealt with several things. It's reasonable to believe given the information that they put the animals there. What happened to Jack's fathers body? Dunno. It's possible we'll discover the answer when they get further into the others. Jacks story isn't finished yet. What is the "monster"? Given what Danielle said, it's the security system. If you don't think this will be explained, you're nuts. This is attached to a greater question, though. Why was the psychic so worried about Claire's baby? This could tie in with Walt and what makes Walt special and also why The Others were interested in Claire. I also imagine it ties in with why they're on the island in the first place. If you're expecting an answer for that any time soon, you're probably watching this show for the wrong reasons. Who was Ethan? I thought this was obvious, especially given the last episode. They tailies had The Others acting like survivors. Ethan was acting like a survivor. The others were making lists and abducting people, isn't it reasonable to assume Ethan was doing the same? Do they have to hold your hand on this one? What happened to the pilot? Was it the monster? The security system? That question ties in with the nature of the island itself. You can't expect them to just give the whole thing away so soon. When Locke said he "saw the eye of the island" (maybe it was heart) when he caught the first boar, what was he talking about? Did he see the monster/security system? So far there's 3 questions revolving around the same issue. Why were there corpses in the caves? This, again, deals with the nature of the island. The current survivors aren't the only people to have crashed there. There's a reason for that. How the hell did a pirate ship get so far in-land? Why have they not gone back to it? Given that it hasn't been very long since they went to the Black Rock, and that the Black Rock doesn't really have anything worth going to, this is kinda silly. The pirate ship deals with the same issue as before. People have crashed here before. Why does nobody feel bad about Arzt's death? Because Arzt wasn't part of the clique. Even Arzt new that. Is Locke smart or lucky? How did he know how to make the drug for Boone? I think that one was dumb. Locke is smart, though. But he's also weak, in some ways. Does Roussea have anything to do with anything? Why have they not gone after her? Cause shes used conveniently, duh. And these are just off the top of my head. Few of these will be answered, ever. But yeah, this episode was great - Ana Lucia is so TOUGH. I think the answers you're wanting are related to the over-all grand super question that they won't be answering for a while: Why are they on the Island? This episode was great, if you gave a damn about the characters. The Ana Lucia stuff sucked (cept for revealing she was pregnant), but even then I liked the stuff with Echo and Jack which directly related to her. And Desmond said he was training for a trip around the world.
