    The College Football Thread 11/25 - 11/29

That's the main thing that bothers me about the BCS. You can be the New York Giants and afford to lose 2-3 more games the rest of this season. You can be North Carolina basketball and afford to have 5-6 losses. Hell, even a high school football team (at least in my state) can lose 3 games and still make the playoffs. But in Division I-A football*, a team like Texas (for example) can lose only one close game on the road against a top-10 team and potentially have zero shot of competing for the national title. The regular season and the playoffs are supposed to be two different things; no other sport at any level has this type of system. Every other sport has some type of playoff or tournament to determine their champions. *On another note, why the hell do they have this FBS and FCS junk anyways?

    NFL Week 13

    1. How do you feel about the Dallas/Detroit tradition? How would you change it, if at all? I don't really care either way. Of course I'd like to see the Lions keep their game since it's basically all they've got, but at some point the outcries will become too great and they'll get that taken away too. I do agree with making the Cowboys and Lions playing rivalry teams if they stay on. 2. Are there ten QBs in the league -right now- that you would take over Matt Ryan? If so, who? If not, does that blow your mind? Where do you rate him? No. I'd have Ryan somewhere in that 8-10 range-kinda depends on who's healthy or not. It's not shocking to me that he's already in the top 10, he has a good support system around him and there aren't a lot of great QB's in the NFL these days. 3. Who is the best player in the AFC west? Right now, I'll go with Rivers. Leads the NFL in passer rating with LT having a down year and not having any elite receivers (not counting Gates). 4. Where does Donovan McNabb play next season? I'll say Minnesota. I would say Chicago but they seem to be fine with Orton at the moment. 5. Why does Seattle suck so bad? Besides Hasselbeck and numerous WR's getting hurt, I don't know. The lame-duck coaching situtaion doesn't help, but I thought they'd still be good enough. The run game has been respectable with Morris and Jones averaging 5.2 and 4.5 YPC respectively. Maybe I'm overrating their talent, but I thought Seattle had quite a few talented players on defense. Guess not.

    NFL Week 13

Well it's *cough, cough, WEEK 13* so I don't think the Ravens should have a problem there. I'm just disappointed that the Titans couldn't hold up their end of the bargain for the Thanksgiving game at Detroit. Oh well, it'll just be another boring slaughter as fans all over the country lobby for the Lions to have their T-Day rights revoked (which I can't blame them for).

Substitute Cena/Jericho for Obama/McCain and you've got a winner right there.

I knew it was too good to be true for Detroit. The Culpepper experiment looks to be dead on arrival.

In the real barnburner of the day, Abilene Christian beat West Texas A&M in a D-II playoff game by a score of 93-68.

I need a miracle to win this matchup and go to a bowl game...not gonna happen.

Somehow Michigan kept it close through a half, but it ended up the way it was supposed to in the end. I still don't know how the defense got this bad, but I hope people who were watching can now see what I was talking about in terms of UM having little offensive talent (especially at QB). At this point, I've just become numb to how this season has played out, just gotta wait 'til next year.

I need a mulligan on that Indiana/Purdue game...Jesus Christ. Usually I go for the home team in these situations so I don't know what the hell I was thinking there (forgot the Tiller factor too).

    Turducken

I had it a year or two ago, pretty good from what I remember. No idea how to cook it though.

    Fashion

What's even more ridiculous is some chick wearing ugg boots with a mini-skirt in 80-degree weather. Or worse, when I was in high school (Catholic school mind you), girls would wear uggs and skirts with no leggings/tights in the middle of winter in Michigan. It was usually the slutty ones who did this.

    College Basketball: November '08

Decent effort by Michigan tonight. Duke didn't look overly impressive, but they were good enough. It'll be nice when Lucas-Perry can play for UM next semester, because they need another shooter badly.

Looks like the Michigan basketball team plans to make up for the football team's dismal season. HUGE win over UCLA, we'll see how they fare against Duke (who they get to play twice now). I'm sure UCLA was overrated at #4, but this is still a big-time win for the Wolverines.

Not gonna happen. Everything else in that scenario seems plausible, but I don't see how FSU's gonna beat Florida. They do have a pretty good defense, but as Florida showed last week, they'll hang 50 on a good D anyways. I'd love it if that happened though.

    NFL Week 11

Detroit gave it a good go for awhile but it looks like the drive to 0-16 will continue. Wow, that was an awful throw by Rosenfels there. Colts survive again.

Ole Miss isn't THAT bad, sure Florida shouldn't have lost to them at home but saying they're putrid is a little strong. Florida does look like the best team at the moment but I agree that they shouldn't be getting 1st-place votes until they beat 'Bama. Really doesn't matter that much though.

The fact that Zales changed the music in that one commercial (you know, the one where the young couple walks past the old couple) to that gay-ass "Stand By Me" bullshit.

Apparently some FSU player pulled a Gramatica by messing up his knee while doing that stupid celebration that everyone does where two players jump in the air and touch backs. EDIT: Wow, that's a hell of a run-on sentence there...sorry.

So glad I didn't go to the Michigan game today. Rough weather, first loss at home to Northwestern since '95, and a record 8 losses this season (including a record for home losses with 5) for the Wolverines. I know Michigan wasn't expected to do much this season, but this is still much worse than anyone thought it would be.
