Both fighters are much better than the last fight. But the tide really turned in BJ/GSP 1 when BJ gassed. BJ hasn't gassed in awhile... I feel optimistic that he can take GSP now but again, totally different fight now. They're both skilled it enough that I could see the fight ending 1 of 15 different ways. -

That's a bit of an upset there... Ford was originally supposed to fight Drew Fickett, if I remember correctly. Yeah, Ford will end up somewhere decent in 2009 I think. Oh yeah and this: It's on. -

Tonight's edition of Inside MMA w/ Bas and Kenny in Osaka is worth tracking down for the segment with Urijah Faber and Joe Benevides alone but they also have a lot of other great interview including Tom Atencio, Big Timmay and others. Probably one of the best episodes yet. And I was laughing my ass off at how sweaty and disheveled Kenny Rice looked during the signoff. The guy is something else... I don't even know how to describe it. -
Third result would be the same as the first two.

I thought Mark Cuban had no chance of actually owning the Cubs but I just read that he made the highest offer ($1.3B). Why wouldn't he have a chance to own the team? Or does he?

Yes and it's transmitted through blood which means no one will ever sign to fight him. -

I'd imagine that Aleks Emeliananko's career is now just about over. -
Holy shit... this is in two days. I just realized that five seconds ago. We need a thread for this and we welcome our casual MMA fans like Marvinisalunatic and Black Lushus. Here's the card... MAIN CARD (CBS) Champ Robbie Lawler vs. Scott Smith (for EliteXC middleweight title) Jake Shields vs. Nick Thompson (for EliteXC welterweight title) Thomas Denny vs. Nick Diaz Shayna Baszler vs. Cristiane Cyborg Jeremy Freitag vs. Anthony Ruiz (swing bout) MAIN CARD (SHOWTIME) Justin Eilers vs. Antonio Silva (for EliteXC heavyweight title) Brian Caraway vs. Wilson Reis Rafael "Feijao" Cavalcante vs. Travis Galbraith I don't have showtime so I'm going to have to hunt down a stream for that because I want to see Silva and Feijao fight. Feijao could make some serious waves at 205. As for the main card...well, Nick Diaz had better look impressive. He's looked like shit his past few times out and he's fighting a journeyman at best. He really can't afford a bad performance here. The title fights are what they are. Shields should beat Thompson but he's no joke. He's given Eddie Alvarez his only professional loss and he's not a bad fighter. I also think that with a better gameplan Lawler should easily dispatch Smith.

This is next week and the WEC has a growing fanbase on this very board so I think we'll have a thread for every WEC card from now on. Here's the lineup. MAIN CARD Champ Carlos Condit vs. Hiromitsu Miura -- for welterweight title Champ Brian Stann vs. Steve Cantwell -- for light heavyweight title Champ Jamie Varner vs. Marcus Hicks -- for lightweight title Brian Bowles vs. Damacio Page Josh Grispi vs. Micah Miller PRELIMINARY CARD Brock Larson vs. Carlo Prater Blas Avena vs. Dave Terrel Cub Swanson vs. Hiroyuki Takaya Todd Moore VS. Shane Roller Mike Budnik vs. Greg McIntyre Scott Jorgensen vs. Kenji Osawa I'm not familiar with Miura, I have to be honest. So I have no idea about that fight. Condit is legit, though, so I always look forward to watching him fight. Brian Stann has already knocked out Steve Cantwell so I think they are giving their new posterboy (behind Urijah of course) an easy first title defense. The fight I'm looking forward to the most is Varner vs. Hicks. Hicks is really friggin' good and if Varner brings his A game that could be a war. Bowles/Page should be a spectacular 135 pound war as well. Obviously WEC 36 is the stacked money card but this isn't too shabby either.

