  1. it's not so much that the mother misquoted what may have happened, moreso that there simply was nothing said by Frankie on the matter or even Morgan Freeman's character. I am just still have a big problem with the totally unrealistic nature of that last fight sequence, especially since that was considered the "big time"
  2. Fuck that guy. Unfortunately I have been afraid that this move has been a long time coming and it was only a matter of time until SOMEONE said it. Ugh.......
  3. Bush Pushes Faith-Based Initiative Agenda Tue Mar 1, 6:52 PM ET Politics - AP By NEDRA PICKLER, Associated Press Writer WASHINGTON - President Bush (news - web sites) on Tuesday dismissed criticism that his plan to steer public money to religious charities might discriminate against people who did not share their beliefs, saying those groups should have an "all drunks are welcome" policy. Speaking to more than 250 religious leaders invited by the White House, Bush vented his frustration that Congress has not approved the idea he first offered soon after he took office to let religious charities spend taxpayer money. In a speech at a Washington hotel, Bush took on what he described as a government culture "unfriendly" to religious groups. "Charitable choice is something I've supported every year, and every year it's got stuck," Bush said. "There's kind of a consistent pattern there." Bypassing Congress, Bush has used executive orders and regulations to give religious organizations equal footing with nonsectarian groups in competing for federal contracts. "Since Congress isn't moving, I will," Bush told the religious leaders, whom he addressed as "leaders in the armies of compassion." He raised the possibility of further executive action, though it was unclear what more Bush could order. Some in the audience wore clerical collars, gold crosses or yarmulkes. Almost all the leaders praised his commitment with applause or shouts of "Amen!" Bush's speech appeared to be designed partly to respond to critics who say he has promoted his initiative for political gain. Last month, David Kuo, former deputy director of the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, charged that the plan is popular with religious leaders who are influential in elections. But Kuo said the White House has not been committed to ending the stalemate in Congress. Bush reported that during his presidency 10 federal agencies have created offices to deal with religious charities. He said the government distributed about $2 billion in grants during the last budget year to help religious programs for the needy. He said religious groups got 10 percent of the federal grants that they are eligible to apply for and indicated he wanted that level to rise. "Ten percent isn't perfect," Bush said. "Ten percent is progress." Jim Towey, who directs the initiative for Bush, said the president is not setting a quota. "His goal is fairness, where the focus of the grants process is on results, and not religion," Towey said. Bush, who often talks about how his Methodist faith helped him stop drinking, referred to his own experience when he sought to dismiss critics who contend his plan could promote discrimination. "If you're the Methodist church and you sponsor an alcohol treatment center, they can't say only Methodists, only Methodists who drink too much can come to our program," Bush said. "All drunks are welcome, is what the sign ought to say." Bush says the charities are effective because of the shared values and religious identity of their volunteers and employees. Critics take issue with his insistence that taxpayer-funded groups have the right to hire and fire based on religion. "We're not talking about, `Is God good?' We're talking about discrimination," said Rep. Bobby Scott (news, bio, voting record), D-Va. Scott said it is a matter of civil rights that employers not be able to consider religion, just as they should not be able to take into account someone's race or gender. The House planned to consider a bill on Wednesday that would allow religious groups to consider religion in employment. With House passage is expected, the prospects are less certain in the Senate.
  4. I have no problem buying an album if I enjoy the majority of songs on there. I am just overall dissatisfied with modern music in general, that I am hardly buying or downloading anything from current acts.
  5. No one suggested we would need more troops to "topple Saddam" however the aftermath, and what we are seeing NOW, is what brought up discussions of needing more ground troops.
  6. Well not only that, but they are inconsistent about what is "obscene" and/or "indecent" No rational thinking person can think a bare breast is obscene, I don't care what time of the day it is shown, and especially in the manner it was shown at the superbowl, for a split second to where if you blink, you missed it. Also their willingness to bow down to a small number of complainers who send 40 complaints each to make it look like a relevent movement, is quite troublesome.
  7. For that that do use itunes and other similar services, how does it work, is it like you are choosing from a pre-selected setlist that itunes decides on, because I mean what if you are into other types of music besides what is played on the radio. Could I purchase an itunes subscription and get a Suffocation mp3, or a BB King mp3 or would I be stuck with choosing from a slickly selected list of radio-play songs?
  8. My personal belief is that you play the movie uncut, just with commercials since networks have to pay bills, and you throw up the viewer discretion message after the commercial breaks to tell the viewer what the movie contains.
