and that's why you'll always be a randomguy Because I'm an asshole, or not enough of an asshole? As far as flopping and such, what annoys me is even the announcers constantly say shit like "he sold that well!" Can't one of them rant about how real men don't flop or something? The ex-coaches and ex-players are the worst, every time a guy flops they congratulate him on his fine performance. The NBA has a real problem with lack of balls. Everyone has to sell that the NBA is awesome, even when it's stupid.

When the Lakers were up by 23 or so I was going to be an asshole and post that it didn't matter because the score would be tied with 5 minutes to go.

Stern outright saying "fix the game" seems improbably. On the other hand "I noticed you guys weren't calling many fouls on the Kings, and gee it sure would be nice if the series went to 7" is pretty believable.

MMA Comments that Don't Warrant a Thread

Comeback makes sense if the guy was good but got injured or something. It's not good when the guy is just mediocre. The problem with the comeback concept is that most of the guys are too old to get significantly better, you are catching them towards the end of their careers. Young mediocre guys can improve, old mediocre guys just get worse. -

Right now I'm watching some MMA thing on BET. Ok, I changed the channel. It appeared to be mediocre fighters teamed up with rappers or something. -
Wiman fight was very entertaining, some great wrestling. Especially when the guy had him from behind and he did the front-flip. (Don't know the name of what he did, my wrestling buddy did though and was very impressed) Right before the last exchange the opponent looked injured, IIRC Wiman kicked him off and the guy went flying way back, I kind of wonder if Wiman kicking him off before standing up hurt him. Swick is a smaller Tim Sylvia. That level of boring and same pawing style. Hughes looked bad. His shots were slow and weak, every time he shot in he either got stuffed or got a leg in the face. On top he did nothing and on the bottom he looked terrible. It didn't look like the flying knee caught him square, as he fell he looked alert but just didn't defend. It was total domination. Bisping looked good. Guy has always had great technique in standup, to me the questions are ground game and power. He's aggressive without being a brawler.

On the basis of the fights themselves the show was pretty good. The problem was that one fight had a chick who didn't make weight and a stoppage that was not explained very well, followed by two fights where the stoppages didn't really make sense. I missed the first part so I missed the dancing strippers.

Bullshit stop, Thompson looked ok and was winning the fight. I don't know anything about Slice so I can't say he was exposed, but he got stuck in a psuedo-crucifix multiple times and he didn't appear to be any stronger physically than Thompson. (Although he obviously had great punching power)

I have Lords of Thunder. It rules.

I didn't realize this was on again. Seems like an odd time to start a new season.

I think I remember Giambi bunting to third base one time at least.

Yeah that last play was horrible. Pass the ball?

The Yankees are falling apart. The team is almost entirely old guys or near-rookies. Way too many guys who are 1B/DH types, and every pitcher is either at the start or the end of their career. They don't need any more veterans, what they need are some middle-of-the-road middle-aged guys who can just pitch a competitive game. Not great and not even good, just competitive.

Great pitching on both sides two games in a row. I feel a little sorry for the Jays.

The more I think about what I saw the more I think Shaq was a huge problem. On defense you have two guys (Shaq and Stoudamire) who can't defend on the ball and mostly just hang around the basket. The main reason Shaq gets rebounds is because he just camps out in the paint. Then on offense you have two players that are only effective withing 8 feet of the basket. The defense can collapse and Nash driving doesn't work, it's too crowded. When Nash drives and both Shaq and Stoudamire are hanging around the basket that leaves only two guys anywhere on the perimeter. Shaq is also good for a bunch of what are effectively turnovers a game thanks to hack-a-Shaq. With Marion you had a good defender who could spread the floor. As far as Shaq covering Duncan, he did an ok job when Duncan tried to post up near the basket but when he stepped out to the 12 foot range Shaq was lost.

Free throws count as much as anything else. All you are saying here is that the Suns played as well against the Spurs except in the critical areas they didn't. Well yeah. No, it's like saying Team A beat Team B because they beat them on the floor. Free throws are part of real basketball. This isn't And1. What next, if the Suns get outshot at the 3-point line are you going to claim that isn't "real basketball" either?
-
Terrible end. Nash gets picked, Nash bounces the ball off of Amare's shins, pass thrown away, Duncan trips over his own foot...bleah.
-
Shaq goes to the bench and the Suns make a run. Comes back in and the Spurs make a run.
-
Yeah that was bad. The second hit was a little off-the-hands blooper and the last hit could have been a play at the plate if not for the bobble.
-
Shaq sucks. The fact that he can't hit a free throw basically means every time he's fouled it's a turnover. In addition his clumsy hands have turned the ball over multiple times. He's basically worth 8-10 extra possessions for the other team.

That was one of the best individual late-game performances I've ever seen. Joe Johnson was unreal. They should have quadruple-teamed him or something. At some points he had 3 guys on him and still scored.

I have a few different butterfly knives. That's it. I used to be really good with them but not so much any more.

Devil Rays swept the Red Sox. Bravo.
-
Neither of them had any real skill on the ground. It was the kind of fight some people consider exciting because there were lots of reversals and mayhem but it's only because neither had much competence. Everything was just really sloppy.

That was an ugly ugly fight.
