  1. Watching now...the Jake bit is hilarious as he and Gene do a ton of cheesy double entendres about Damian. Sheik just dropped a Rikidozan reference?? How was this guy even a heel given how hilariously silly he was on these TNT shows?
  2. The announcing isn't far down on my list at all, in fact the first thing they need to do is get Cole off of Raw. Put Ross back on it since at least he would force Lawler to up his game again as well. Really, Ross is the only announcer who has gotten much out of Lawler. Given The Undertaker's recent Raw appearance perhaps he would end up back on Raw full time after the draft? Oh and it wouldn't shock me if Christian ended up in the draft as well, hopefully jumping to SD to get involved in the various Edge and Hardys antics. Regarding RVD, if he did ever come back wouldn't he have to be on ECW? As in the show was basically created for him. Or at least Van Dam would have to be there for a while until the next draft could send him to Raw or SD.
  3. Yeah I read that review last night. The movie sounds great and I'm getting more and more excited about it from the various clips that keep popping up. Speaking of Veidt though, the one thing in that review that should give us all pause is that the review mentioned Matthew Goode being mediocre as Adrian Veidt.
  4. Bob, believe me when I say this but being all about defense isn't a formula to win it all in March. U of L is in much the same boat as Memphis, with the two teams being #1 and 2 in defense (according to kenpom.com). Thing is Memphis at least has a top 40 level offense and U of L is 90th in offense. If that game does happen in the tourney, it will be an eyesore. Once the regular season ends round up the teams that are legit contenders and avg. 78+ points a game and one of those teams will be the national champion. I've been reasonably impressed with Missouri this year, but then I liked Mike Anderson's UAB teams as well.
  5. Petey was toast once he did the Steiner wannabe gimmick. A gimmick like that is hard to overcome especially once the real guy definitely kicks his ass. TNA is in a very bizarre position in some ways. I've noted in the past that the old washed up guys in TNA terms are actually fresher than the "TNA Original" guys. The various MEM members aren't really as stale and played out as much younger TNA wrestlers like Eric Young, Abyss, even a few major names like Joe and Styles.
  6. This is the sort of DVD that I might get if the price comes down at some point. The matches are decent enough but not that many classics. Is that Hogan/Andre match on disc 2 the one from the Main Event in Feb. 1988? That wasn't technically a SNME show, but it's good to have for historical purposes. Michaels/Bulldog...the match that made me hate HBK for about 10 years. And considering there wasn't another SNME for 14 years maybe it killed the show as well.
  7. Yeah that Christian comeback on ECW tonight was truly surprising. I'm still trying to figure out why he's on ECW or if he's just on there for a bit and will show up on SD as well. He can't only be on ECW, it makes no sense. His match with Swagger was quite good though, so maybe he can work with these young guys and get them over.
  8. At this point does Rourke even expect to win the Oscar though? I read some quote saying he is assuming Penn will win for Milk. It would look bad somehow though for Rourke to win all these other awards and then somehow he gets screwed out of the Oscar due to these WM rumors.
  9. It didn't shock me to hear about A-Rod since Canseco ranted about the guy a couple years ago, though with all the personal attacks involved it made Canseco seem a bit less credible than when he gave detailed info about guys like McGwire. Checking out his HR stats, his story seems to check out regarding 2001-03. He was a 40 HR a year type player in Seattle, but once he got to Texas he averaged 52 HRs over that 3 year period and also missed only 1 game over that period. I have to wonder about 2007 as well. After some iffy years he was back to 54 HRs.
  10. Ha. No way is Shane going to show up to get killed based on what we've seen the past few weeks. Putting Orton against Shane was quite possibly the worst idea post Rumble they could have done to keep Orton's momentum. As far as Steph turning on Shane to side with Orton....why? If Steph turns heel they would quite literally be running the same "Evil Bitch GM" storyline on both shows, but Steph won't draw near the crazy heat that Vickie does on SD.
  11. Just wondering but was there any reason for colorizing that 1958 NFL game? Did ESPN simply think no one would sit and watch a 50 year old B & W football game?
  12. I'm interested in seeing what Flair will do tonight, but Orton/UT will be by the numbers "Guys running in for a DQ." Also interested in seeing if there is any mention of the Jericho incident on this show tonight.
  13. There will probably be a lawsuit from someone over this incident, but what's interesting is how WWE will handle this on TV. They almost have to mention it with Flair showing up tonight, since Flair had his little run in with that goof a while ago that Edge mentioned in a promo.
  14. I didn't see this PPV since it didn't sound all that good on paper. Main event sounded about like what I figured it would be, tag match sounds pretty decent but not must see, and so on. But the piece of booking I find baffling is Abyss going over Morgan. Morgan just did a heel turn and needed a clean win over Abyss to get going in that role. Abyss is such toast to the point where it actively hurts the guys he goes over.
  15. Push has been mentioned as similar to Heroes, but in some ways I thought it looked like this year's version of Jumper with Evans in the Christensen role and Hounsou in the Samuel Jackson role. The idea of these kids with superpowers being either recruited or hunted is also quite a bit like Harbinger as well.
  16. Well, at least with all these teams going down that loss to UConn won't hurt as long as U of L takes down St. John's tomorrow at MSG. Dare I say it but UCLA might be playing some of the best basketball in the country right now, at least ever since that Washington loss. It's hard to read into that though. Are they really this good or is it just playing at home and catching a team like ND when they are really struggling? Bob, why do I somehow sense a Louisville/Memphis Sweet 16 game this year?