Well, I'm interested to see Franklin/Hamill because I don't know... Matt can easily win that fight. Hell, all three of the big names under the main event are vulnerable. Dan Henderson is, and should be, a mega-favorite over Palhares but he can get caught in a sub. I'd still favor Dan. Also, Karo has flat out admitted that he doesn't train as hard as he should...well, his talent level is not that much greater than Yoshida to get away with that, so if he doesn't come in ready to fight then he could lose as well. I still think the main event is clear cut win for Liddell though, but it wouldn't be the biggest upset of all time.

Following a great forums.thesmartmarks.com tradition of Mole and the shadows, I thought this might be a good idea for a thread. Anything you come across on the internets that's of questionable validity, bring it here and we'll discuss if it's real or if someone very skilled made it on their computer. My first submission. My evaluation: I hope that this is fake, but I can't really see any evidence as to how/why. This is some terrifying shit.

That would please me greatly. If Fedor wants to fight in October - Randy's not going to be legally able... so it's going to be one of the other two. -
"It's my genetics" is the biggest copout of all time for an obese person. Yeah - your genetics left you "PRONE" (key fucking word) to being obese. If you have those genes then you don't even have to pig out to put on the pounds so you have two choices 1) fuck it - I'll eat like everyone with good genetics does and just cry about it later or 2) eat right and work out every day of your life so that it's not a diet but a lifestyle and look just as good if not better than other people... because genetics for adding fat usually include the added benefit of packing on lean mass very easily. Unless you have a thyroid condition there's really no excuse for being a deuce and a half that doesn't include the word lazy.

Why are all you outsiders going to Scranton lately? I grew up there but meh... I can take it or leave it.

"I'm very particular about building codes!" I voted for AD.

It's estimated that this will be the first non-UFC PPV in history to do over 100,000 buys. -
The MMA Folder Presents: Half-Year Poll for 2008
Mik replied to Lord of The Curry's topic in Mixed Martial Arts
Fight of The Year: Miguel Torres/Yoshiro Maeda gets the slight nod for me over Eddie Alvarez/Joachim Hansen. Honorable Mention: Faber vs. Pulver Fighter of The Year: Eddie Alvarez Honorable Mention: Lyoto Machida. Two impressive wins and everybody is ducking him. Show of The Year: DREAM 3 was my instant gut instinct. Hansen/Alvarez was a FOTY and just about every fight on that card was better than average. Mayhem and Manhoef both had great entrances and dominant performances and Uno pulled off a great upset in the main event. Honorable Mention: WEC: Faber vs. Pulver: with two fight of the year candidates. Best UFC was probably 84. Best KO: Maybe because it's fresh in my mind but Rory Markham's is pretty impressive. Best Submission: For personal reasons, Demain Maia's inverted triangle/elbow carving of the white trash superstar at UFC 83. Honorable Mention: Aokiplata: DREAM4 Best Promo: BJ Penn: "Sean Sherk, you're dead." Fighter to Watch: Jake Rosholt, Jacare Weight Class of The Year: UFC LHW division Entrance of the Year: Akiyama: DREAM5. We can call the fight on this category right now. It's not getting topped. -
Eddie Alvarez.
-
I am going to take Jacare.

That's a good point. The Marlins have some tough series coming up as well with the Cubs and the Mets. I think this is a critical time for them.
-
Well, the Marlins had a combined 1 hitter tonight, so let the Phils and Mets beat down each other.
-
Arctic Monkeys aren't as bad as Czech makes them out to be. "Flourescent Adolescent" and "Bigger Boys and Stolen Sweethearts" are great songs.
-
UNC going undefeated this year... somewhat likely or very likely? Roy thought everyone was leaving and brought in 3 very talented freshmen and then EVERYONE came back except Quentin Thomas (who sucks anyway)... the talent is off the charts.

Fuck Pitchfork on this one. They are just cowtailing to popular opinion because it's one thing to not like the album. In fact, it's completely understandable... it's not for everyone. But you can't give a great review to Wizard of Ahhs and then shit all over Partie Tramautic because they are practically the same fucking thing. In fact, 4 of the 10 songs on the full length overlap with the EP and the other six are in the same exact style. If you're going to completely reverse your position on two albums that are nearly identical then you need to do better than a picture of two dogs.