  9. Hillary Swank - Boys Don't Cry Leslie Nielson - Naked Gun(s) Jennifer Grey - Dirty Dancing Edward Herrman - The Lost Boys( whenever I see him in anything, the first though that always comes to my mind is "holy shit, it's the head vampire) Mark Walberg - Boogie Nights Chow Yun Fat - Various Woo movies, I mean come on, he is basically the same character every time. Linda Blair - The Exorcist Kane Hodder - Friday the 13th series Bruce Campbell - Ash/Evil Dead
  10. Yeah that pretty much sums up my feeling on that fight. I mean, I could understand if the ONLY cheapshot that was thrown for the entire fight was that one after the bell, but I mean, first she threw Maggie down, then she elbowed her a couple times, if that isn't enough, she walks over to Maggie while she is down, and hits her while on the mat, which any day of the week would be an automatic DQ right there, and THEN we get the shot that caused paralysis. I mean I didn't think it was realistic that the fight even should have made it that far, ESPECIALLY considering this was a fighter KNOWN FOR BEING DIRTY, supposedly. IMO, it would have been more effective had they re-shot the fight with no cheapshots besides the one after the bell that caused Maggie to fall on the stool. EDIT: Oh and to add to it..... when Maggie's mom came to visit in the hospital, and asked her mom if she saw the fight, her mom said "you know how I feel about that stuff" and said that the news said Maggie had lost the fight. Now, I don't see how in the world it is possible that she lost the fight, considering she was barely ever hit unless it was an elbow, after the ball, or after she was thrown to the mat. I mean wouldn't the news have commented about the aftermath of the fight and such, as far as that other boxer being banned for life etc......?
  11. I agree, which is why I personally felt Hotel Rwanda was a much more POWERFUL film in that it stayed with you.
  12. Dangerous_A just called me at work to inform me that the Episode III trailer is officially debuting sometime during the March 10th episode of The O.C. Well looks like I have to sit through my first ever episode of the O.C. Color me depressed. Of course like usual, the internet should have the trailer up and running prior to this.
  13. The A's play down in Arizona for the majority of their spring training games, but usually at the end they play the Giants in the annual Bay Bridge series, and in the last two seasons they have played their top Triple A team the Sacramento Rivercats here in Sac. If they do that again this season I am definately going.
  14. You are right, but if it truly was a "wardrobe malfunction" then it was an accident, and not planned, and I am willing to bet no one remebered or cared enough to let it distract themself from the rest of the game. I do however agree that it was inappropriate for it to take place at the superbowl, but the argument being made is that a naked breast was "indecent" thus garnering a fine, and that is what I have an issue with, when at the same time Saving Private Ryan can be aired uncut during primetime.
  15. Oh yeah I forgot to add this the other night(I was tired) I felt that that foreign "dirty" fighter that ended up paralysing Maggie, was a little on the unrealistic side. I mean I have never seen any fighter ever in life that is THAT DIRTY, and I watch a lot of boxing. Also, she would have been DQ'd immediately after that cheap hit when Maggie was down, the one that busted her eye open. I didn't mind that actual cheap shot that sent her down and to hit the stool, however the fight would have been over long before that even took place. I really enjoyed this movie, but I would have given Best Picture to Hotel Rwanda.
  16. I don't even understand why Saving Private Ryan is an "important film" Sure the opening Normandy beach scene is probably as accurate a depiction you can get, but, besides that I didn't think it was anything special. I think the point of this is the hypocritical nature of not only the FCC, but the MPAA in how it rates movies, not always based on content, but who is directing the film, and how a naked breast somehow trumps a guy walking aroung with his guts spilling out. I am sorry, but I'd rather have my kind flipping around tv and see a pair of breasts on accident, then people getting their faces shot off, and limbs blown off.
  17. I finally saw it tonight and I thought it was great. My only criticism, is that I felt that the scenes with Swank's redneck family didn't even need to be there. I mean for starters we didn't get much if any backstory on why the mom was the bitch that she was, so it kind of just felt like her family was just put on screen to make us feel even more sorry for her. I would have been perfectly happy if all we ever knew about her family is what we heard in from Morgan Freeman's narration about Maggie knowing she came from trash and all........
  18. The security guard tackled the sign, lol.
  19. That would be golden, I'm in. The best though would be to find another board that is at least somewhat as active as this board......I mean this Matt Hardy thing is amusing and all, but is small fish compared to the potential for hilarity that more active boards would provide.
  20. the Bob Holly thing originated from that board. Sass's ringrats thing didn't. Ok I added the OMEGA story to the thread....... You're trying way too hard, though. Posting the Bob Holly story killed your credibility. Like I am there to be credible. I just enjoy these people refusal to believe Lita & Matt are done and the fact that Lita is basically a ring rat earning a paycheck.
  21. the Bob Holly thing originated from that board. Sass's ringrats thing didn't. Ok I added the OMEGA story to the thread.......
  22. Ok, I posted that fake Bob Holly thing on the board. Hopefully it gets some good replies before it ends up getting deleted!!!
  23. I thought that is where Sass pulled it from.......if not, I will be glad to post it on that board.
  24. LOL. It should read, "Bisexual Pride; because MTV said so"
  25. I am excited for baseball season, even though it is very likely the A's will miss the post season. I am very interested to see if the new young talent will show early signs of being the next Big three, rather then the busts of the mid-90's (Van Poppel, Karsay, Darling)....Also, watching Bobby Crosby develop further should be good.