  17. I do know what Fazzle means since I thought the same thing myself, but therein lies the dilemma with a film. The matches in this movie are basically the action scenes of the film in this case, so can they really have crappy (but perhaps more feasible) matches with a washed up Jake Roberts type performer in his 50s? It would suck and wouldn't provide exciting action scenes. The matches have to be action packed.
  18. Unfortunately ROH hasn't come all that close to me, so I have yet to check out their house shows. The TNA show I went to in May 2007 was a terrific house show though, main event was Angle/Christian with Joe/Styles underneath. Judgment Day 2000 with Rock vs. HHH in the Iron Man is the best PPV I've been to though. That was just a top to bottom excellent show. The WWF at the peak of its powers.
  19. 1. Do you think success came too soon in Bigelow's career? Or was he not pushed enough? I'm hazy on this now even though I was watching. He was getting a decent push in the WWF, but then he seemed to just vanish. I would assume he was hurt? It's more of an unfinished run rather than being misused or not pushed enough. 2. In the long run, do you think his feud with Lawrence Taylor helped or hindered (or did nothing at all to) his career? It basically wrecked his mainstream career for years. He almost had to go to ECW and rebuild his hardcore cred with fans, but his Triple Threat run and also stuff like putting over RVD in some great matches won him some new fans. 3. Was Bigelow underutilized in his runs in WWF and WCW? Which of his stints was your favorite? Ugh. It's really a tough question since his later WCW run was mostly dreck, but he was older then and the company was already tanking. His 2nd WWF run involved jobbing to a football player and being buried, so that's out. I guess his first WWF run was decent but too brief. At least he made the last 2 men of the first Survivor Series before Andre put him down. 4. Where does he rank amongst the great superheavyweights of all time? It's hard to really say. He has to be behind guys like Vader who had a bigger push for a sustained period. Maybe if a major promotion had gotten behind Bigelow he would be higher. I think his reliance on high flying moves for a big man might have made him stand out, but also made him harder to push has a vicious badass. 5. Favorite matches, moments, etc. As noted, the first Survivor Series where he got to the finals but lost to Andre. Also in ECW tossing Spike in the crowd and of course the awesome TV title change with RVD that really made RVD a star.
  20. Yeah they had a tremendous roster in that area back then. Much better than the WWF roster of the same time. Of course Vince would later sign all of these guys away from Crockett, but that really didn't happen until 1984-85.
  21. I question the logic of Kozlov being in the EC match. Regardless of his merits they have largely done a nice job building his undefeated streak, but in the Chamber he's going to end up losing. Is that any sort of way to lose a streak, in a match where 5 guys must lose and it won't be focused on at all? They should have just had Truth eliminate him and go to the EC. The match has enough star power as it is and Killings would be a fun addition to do a few spots and bump for others.
  22. Lucky, the thing is this. All of the stuff you mention are commonly felt by most fans, so it's not worth bothering about. But this MCMG angle is baffling even though I know what they are doing and what they're going for. It's laughable to say that Sabin/Shelley are any sort of real allies to the Frontline guys since they never wanted to be in the group at all and only joined because Foley made various threats about firing them. And once again, it's impossible to buy a storyline like this since the other Frontline members will want a shot at Shelley or the MCMG as a team.
  23. To answer: 1. Better as heels or babyfaces? Demolition was good either way actually. There wasn't much difference in the gimmick either way. 2. Do you think they ever really shed the LOD/Road Warriors ripoff label? Oddly enough, as a kid watching wrestling I never even thought of them as being a ripoff at all. The Powers of Pain? They were real similar to the LOD. But Demolition were built nothing like LOD and didn't wrestle a similar style. They just had a vaguely similar Mad Max gimmick. Ironically enough, while fans may have gotten over this, the WWF didn't. Once LOD joined the company Demolition were jobbed out and done by 1991. 3. Similar follow up; Demolition or The Legion of Doom/Road Warriors? Obviously Demolition didn't have as long of a career as a team, but I will take them here. LOD mostly just squashed and no sold people, being of little use in actual matches. It's painful to watch Hawk in that face in peril role. 4. Where would you rank them amongst the great tag teams of their era? Of all time? From 1987-90 they were tremendous, solid champions. All time? I have no idea, but I'd take them over anyone now. 5. Favorite matches, moments, etc. The two SS matches vs. the Harts, the various Brainbusters matches, and of course the Survivor Series 88 double turn with the Powers of Pain. That was a really great match.
  24. Glad others are baffled as to this Machine Guns part of the Frontline angle. Why in the hell should Sabin and Shelley care about any of these guys? Aren't they trying to contend with them for the tag titles and aren't the Frontline guys coming after Shelley's X title? It's moronic to actively help your competition. Pro wrestling is an individual sport (or maybe 2 men in a tag team). It's not this goofy Ryder Cup style deal where guys all band together for some vague common purpose. I fail to see how the MCMG are heels in all of this. They don't want to be bothered with this ragtag group called the Frontline? Fine. Foley and Co. should just leave them alone instead of threatening them with fines or being fired.
  25. Lesnar always seemed like Bob Backlund on steroids. Batista is the guy who initially seemed like he could rip someone's head off. I quite liked Lashley, but he should have never been on ECW at all. He was hitting a nice stride on SD feuding with Booker, Finlay, and Regal and then they pushed him too hard, too fast in ECW and it caused a backlash.
